Note the number of times this vehicle has been washed in the first 600 miles.

Also note the number of hours correcting the paint before anything else was done.

I think this has to be the greatest detailing post I've ever read.

He has more pictures of his boy's car seat, from every possible angle, including the bottom, than I have of, well anything. I dont see how he has anytime to do anything but take pictures but I wish I had that much time. He must be having fun.

Who is going to do that for their Macan? Wow.

 

I wash my Porsche irregularly. If I find a stone chip, I don't care - I view it as a battle scar. If I discover a mark on a wheel rim I am more concerned but internalise it and quietly blame it on my wife or my friendly tyre replacement outlet whose profits I support. I agree with @sebis , cars are meant to be driven. They should have bug splatters on the front.

you have to know how to drive the car as well as how to care for it

washing it is part of caring for it. i dont believe in neglecting my cars but i also dont believe in not driving the piss out of them.

i do maintenance very religiously with good quality products and i detail my cars regularly with quality products.

 

Thanks to @grim I just spent $500 on washing and detailing products and I barely got started ... this gets expensive fast. I did order that grit guard dual bucket deal as well, hopefully works as advertised.

Ohh, and I didn't even place the order for my Macan yet.

#2 is impressive I can tell you that. I received today the shipment from Eley, that was fast since I ordered over the weekend. Disclaimer, I haven't had a chance to use or test it yet. However, I never thought I would be in awe over a pistol grip hose nozzle and couple of quick connects... I am impressed. The build quality is amazing, on par with my real pistols from H&K... this says a lot.

I will post more impressions once I get to mount and use the quick reel and get to actually wash the (non-Porsche for now) car.

you can even try to apply opticoat 2.0 yourself. do you have a polisher?

 

Here they are, I included my hand as a size reference, that hose nozzle is huge. I don't have a polisher but I didn't think that Opit-Coat is a DIY job, I need to do some more research into this.

Unfortunately I don't think my pressure washer supports attachments, I will have to check. I know that it has the ability to use soap, I am thinking to try that first before I have to buy a new (read more expensive) pressure washer.

EDIT: I figured it out, if you have a Karcher electric pressure washer this is the one you need:

the foam gun isn't really all that necessary.

you can do just as good of a job with 2 buckets and some good wash soap and mitt.

I have a Karcher bought from Costco few years ago for under $200, still going strong but by no means as nice as a Kranzle for example. IMHO you should stick with something around $200 or get a Kranzle, I did some research few weeks ago and didn't find anything in between.

P.S. Amazon has the Kranzle K1122TST on sale for only $1,190.

 

Finally got a chance to put together the dual bucket .

 

The pieces are starting to come together, the quick reel is in place now .

The key to having time, space, budget to be this fastidious = an understanding wife!

 

I don't know about your part of Texas, but in So Cal I had to get a de-ionizer due to the heavy mineral content in the water that would leave terrible spots on the car if you didn't get it dry immediately. I still use it here in the PNW as there is a trace of minerals since our area is served by wells. My resin lasts 10 times longer here than it did in So Cal, so cost of use is minimal now. I use a Toro electric leaf blower to blow my car dry now and it works great, including getting the water out of all the mirror and door crevices.

Thanks, water is not bad here, we are served by a local well, I think. We did some testing when we moved in and were told that we don't need a water softener. Having said that, I am sure there are minerals in the water, is the de-ionizer really eliminating the need to wipe it dry?

 

I have never thought of blowing drying a car and sounds like a clever idea. Do you ever get any debris or anything blown out onto the car like grit or anything ( I suppose if you have ever only used it to blow rather than suck up rubbish, it wouldn't have any debris in it!)

Seems like a life only a single person could devote that much time to. Back in my teens I spent lots of hours detailing, but with a job and family...its tuff to find an hour to even wash it, and if I'm lucky a weekend to fit in a polish and seal. Diminishing returns for a street car. The extra 40 hours won't make much difference over 4 hours unless in a showroom.

 

We are anal about the Cayman SBE. A 2007 Acura RDX is our daily driver being replaced by the Macan Turbo. The RDX constantly gets comments about being a new car - even after 7 1/2 years. The RDX gets washed at least once a week at a KAADY car wash or a touch-less wash and detailed twice a year at the dealer (when they have it on sale). My wife has made it clear the Macan will get the same treatment as the RDX - no hand washing!

 

Between school and work, I can't devote that much time. I detail my car, but on a Saturday or Sunday, for 2-3 hours tops, and that's what I use to 'relax' a little. I'm thinking most individuals are too busy to devote that much of their time a day to be that detailed.

 

Time to give feedback on my purchases as seen in the post linked below, finally had time to hand wash my 335d in preparation for the annual hand wax. I also had a chance to see what I am still missing for when the Macan is here since it will only get hand wash treatment.

1. Dual-Bucket Washing System: the buckets are nice, the grit guard inserts are great, the dollies, not so much due to my sloped driveway . I had to lock the casters so then I could not roll it around thus it defeated the purpose. My advice: I would only get the buckets with the grit guards, no dollies.

2. Wall Mount Garden Hose Reel 1041: absolutely great, good looking and very sturdy. While pricey, I would get it again!

3. Pistol Grip Spray Nozzle Set 1105 and quick connects: absolutely the best spray nozzle I ever had or seen. The quick connects are very sturdy, no leaks and feel like it would last forever. Absolutely recommended!

4. Adams Wash Wax Shampoo: the jury is still out on this one, not sure if I didn't use enough but I wasn't impressed with the amount of suds it created. I need to try it again. Otherwise it cleaned up nicely.

So far I think I need to get some better towels for drying, wheel cleaner spray and wand and maybe a blower.

I do plan to opti-coat the RS Spyder wheels, do you thing that is a DYI job?

 

I also had a chance to see what I am still missing for when the Macan is here since it will only get hand wash treatment.

Wife tried the foaming stuff with a garden hose, not the pressure washer, although we have one. Pics and commentary here.

I don't know about the foaming soap. It's expensive stuff. But is was interesting and easy to do.

 

^^^ Just made another order with Griot's. Some things I was missing.

More towels, gallon of speed shine, wheel cleaner, car soap, and window cleaner. And the interior cleaner with a boars hair brush and some leather treatment.

I'll use this for awhile, figure out what I need next, and make another order.

My neighbor walked over tonight and wondered if I had washed the paint off my cars yet. Apparently Ive been spending too much time in the driveway.

Macan s with 10k of car wash supplies, or macan turbo with a 500 dollar detail from a pro once a year.

 

You know, when I was young I used to think that way. No time, etc. But there is something therapeutic about taking the time to do things yourself. It can be soothing, you have a sense of accomplishment, and the idea of letting some one else or company that could care less about your car other than to make some profit.

 

^^^ That. Nothing better than going for a drive in your freshly detailed car in the countryside.














Then promptly getting home and cleaning all the bugs off.

 

Or, you can leave it to the pros . Hold the armor all and air freshener please.
