Email from service adviser said the Bose update was workshop campaign # WPJ6. Google that campaign code and you get this Natl Hwy Traffic Safety Administration link describing the update: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10243637-0001.pdf
Translation: The amplifier is decent. The subwoofer is somewhat shitty. Therefore, we are going to lower the power output of the amplifier to ~70% instead of upgrading the subwoofer so that we won't have to replace the subwoofer when it starts rattling.

You were correct. Did a quick search on other forums and found out it was Porsche's solution to lower the volume to save the shotty woofer from blowing and rattling.

It's a shame. I really enjoyed the punchy bass. Now it's weaker than the base sound system in Kias and Hyundais. I'm not even joking.

This should result in a class action lawsuit. I wish I knew how to reverse it.
A class action lawsuit? Serious?

2nd Macan S here and both the 2017 and now 2022, I threw away that Bose Sub Speaker. $10 max value and installed a Rockford Fosgate shallow depth 8" sub and never looked back...Boom Boom Perfect!
So, is that a direct replacement? Was a custom housing required? DIY or take it to your local car stereo shop? TIA.

A while back (8 - 10 months ago) I had posted an issue I was experienceing with my right passenger door speaker that was emitting an odd duck-like sound with most most music that had a heavier base sound. (2021 Macan S) The speaker was replaced 4 times without any success. I even had the software update that was an acknowledgement of what others described (obviously it was never told to me that it was to reduce base/subwofer sound). This "update" didn't fix this duck-like vibration/sound. Ultimately the Service manager got involved and they kept my car for about a week to do some investigation. The successful result, that has given me back a sound system that was a $5,000 option...they replaced the from passenger speaker for the 5th time, replaced both amplifiers, and they replaced the right front door rubber molding. They said it appeared there was "more than normal" water pooling at the bottom of this speaker.
Replacing both amplifiers has actually given me more base sound, although it appears (sound to my ear) to emit from the rear (with a neutral sound setting...0 balance left to right and front to rear). It's almost as if the rear amplifier wasn't working previosly. It's been a few months and crosssing my fingers the success continues. I hope this may help someone else, because I can now hear the difference (and I do not "blast" my music).
An added thought...when one pays $5,000 for the enhanced sound system and Bose indirectly admits that it is substandard by reducing base levels or stating the base setting is too high (which I find ridiculous, why have the setting if you cannot use it?) then Bose/Porsche should reimburse or replace what I would classify as a defective product. A work-around to me is an admission. For those who mentioned a class action lawsuit, it may be the only way to get any real result to this issue effecting so many. I so fa have been lucky to have a service manager who seems to have discovered and fix my specific issue (again, fingers crossed).

Just my rhoughts and the positive fix I experienced. Hopefully this helps someone else. You do not have to agree, so please don't "at me" as others did previously. Positivity please.

The Premium Plus Package for the Macan is priced at about $4900 and includes the Bose sound system.

Opting for the PPP is not paying $4900 for the Bose system.

If one wanted the option of a ~$5000 system in a Macan, the Burmester system is available at that price point. I know of one Macan
equipped with both the PPP and the Burmester system.

Bose is $990 as a stand-alone option. It was worth every penny before the update. After the update (read downgrade) it's similar to the standard sound system in a Hyundai.

Have a 22 S and recently got reminded of the Bose and park assist update (which I never use). Made a service appt for next week, but glad I came across this post. I'm going to cancel the appt and decline the updates, I like my Bose as-is and don't care to down grade it..thx
What's the park assist update?

The amp may or may not be decent, as you state. As I understand it, pre-update the system could potentially damage the subwoofer. Such
damage could be inflicted by the reasons discussed below:

In this instance, perhaps there were two options:

1. reduce the amplifier's output
2. replace the speaker(s)

One is a no-cost option, requiring only a s/w or f/w update. The other involves [dis, re]assembly and a new part.

If you were running the business, which would you choose?

Failure to lower the amp's output level could result in blown speakers and, again, result in the labor & part option noted above.

It is acknowledged above that pre-update) the subwoofer sound output was, "somewhat sh*tty". This suggests that it was being
overdriven during that period, and/or was of poor quality. Other forum members have posted that it sounded fine.

I would bet that, even with the update, the Bose system can be played loud enough to inflict hearing damge. What's the new
maximum SPL dBA reading?

What should I do?
I would take this opportunity to... UPGRADE!

If the amplifier max volume is limited, simply replacing a subwoofer(even with its own amp) won't solve the issue

The update is just lowering the preamp gain to the Bose subwoofer amp, no? Adding a new, more powerful amp with a better driver and control over the gain of that sub amp will most certainly fix the problem.

If I'm not mistaken, there's no separate subwoofer amp, and sounds like the whole system output system volume was lowered, not just the subwoofer output

The subwoofer amp is part of the subwoofer assembly, (in initial Gen. 1 Bose systems at least):

My dealership told me there was a "recall" to update/reprogram the Bose amplifier when my car was in the shop for an oil change.

Now, the sound is noticeably quieter. Even at max volume is not even as loud as it used to be at 70-80% before.

Anybody experienced something like this? What should I do?
Urgent: from your home screen click on the Porsche app under music profile, click on party music and you have all the base you need
