You should ask Porsche to reimburse at least part of the cost.

How about preventive maintenance for those transfer cases that haven't failed?

Can the modified vent tuber not be retro-fitted to original design transfer cases?

;)

You can add me to the list of replaced transfer cases, 2015 S at 38,200 miles.

Started noticing catching and slipping when turning into my garage and when accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear. I brought it to the Porsche dealership in Birmingham, MI (Fred Lavery) where the service rep immediately diagnosed the TC issue. He also mentioned it was the 3rd he had seen that week... Initial quote for TC replacement out of warranty was $4500. Fortunately, my service rep was able to work with PCNA to get the total cost down to $600 out the door and I left pretty happy. Start to finish it took 3 days to get it back.

Good job!

^^^ Glad Porsche is standing behind its cars!

This should be the action going forward for us if any doubt about TC issue comes up.

grim, do you have any stats on transfer-case failure by model year?
In a quick look at the most recent cases posted here, I do not see any 2018 Macans...
Have any 2018 Macans had a transfer-case failure? You'd think that Porsche would figure out the problem and stop shipping out new vehicles that can have the failure...

This is the only post that indicates the cutoff date https://www.macanforum.com/forum/complaints/87514-tranfer-case-5.html#post2524479 Cars built before 3/18.

Are the transfer cases being replaced by the same bad design TCs that were originally put in? Or is there an updated TC with new part number that will last?

Take a look at posts 134 and 136. New part number of the parts being replaced to include a newer transfer case. Since mine was replaced I have not experienced any problems. Fingers crossed!

Another one here.

2016 Macan S. 55,000km on it. Started a few thousand kilometers ago, particularly noticeable on downshifts.

Took Vancouver Porche almost a week to diagnose and get approval for repair under warranty. Apparently they had to contact Toronto with diagnostic info, wait several days for them to get back (and suggest a software update - which didn't work) and then go back for reapproval to replace the transfer case.

Also took 3 weeks to get the "earliest" available appointment at the dealer. Argh.

Make sure they do it right! From you post it does not seem they have much experience in replacing TC.

Flash you had your TC replaced as well as having the engine pulled due to the oil leak? Wow, you must be thankful you are under warranty! Which dealer did the work? Hope they gave you a great loaner.

Got my car back after a series of missed completion dates. Promised June 4th at 5PM, delivered June 8th.

Attached is a copy of the dealer service record - curious if that's typical?
I don't know -- so far, so good, on our '18 S (26,000 miles, 19 months old) -- but I just learned a new word (after looking it up): swarf. Yeah, everyone else probably already knew the meaning, but I don't get out much.

This does not look like the transfer box. The transfer box is 95B-341-010-AX see https://parts.porscheofannapolis.com/oem-parts/porsche-transfer-box-95b341010ax AX replaces A.

This part is something else https://parts.porscheofannapolis.com/oem-parts/porsche-transfer-box-95b341010ax Slide Valve Gearbox. What is it? Lets see https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/pet/porsche/95b/544u/320100/ part 13 which looks like its attached to the PDK

This - https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/pet/porsche/95b/544u/305000/ is the transfer box.

I never heard of the word swarf either. What is it? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swarf metal shavings? From break-in? This is not a word that I've ever heard come up in conversation - ever. Like "Hey, I found swarf in my oil". Metals shavings in oil, yes, collect them at bottom on magnetic drain plug but not the word "swarf".

This goes beyond what I ever heard, swarf in whatever this component is attached to the main body of the PDK? So a quick search comes up with very little, about no complaints on an Porsche, just this from the UK which might be talking about this 981 GTS.

Maybe one of the people who routinely wrench their cars can talk about "swarf". I admit, I never heard of metal shavings in a PDK.

My 2015 Turbo just went off warranty 2 month ago with 22000 KLM and is now acting up with shuddering on 1st gear and when backing up
Going in for a check up June 17th,2019 ,but after reading these threads it sure looks like my T.C. too .Thank You .
