Hello,

This not really a complaint, My turbo started to shudder when I was backing up and when I put it drive it would shudder in 1st, 2nd and a little in 3rd. The car has 14k miles. I brought to the dealer and it turns out that the transfer case has gone out. The dealer was great.
We are awaiting new cv joints that Porsche recommended to be replaced also.

The car has been a great car, this is more of a heads up to all on this forum.

One way to look at this situation is that once the transfer case replacement is finished you will be beyond the two most significant issues with the car. Have you had other problems with the car?

Clearly the extended warranty quotes you have been given are wildly overpriced. Are these quotes from the dealer that is working on your car? Do a search and you will see plenty of discussion on extended warranty pricing.

So far as investing in an extended warranty, it will cost you less then the depreciation expense on a new Macan the minute you drive it out the dealer store.

Did the dealer really tell you they are having trouble finding a technician that knows how to complete this repair? If yes, that is rather amazing. Which dealer is this?

Have you had a discussion with the service department manager or the dealership general manager to let them know of your dissatisfaction? if that doesn’t get you anywhere, it’s certainly time to call PCNA.

Another way to look at it… At least all the miles you were driving in the interim is going on your loaner car instead of your own car.

Not really beyond this significant issue once transfer case is replaced. I had mine replaced on 2015 Macan S 2 years and 9k miles ago.....needs replacement again. This time I am a few weeks passed the 7 yr warranty period so I get to pick up the $3k bill. My Macan S only has 27k miles. How many times will the transfer case need to be replaced???????

I had a new transfer case installed yesterday along with alignment and pads on my 2017 GTS. Dropped off at 9 and picked up at 5. Here is a link to company I used for extended warranty when I purchased the car new Fidelity Warranty Services :: Home Page At that time the cost was $1700 for 48 months/50k miles. this was offered thru the dealership but the warranty was with a 3rd party. If you contact them for a quote please post it if you don't mind. My warranty expires at the end of the month and considering looking into extended warranties as well.

Save yourself a call to Fidelity Warranty services, I called them and they directed to the finance person at the dealership for extended warranty options.

Maybe this will help. See all actions stated in the invoice while replacing the transfer case in my car. In and out on the same day.

Please be aware that people may interpret TC as Timing Chain Cover or Transfer Case.

Transfer Case is under a day labour. You can clearly see how to remove and install when you remove the underside covers.

Timing Chain Cover leaks is a week. My dealer took over three. It's an engine out job.

These are the two most common problems with Macan. Porsche has come good on the Transfer Case. The timing chain cover is annoying - but not catastrophic in most cases. If not under warranty I would not pay to fix it - but it is very disappointing Porsche has not extended warranty on this very defect.

I have a 2018 Macan Turbo that I custom ordered. Currently it has 6300 miles and no mechanical issues. Earlier today I received a letter from PNA informing me that “the transfer case long-term durability may be below Porsche’s high quality standards. Porsche is extending the warranty coverage specifically for the transfer case in your vehicle to 7 years/unlimited mileage.” This covers 2014-2018 Macan’s.
Good stuff!!

I dont know why you’re throwing around “this is a fact” but it’s actually NOT a fact...dealer is blowing smoke up your ass and you’re taking it in like it’s your job...engine does NOT have to come out for the dealer to get paid..they are just trying to stretch the amount paid to them from Porsche headquarters...

if my memory serves me right, before I signed the deal on my 18 macan last month, a salesperson, used to be service technician, stated they have solved the problem with the transfer case isssue and don’t need to replace them. I believe he stated the original seals were coming lose and moisture etc got into the area and caused the transmission to slip. He said a transmission flush and re seal all areas will fix the problem. Now I may misheard on how/why it happens or how to fix it but he did say they wouldn’t need to replace the whole transfer case.

hope it works out, but I’d find a new dealer if nothing has been done since late August.

I've had the timing cover leak issue with my 2017 Macan S. It was a week long, engine out job. I've talked to my SA about the transfer case. Mine is not bad, but he said it's only a 1 day job. Engine out is not required for a transfer case replacement. Those are really the two major issues for the Macan 3.0L as far as I know.

While I doubt the majority of owners have experienced problems, the issue is widespread enough to the point Porsche extended the warranty on them.

Thank you all for your valuable information. I have attached the Porsche Warranty Information. Yes, TC can be Timing Chain Cover Repair due to faulty Transfer Case as which they are often related. The attachment as "FACT" clearly states engine must be removed. Not a in by 9- out by 5 job. Hope this helps others with similar issues. BTW I forgot to mention that my 2017 Macan GTS has 33,259 miles when oil leak issue was found. Again thanks all, and hope this information can help someone else. Cheers

FWIW, there is no recall for the transfer case - nor is there one for the timing chain cover.
NHTSA issues recalls for safety issues - only.

If your Macan is still under warranty, the coverage for the transfer case has been extended.
If your warranty has already expired (as of when the extension went into effect) then you're likely
on your own.
I am not exactly sure if I understand you correctly but the transfer case warranty was extended to 7 years regardless of when the factory warranty ran out. I had mine replaced 14,000 miles after my factory warranty expired and I do not think anyone has reached 7 years of ownership yet.

That Riverside poster is very confused and I hope no one believes what he/she is saying. My transfer case was replaced under warranty at 19K miles. 2018 GTS. Car was dropped off for an oil leak on a Monday afternoon and car was done on Thursday afternoon. Oil leak was found coming from passenger side valve cover, not timing chain cover and transfer case was deemed to exhibit symptoms that justified replacement. Neither required engine out.

No one is confused . I have the documents posted to prove Porsche is aware of the Timing Chain and Transfer case issue. Porsche stepped up and increased the warranty to 7 yrs on the Timing Chain and paid for all work associated with this.
Porsche USA is aware as my car was in for the service for 7 weeks. German made oem parts and COVID had impacted the ability to service in a timely manner.
My point was to make others aware of my dilemma share thoughts and receive advise from the community. Cheers.

For those who might be confused I have attached itemized repair of TC/Timing Chain and transfer case issue. PCNA and my dealership stepped up and repaired under Warranty. Next Q- Do I get extended warranty now that warranty is expired?Do I not worry about warranty, Do I keep car or trade it? :) Cheers

Riverside - You have been informed several times by forum members that the TCC (timing chain cover) issue
is not, repeat not, the same issue as the transfer case. While the TCC issues may be resolved without removing the
engine, Porsche corporate insists that an engine out procedure be used in order to provide warranty coverage.

The timing chain (and its cover) is located on the FRONT of the engine.

PLEASE stop insisting that a transfer case (on the opposite end from the TCC) replacement requires an engine
out procedure. Other forum members have repeatedly demonstrated this fact.

The transfer case is at the rear of the transmission.

You're winning no points by insisting your misunderstanding of the facts is correct. I'm reminded of the Flat Earth
people...

As for extended warranty, you should read the threads discussing the Porsche Extended Warranty (assuming you
bought the vehicle CPO) and/or your own copy of the CPO warranty and/or talk to you local dealer and/or PCNA.

Keep or trade? YOUR call. Realize you now have a new transfer case and a corrected TCC situation. Buying another
Macan may expose you to other issues. There are no guarantees in this life!

Hopefully this is now put to rest...

Good luck!

Anybody know, if the 7 year warranty for transfer case problem is available only for US region ?
On cold weather I have the same symptom when backing up after starting the car.
Car has under 20k miles on it.

I have the oil prepared to change. But that surely is just a temporary fix.
If its a known warranty issue i'd preffer the transferbox warranty change.
