Hello,

This not really a complaint, My turbo started to shudder when I was backing up and when I put it drive it would shudder in 1st, 2nd and a little in 3rd. The car has 14k miles. I brought to the dealer and it turns out that the transfer case has gone out. The dealer was great.
We are awaiting new cv joints that Porsche recommended to be replaced also.

The car has been a great car, this is more of a heads up to all on this forum.

I had the TC on my wife's 18 Macan GTS replaced under warranty with p/n 95B341010LX in Feb 2023. Now she is experiencing low speed stuttering again unfortunately. Looks like this is the latest updated reman p/n but when checking online it looks like LX was replaced by PX. Taking it back to the dealer to check it out. They also did the timing chain cover bolts under my Fidelity warranty but I can still smell oil and my Indy said there was oil all over the front of the engine.

5 years old Macan Turbo, has been great until last year. Oil leak and lots of engine camshaft errors.

Finally Porsche dealership fixed the two issues above, had the infamous cracked bolts and timing chain oil leak, and they replaced a bunch of selnoid valves. Big job.

After this car stopped giving the engine check light for the camshaft errors, but started being very rough, jerky, and makes lots of noises when driven at very slow speeds after a stop sign for example. Problem mainly happens when car is cold or first 30 mins of use.

Took it again to Porsche and they could not replicate the problem. Told me give it time the car computers need to relearn things after that major job. I’m not so sure.
They told me they don’t think it’s the other common problem of Transfer Case. Seems reasonable from wha to read about it.

Video shows the jerkiness and loud bangs (2 of them each has 2 bangs) around second 5. Each bang comes with a jolt in the car forward.

Any help or suggestions welcomed! Thank you!

Previous owner of the 2016 Turbo. This sure are symptoms of the Transfer Case.
There is a simple procedure of how to determine if that is the issue by going into the OFF ROAD mode and turning your wheel sharply to one side and then the other when going forward then backwards. If you feel like you are going over rocks that is the expected behavior but if it jolts and makes lots of thumps and sounds, then you got a Transfer Case problem and it has to be replaced. There should be tons of info on the forum related to the Transfer Case. Ours was replaced at 30K miles as we could not stand the jolts and thumps at low speeds speed up or slow down. The computers need to learn excuse is nonsense.

Thanks for sharing!

The challenge is that the problem does not happen when I did the Off Road test you mention. What I am seeing now is becoming more clear. And I think you are right it's the TC! I think.

The problem is intermitted, but when it happens it feels like the car is about to halt. Almost like someone applied manual hand break on the rear wheels, usually happens on slow speeds on 1st or 2nd gears. Very consistent with the Transfer Care situation, basically the clutches inside the TC are locking, or something like that. Oh and I have around 26K miles and 5 years on the car, again consistent with when the TC gives up. I am surprised Porsche is not more willing to just replace it at this point.

So far the dealership is saying they want to reproduce it, but they could not. I am getting frustrated a bit and when the problem occurs, it seems there is so much tension on the engine and transmission that I am now worried this problem will cause more problems later.

I have extended warranty and also Porsche has a special 7 years warrantee on the TC. I am going to try to get them to pay for a replacement at this point, will see how it goes. They have been very good so far to be honest, really like their service.

Well I'm 2 weeks away from my 7 year extension ending so I did the test. 2017 S 126k miles, unknown history on the transfer case but the car lived entirely in Socal doing long highway drives.

With Off Road mode on, Low speed tight forward turns no problems. Reverse however I do feel some mild to medium thumping at sharp steering angles. Made an appointment with the local dealer and hopefully can squeeze this replacement in.

Quick update: so far the problem seems to happen more often after reversing, especially with sharp left or right reverse. No issue when reversing, but happens right after the reverse.

Dealership is still trying to reproduce it.

I am impressed with how good the dealership and Porsche USA are so far, really trying hard to fix the issue.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I did a bunch of these but they were all negative. The problem happens like 2 times a week, very bad when it happens. Now that I know reversing triggers it, hopefully I can go again and try to repro with them. Thanks for the suggestion again.
When you say reversing triggers it , do you mean you experience the problem in normal drive mode mode , after reversing , and only in Ofd Road mode ??

Not a reply, but, can anyone confirm the cost for a replacement TC?
I have a 17 GTS with 77,000 and my SA tells me the TC has not been replaced. The car drives just fine, but, What to do next? am I going to have the problem eventually or did some escape whatever failure created the problem? this is a bitch...
