Hello,

This not really a complaint, My turbo started to shudder when I was backing up and when I put it drive it would shudder in 1st, 2nd and a little in 3rd. The car has 14k miles. I brought to the dealer and it turns out that the transfer case has gone out. The dealer was great.
We are awaiting new cv joints that Porsche recommended to be replaced also.

The car has been a great car, this is more of a heads up to all on this forum.

Heard back from the dealer yesterday. The answer from Porsche was they will not provide any assistance which was no surprise. I read in other sections the forum about using the old servo which sounds like a viable option. Thanks for the advice, I’ll talk with my Indy on reusing the servo.

Spoke with my indy about reusing the old servo. He was very cautions with his answer finally landing on I'll do what you request but I will not warranty the work if there turns out to be an issue with the transfer case. He also said he's never done one before and encouraged me to speak with other indys in that they may have already performed this work indicating he would be willing to pass on the job if I found someone else. In all the years I've used this shop he has always treated me well and I have no reason not to take his advice. More to come...

Decided to trade it in. The dealer is at 23,500 while I shop for another Macan. Tax benefits plus if one considers not sinking 6k into the new xfer case thru the dealership, I can apply that to the purchase of the new Macan. That warrants moving it on in my feeble mind. Now to find that CPO GTS!

I think is obvious that if a transfer case is at or over 100K miles with no issues, you can consider that a reliable transfer case. What happens after? That is a question. What you are describing is a case of “infant mortality” of these components, and that holds true for a lot of mechanical systems. There are mechanical systems that behave like that, where probability of failure is up at the beginning, then it goes down, and only start raising again at old age with component degradation. Is what we call the bathtub curve. So, your statement is most likely true.

I believe some of the root cause that were found is either water or humidity ingestion, which accelerated that degradation in many instances. Of course, degradation is influenced by maintenance regime. So, if your transfer case doesn’t fail immediately (infant mortality), then a good maintenance regime (changing oil frequently and making sure you have a good vent that excludes humidity from internal components) is going to almost guarantee a longer life.

My transfer case if 146K miles. I observe a strict maintenance regime (oil change every 20K miles) and changing vent plug frequently.

I have a 2015 turbo with 90,000 miles and I am having symptoms of transfer case issue. It does not make sense to pay >$5k to repair for a vehicle worth $15-19k, so I am shopping for some replacement options. What are the consequences of continuing to drive the car without repairing the transfer case? Is this dangerous for me? Am I risking catastrophic damage to the car which would make it a roller/not worth anything in trade in?

Well to update I used the new electronic box and got it recoded at Porsche for $300.

RE driving around with a dying/broken transfer case: in theory it won't hurt anything else if you ignore it, but an alternative to consider is just unplugging the control unit to have a full-tine RWD macan. Not something I would do in the snowbelt, but a great option if you're in the southwest.

My last fluid changes are as follows (not using Motul anymore):

PDK clutch side: LiquiMoly 8100
PDK gearbox side: Redline MTL
Transfer Case: Redline MT-LV
Differential (Non-PTV): LiquiMoly (can’t remember specific one…)

Also switch engine oil to LiquiMoly.

All with good results. Especially the LM 8100 for the PDK is really good.

Hi everyone I'm new on this forum .Just git a question about my 2015 porsche macan turbo .the transfer case has a problem with it .car is a porsche now in Sydney. Car has only been driven 72500 klms .they told me that the gearbox warranty has expired in 2022 .what can I do ? Do I have to pay to get it fixed? Or should they cover it for me .any help on this issue any one ?

Porsche extended the warranty for the 95B.1 transfer cases to seven (7) years.

Since your Macan is a 2015, that's why the statement that the warranty ended in 2022 was made.

Since it's now 2025, it would appear this transfer case is about three (3) years out of warranty.

It is highly doubtful the manufacturer is going to offer coverage - despite the relatively low number of miles on the unit.

A lower cost option has been presented above. If this resolves the issue, that would be a most favorable outcome.

Good luck!
