Any rumors if/when the Macan will have the same camera setup as the Panamera (and maybe other models)? Think it can be retrofitted?

From the USA config:

Surround View
Four high resolution cameras provide a 360° view for more convenient maneuvering while the intersection view can also provide assistance at blind intersections.

There was a post talking about the new colors and options being available in October. The surround view was one of those options available for October builds. If it is important to you, just wait 6 months

The only post I saw referencing this option was in the sapphire blue thread

http://www.macanforum.com/forum/new.../new-2014-macan-general-discussion-forum/7274-sapphire-blue-availability-6.html

I've put a call into my salesman to check with corporate regarding this option. I'd be willing to put my order on hold for 4-5 months for this option (currently I have a June build), however if they don't have any further information regarding this, I'm not sure how much faith to put into that one post.

No solid mention anywhere for Macan.

I was thinking of waiting for the surround view + Sapphire blue. But I checked out the Surround view camera information for Panamera and unlike BMW it does not give you an intersection view using two cameras on sides of front bumper. That is when you can put the nose of the car at an intersection (across snow banks in my case) and see if there is any crossing traffic about to hit your baby. It just has a front camera to show you what you can already see with your eyes as well as cameras on two exterior mirrors and ofcourse rear-view camera. Not worth the wait IMHO...

Any update on this?

Our Infiniti SUV has a birds-eye surround view camera along with the usual front/rear views. Honestly, I never even look at the front/rear views even though they're on the same screen because the birds-eye view is so much better.

I was really disappointed to find out that the Macan doesn't even have this as an option. Any update on when they might add it?

Not related, but I also wish the Macan had a heads-up display like BMW and Hyundai (yes, Hyundai...the optional one on the new '15 Genesis is very nice).

Before I get slammed by the "You don't buy a Porsche for the electronics" folks, I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting decent tech in the car...especially if we're willing to pay for it as an option.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it either. While some people hate the electronic nannies, and these are nannies, I think anything that helps with safety is a good thing.

Unfortunately, PAG is not know for good electronics and lags badly behind other marques in this area.

If the surround cameras are as poor as the rear one, I don't think this is a worthy option. Every time I look at the back camera it feels like I am watching thru my grandma's glasses. I praised the Macan on handling dynamics, but they get an F from me on the rear view camera.

I find it very useful to park my 535i between the lines. Also has entertainment value when passengers try to figure out where cameras are mounted to allow you to see a top down view. Some know immediately that it's just picture of a car placed in the image others just don't get it. The giveaway is that the image of the car does not have a sunroof and mine does. Image quality is crystal clear on my car but on my wife's 2013 MB suv the quality is much less. I felt that the MB is on par with what I saw when I test drove the Macan so I know what to expect when my Macan arrives next month. I do wish that I could have optioned surround cameras on it even with the lesser quality image.

Yeah, the surround view on my Infiniti is crystal clear too. It is incredibly helpful and accurate.

C'mon Porsche, being bad at electronics is a lame excuse... we're not asking you to be Apple or Google... just be 80% as good as Hyundai for God sake.

Hmm, October. Not sure if I want to give up my dealer allocated August delivery to wait for this feature, even though I probably use it as much as my gas pedal. LOL.

Last I saw it was set be added as an option in November (USA), may be sooner in other markets.

I have it on one of my Infinitis. It's one of those, "if you have it you use it, it you don't, you won't miss it". If it were an option on my Macan, probably would have ticked it but I will have no issue without it... I rarely parallel park and that is were it has the most value, especially if you opted for larger rims.

Surround View camera's are great! My mother had them on her X5 but unfortunately, people are replying on them too much. The best surround view camera's you can have are your eyes and your judgement. Recently, I saw someone back out of a parking spot looking solely at their camera's, and as he started to turn his wheel, he rubbed against the car next to him. If it was me, this is an option I would not get. We need to go back to the days where we actually had control of our cars. Assistance systems are great, but they're there to assist should you need help getting into a tight spot, you're not suppose to rely on them.

I agree. I learned a few years back to not rely on cameras when backing out of my driveway and not seeing two joggers stopped on the sidewalk waiting for me to go past. I had no idea they were there because they were just out of camera range. I always turn my head ever since then. However the one reason I would always order surround cameras when available is my compulsive need to park exactly between the lines in parking lots. I get it perfect the first time with the cameras and that's worth it to me. And it definitely cuts down on the ridicule that my wife sends my way when I used to obsessively "repark" as she calls it.

Signs are that VW Group cars are going Android.

40 New Partners announced for the Open Auto Alliance | Androidheadlines.com

QUOTE:

"The Open Automotive Alliance is an association of big-name technology companies and vehicle makers with the shared aim of integrating Android seamlessly into automobiles. The Open Automotive Alliance (OAA) defines the Android Auto interface as the standard for the on-board integration of Android devices. It is the next step in the field of connectivity, linking smartphones or tablets with the in-car infotainment system for a fast and simple way of displaying smartphone content through the vehicle infotainment system and enabling intuitive operation.

The operation of Android apps is optimised specifically to driver needs. This simplifies the interaction between driver, vehicle and smartphone and reduces the possibility of distracting driver attention from the road."

@SOUTHERNPORSCHE Brochure says after 10/14. I was hoping it would show up with the SB/PSE/Sport Classic wheels, but no dice so far. I did ask if anyone in other areas of the world have had it show up yet, but I haven't seen any replies saying yes.

@bobblehead While it's not crystal clear like the X5, it's still very useful. And I checked it out on a Pamemera, and liked it quite a bit.

I almost never used surround camera on my X5. And the rear view camera on X5 is very good sometime, but gets very blurry very fast with some dirt, rain or fog. I find the Macan camera totally acceptable.

I'm curious too when it will finally appear (and how much?) on the builder webpage... can be good & bad depending on how you look at it. I was surprised to see PSE pop up a few weeks ago and I quickly added it on my order... again good & bad (good because I really wanted the versatility but bad because it's a nearly 3K option!). Ouch.

Has anyone now gotten this option?

I'm wondering how well the front corner view actually works, since it doesn't use dedicated cameras for this purpose.

Also, looking at pics, it looks like there's also an icon for a rear corner view. Is there one?
@mkaresh AFAIK it's still not available. Last option that I am waiting for. I think my build will lock before it's released.

Hi All,

Pg 253 of my manual suggests that they WILL be putting surround view in.

Obviously not something that's on my current car as it wasn't reality at the time of order.

There will be dedicated cameras on the front apron, exterior mirrors and bumper.

My wife just sold her 4 year old x5 with surround view cameras. Still hardly accept the fact that Porsche doesn't have that technology in 2014.
