hey,

i am coming from a BMW where all service is just included and trying to get my head around porsches service plan.

i'm being charged like $1850 i think for the 3 year 30,000 mile plan

but it doesn't include brakes or wipers-- so mostly its just covering oil changes and inspection stuff. Is it worth it?

who has it vs who doesn't?

the dealer is claiming you get an extra point of residual by getting the plan.

thoughts?

Josh, don't know about the residual (I'll have to ask) but I looked into the 3 year service as I too am coming off of a BMW. The package costs less than paying for each of the three annual services individually, keeping in mind you are paying in non-depreciated 2016 dollars and paying up front.

The coverage is, I think, fairly similar to what BMW includes in the first 3 years of the 4 year service package they include with their new cars.

thats kinda what i was thinking-- BMW covers brakes as well as i just had them done. i figured it made sense but just wanted to check if people do it or not or if there was a way to negotiate a better deal or more coverage

The 3 year plan from my dealer is $cdn1,500. They recommended this for a 4 year lease (makes sense). If I remember the numbers correctly, current total pricing on the three annual regular services was about $cdn1,800.

I didn't get the service package, it didn't seem such a deal as I am used to with Audi and there are top notch Porsche indie shops at a much lower price for what is nowadays very basic work.

Btw, with BMW you pay for the service in the cost of the car, no free lunch.

Yeah, there's little need to pay wild dealer costs for routine service like oil changes and brakes, regardless of whether you pay as you go or under a service plan. Unless you are ordering the optional ceramic brakes there's nothing at all unusual about most routine service on a Macan. Of course your dealer will try to convince you that special knowledge is needed to service a Macan, both for services like oil changes and brakes it's not true at all.

No doubt your dealer wants to lock you in to a high profit service plan before you discover this for yourself, and wish you never bought it :)

this is all why i'm on the fence with it all. I know BMW builds it into the cost of the car and its not truly free-- but that value proposition is there.

with this it seems expensive and not exclusive enough to be worth it. do i really need to go to porsche for an oil change?

i think the extra 1% of residual doesn't really get us enough to value the extra $1850 in price and think i'd rather pay as we go....

being haven't bought the car yet i don't have any mileage to explore but what are the factory recommend repairs/miles points?

Do you have a good indi garage around? We passed on the service plan from our dealer. We've got an independent mechanic that specializes in the VAG lineup. That's all he does & we've used him for a few years now. His rates are far better than the dealer's rates are. If you're determined to use the dealer for service, then the plan may be worth it. Otherwise, no, I think.

Use the search feature and you will instantly see lots and lots of discussion on this. Many opinions on both sides of the coin. Personally I avoid the over priced dealer service (to me it's still overpriced even with a service plan) but there are plenty of forum members that don't agree with me.

I am still waiting for delivery of my Macan S, so I thought it would be good time to explore service pricing.

Checking with a local Richmond Va dealer, 10K service was $245 (I read $418 for Beverly Hills Porsche), 20K $690, and 40K was 1,550--all of which are cheaper than the linked pdf schedule. They said the 40K service is the expensive one.

Based on the schedule below: http://porschedealer.com/pdf/Macan_Service_Brochure.pdf a 30,000 mile, 3 year maintainance would cost $1,794 ($308.38+$689.57+$796.69). So 1,850 seems like your simply prepaying for the service.
