Thanks for all the info but kind of still very confusing not gonna lie so you’re saying you don’t have to register it but it’s probably a good idea to do so???
So I purchased a Varta OEM battery that has 90% life from a guy on OfferUp!! he said the battery had been only used for six months!! I just wanna make sure that I keep all the original settings and do the right thing that’s required…. Not sure if this battery is registered to another vehicle. Do we know if that’s gonna pose a problem??? it was only 80 bucks so I was pretty stoked about it.
I guess I can just install the new battery and on my launch 431X pro enter the serial numbers and hope for the best!
If you already own a tool to register it, then by all means do it because it's not that difficult. There is a LOT written on this forum about how to do it. But if you do not, it will not affect you other than to delay re-enabling systems that MAY have been disabled while the BMS system detected a battery in poor health. These are typically the Auto Stop-Start system and in my case the occasional front distance sensor error which was something that would be re-enabling by just driving a little and turning the key off and then on again. There could be other systems affected if your current battery's SOH is very low.

Registration is necessary so that the battery is properly charged from car electrical system. Not doing so may cause under or over charging. Hence, important parameters in registration are type of battery (AGM in our case) and Amp-Hours specification. Other information is not important but necessary to complete registration. I usually add the string of numbers on the barcode followed by necessary 0’s to compete the number string.

You can use any battery that fulfills specification. For our Macan, H8 or H9 AGM with at least 950CCA and about 90-100 Amp Hours…

I agree to the extent that you are replacing an old battery with one that has a different amp hour rating or a different battery type.

In the case of a different Ah rating, the likely effect is that the BMS will misinterpret the battery's SOH as different battery capacities will cause the SOC to be different for a given alternator supplied voltage. So swapping in a bigger battery might cause the BMS to think that the battery's SOH was worse than it is because it would take longer to charge than it expected.

Battery type information is really important because different technologies require different charging voltages.

But, if you are swapping in a battery with the same Ah rating and same type (e.g. AGM) then registration has a much more limited benefit.

Is it worth the extra $60-75 for Bosch S6-95R vs. a NAPA BAT 9895R battery?

Same rating (AGM, 950CCA & 105AH). The only difference I can see it the Bosh has a 4-year warranty vs. the NAPA 3-year.

I have a AUTEL MaxiAP which I should be able to use to register the new battery, correct?

There are only a handful of battery makers (Bosch is not one of them) and hundreds of battery brands. Ask NAPA who makes their batteries. Be aware that some may be made by one company while others, by other companies. This is sometimes true even within the same product description and retailer if they are large enough. Also, look at the country of manufacture for another hint. My Walmart Everstart AGM - Made in Germany battery looks identical to the Porsche OEM battery right down to the mold marks in the plastic housing.

call me old fashion but I purchased the Porsche OEM battery from dealer for $350 and put it in myself and registered it with an Autel MD808 Pro. Car is still under warranty and I didn't want any excuses if I have to take it in for warranty work.

It will be difficult to register it without Porsche battery because you need to enter the number from the battery and it doesn't seem to recognize other format numbers.

As has been written here multiple times..... it is easy to register ANY battery. Simply use the correct number of characters for the part number and serial number fields. Make up your own numbers or letters. It does not matter.

I use the numbers under barcode of ANY battery and complete the rest with 0’s…. Worked every time. Didn’t have any warranty issues for using an aftermarket battery…

A few hundred posts ago, I stated that I replaced my battery with the 92ah from NAPA which, at the time, was manufactured by East Penn/DEKA. The case was identical to the original that I removed. After "registering" it to the vehicle, it works as intended. Obviously, the battery speaks German. 😊

I just did an Interstate search on Costco. The H9(95R) AGM is $270 in-store. That will do it. Not worth $140 for an extra year of warranty on the Bosch.

Costco warranty seems to be prorated now. Napa is 3 years. Interstate is 3 years.

Walmart Everstart seems to be 4 years.
The EverStart battery four year Free Replacement period begins the day of the purchase and expires four years from the date of purchase.
EverStart Platinum AGM Automotive Battery, Group Size H8 / LN5 / 49 12 Volt, 900 CCA
$179

Has anyone found the Varta at VW or Audi for cheaper than getting it from Porsche?

That Everstart battery is a winner.
It replaced my OEM battery in my 2020 Macan Turbo perfectly (4.5 years old) and has operated perfectly, without a hitch. I registered it as a 95AH battery with a scan tool and never looked back. Just be sure to check the date code before Walmart purchase and try to get the newest one on the shelf.

The Varta brand battery for Macan, as are many other different brands' batteries (e.g. Interstate and Wal-Mart Everstart AGM in certain regions of the country etc. etc. etc.), is made by Clarios one of the few large worldwide makers. That's why the many mold marks on my German made Wal-Mart Everstart AGM were identical to the ones on my OEM Varta / Porsche battery.

PIWIS data is from a few days ago. Battery tester is from today.

This is the original battery from 2020.

I also was able to code out the
Recuperation setting.

It’s really interesting, but we do not have recuperative or regenerative braking in Macan, ICE models anyway.
We have “coast” mode …….but this is not the same.

I still really like the idea of 14.4 being applied in comfort mode. I do see this fall to 13.8 after some drive time. As discussed Sports and Sports plus see 14.4 in the MFD.

Found some more info.

ChatGPT summary:

  • Recuperation Function (All Macan Models):
    • Converts kinetic energy into electrical energy during deceleration (e.g., braking).
    • Energy is stored in a high-performance starter battery.
    • Generator voltage is actively managed to optimize charging and reduce engine load during acceleration.
    • Stored energy powers electrical systems during acceleration, allowing full engine power.
  • Generator and Voltage Regulation:
    • 3 kW generator (220 A, 12–16 V) supplies vehicle electrical/electronic systems.
    • Voltage regulated by a LIN-controlled voltage regulator, managed by the gateway control unit.
  • Energy Management:
    • Battery sensor data sent via LIN to the gateway control unit.
    • Gateway uses intelligent algorithms to calculate energy needs.
    • Generator adjusts output based on gateway's request.
  • Additional Controls:
    • Braking and load response info comes from the DME control unit.
    • In stop & go traffic, the gateway can request higher engine speed to boost generator output at idle.
