Which one is a must have option on 2023 S? Surround View or Sport Chrono Package

in my 2023 S i ordered SV. i photograph homes in redwood forests so always backing up around trees in tight spaces, so it is helpful but the rear camera works about as well. i am glad i got it but it is not as useful as hoped. To me, SC is great for doing laps on a closed course with a true sports car; not an SUV. Sport Mode is more than enough for performance driving on curving roads for 90% of guys on this forum. Anyone pushing the limits on public roads in Sport Plus is a dangerous driver. If you need some speed thrills, find a speedway that offers shifter cart lessons.

I wouldn't say either is a "must have", but having had both options individually (SV on '21 S and SC on '23 GTS), I definitely get more use and enjoyment out of SC on my GTS. I had my S for 2 years and hardly used SV whereas I use SC on my GTS daily to change drive modes (I hate to admit it, but in 6 months with the GTS, I've yet to use the sport response button 😕).

Luckily the T has both included but I wouldn’t hesitate to add to any order.

SC allows customisation in the individual mode and twisting the dial (together with pushing the button for the most aggressive performance) is very convenient.

360 cameras also make parking and generally maneuvering easier especially if you map the customisable steering wheel button to display when needed.

Agree with @Oxford my wife’s Audi has surround view don’t use it. The car has a great backup camera and rear warning which is very useful. My Macan has SC and I launched the car twice. I wouldn’t buy SC again as it’s really over kill for street driving where I use sports mode quite a bit of the time. Launch is hard on the car and dealerships can track the number of times it’s been used. I rely on my backup camera for both cars Solely.

Surround view is incredibly helpful for parking. It seems that parking spots just keep getting more narrow, and a 360 camera offers far better perspective and guidance. Just my 2 cents…

I genuinely appreciate both options.

The Surround View proves to be invaluable in tight drive-through scenarios and for precise parking. It's particularly useful for aligning the vehicle perfectly straight or positioning it at the far left or far right parking spots adjacent to curbs. This feature stands out as my favorite because it allows me to park as close to the curb as possible, providing ample room for the car beside me.

As for the Sport Chrono, I use it routinely in my GTS. Regular Sport mode is my preferred setting and the one I use the most. However, I must admit that I seldom utilize the Sport Plus mode that it offers.

Regardless, both options constitute a minor expense when you consider the overall investment. Thus, opting for both is a reasonable decision.

I see your circumstance . I bought one Macan (also off the lot) a few years ago that had neither . In fact it also lacked most of the technology (like LCA) . 42K miles I traded it in and loved the car the entire duration . I never ached for surround view during that period but I did want SC . That would be my choice (especially on the new gen car ) ,

I've never had surround view on any of my Macans or Cayennes and have never been in a situation where I thought I needed it. I've had surround view on a large Infinity SUV years ago and have had it on various loaner cars and can say IMHO that it's nice to have, but not necessary.

Also, just my opinion... on a base Macan you can do without the Sport Chrono but on an S you should get it.

Why does it have to be an either or proposition? Each only adds like $1300 right?

Sport Chrono gives you the steering wheel mounted mode dial and programmable individual mode which eliminates the need to look down on the center console to press the sport "button".

Surround view makes it incredibly easy to safely back into tight parking spots.

I ordered mine, and I opted for having Sport Chrono and not having Surround View. My logic was as following:

1) I figured I didn't need Surround View. My last vehicle was vehicle bigger than the Macan (Honda Ridgeline), that I could park just fine with a rear view camera and my mirrors. And I always back-parked the truck into spots.

2) I wanted Sport Chrono. Not for the lap timer. Not even for launch control. But I wanted the extra configurability of Sport+ Engine and Sport+ Chassis settings. And I especially wanted the Individual setting for Engine/Chassis settings. If I'm feeling "sporty", I like the engine in Sport and the Chassis in Sport+. Plus having the dial on the steering wheel is very convenient.

OP, if you read this and it sounds like you, you know which car to pick. If you read this and it sounds the exact opposite of you, then you know which car to pick.

Sorry, but people today have gotten so lazy they can't do anything for themselves without technology. I back into tight spaces all the time with just the normal rear view camera easily. When I was a teenager I had a job parking cars on weekends. I used to park big "boat" '70's and '80's Cadillacs and Lincolns all the time, backing them up into the smallest spots without any camera at all, just looking back where you were going.

That’s an interesting point, how much resale value options add, but I would think surround view would hold up better, it’s in the nature of a safety feature. Personally, I would think a used car with sports chrono would have been driven harder than one without. For me, the back up camera is all I need (and LCA) and sometimes when I use the camera I feel like I’m cheating and there’s an internal battle whether to look at the camera screen or turn my fat head around. So if it were me, between the two, I’d go with surround view. But, I believe you should buy the car for what you want not what you think the next owner will want.

SPORTS CHRONO 1000%. It gives the car three different personalities. Doesn't matter what trim level. Are you buying a Porsche to drive it or park it?
