There is no need to have a charger or 12V power supply connected while the battery is changed. The only setting you will lose is the one-touch window feature, which is easily re-enabled by opening the window, then closing it, holding the window close button for a few seconds longer after the window stops moving.
Thanks. I went ahead and used the charger in "supply" mode and it seems all is well. Although I have not tried the window yet.

Another interesting thing. I tested the old battery with my foxwell battery tester and it has an option for "In car" or "out of car" I tested in car and it said it was bad so I replaced with a new Interstate from Costco that is actually 900CCA vs the 850 Varta. But now that the battery is out of the car and I retested it that way, it is at about 78% and I probably didn't need to replace. It read 668 out of 850. I am at a loss for the difference in car vs out of car. Any thoughts?

I did use the Launch to program the battery although the interstate didn't come with the two longer numbers, I just reused the varta ones. I did change the Ah and the CCA to match the new battery and the registration was successful.

Congrats! You did not mention (a) removing the vent hose from the old battery (b) plugging the unused vent hole in the new battery, nor (c) installing the hose in the new battery. Be sure to do that if you did not.
Saxforte, I missed this my first time reading through the thread - with this many pages it's not surprising but I caught it just now. I would never have noticed the open vent hold on the side without the hose if you had not said anything. I was able to pull it from the old battery and attach to the new. It is mangled a little as it was a bugger to get it out but the plug portion that inserts is just fine. Probably wont be able to use it a third time. Thanks for the helpful hint!

For what it's worth, new batteries usually come with a new plug, which is discretely part of the positive terminal plastic cover. FWIW, it's mentioned in the tiny little installation manual that is also attached to the cover. VW, Mercedes and probably others sell these and I'm sure any auto parts store has a bunch lying around. First image that came up on a Google search (it's actually partially covered by the arrow in this pic):

Great tip drawz. I guess it's obvious I did not open that little book on the battery but I still have that cover and I see the little red vent plug. Thanks for chiming in.

Just did this protocol on ‘18 Turbo (6.5 year Oem Varta) with new Costco Interstate H8 as precautionary measure. $169 w/o core and old Varta kept on Ctek for 12v stuff w/alligator clips for back up and and Viar air compressor. Very helpful instructions here as always.

I just replaced the battery in my 911 with the same size & capacity that I used for my Macan battery replacement.

95Ah
900 CCA

Pep Boys no longer carries Champion brand.
Everstart AGM H8 from Walmart is the least expensive, has a 4 year full replacement warranty & this has been discussed in this thread.

Despite advertising 900 CCA, many stores (all stores in the Phoenix area)
carry an 850 CCA version.
This one is NOT distributed by Clarios (formerly Johnson Controls)
Clarios makes only 1 H8 AGM car battery & it has 95Ah & 900 CCA.
(Yes, I called them)
Recall, from this thread, that Clarios distributes the Varta OEM Porsche battery.

Clarios makes:
Everstart for Walmart
Varta (Used by Porsche)
Die Hard (Now sold by Advance Auto Parts)
Champion (sold by Pep Boys, (now discontinued
Duralast (sold by Auto Zone)
AC Delco (Sold by Amazon)
Interstate (sold by independent garages and Costco)
Motorcraft (Ford)
SuperStart (O'Reilly Auto Parts)
Legend (NAPA Auto Parts)

There are undoubtedly more I have not listed.

B4 I gave up & paid much more for a Clarios battery from Interstate or Die Hard, or other brand with only a 3 yr. Warranty, I decided to try to order that Everstart from Walmart.com.
Free shipping.
If it arrived & was the 850 CCA, I’d take it to a local Walmart for refund & buy another Clarios brand for more $ & less warranty.

The price did go up ~ $10 to $179.84 but still much less than other brands & extra year of warranty.
Warranty on AGM batteries is not pro-rated.
If you test your battery 1 week b4 warranty expires & it is bad, you get a new battery! (I actually did this with my old Champion that I put in my old Jaguar, 1 month b4 the 4 yrs, expired. It tested marginal & Pep Boys replaced for $0)

My Everstart arrived a couple days ago & it was the Clarios 900 CCA!

I thought this would work since my confirmation email stated:
“Your package from Clarios is on its way”

Bench tests:
Out of the box MM = 12.69V
Charge with CTEK ~ 4 hrs.…MM=13.28 V.
Wait 2 hrs. b4 test with Solar to dissipate surface charge.
50˚F in garage
Solar= 13.01 V 100%
SSA/CCA 900
942 CCA, “OK”
SOH = 100%, (I calculate 942/900 = 105%)
SOC = 100%, 2.67 mΩ

I read of previous posters using a WalMart Everstart AGM battery and I looked into that. I would also apply 12V to the jump terminals under the hood to save the memory codes but my question then becomes: How do I reset the computer to "see" a new battery and not the 8 year old one I am replacing? Also a question; will my icarsoft POR II be able to reset the new battery conditions to the car?
Thank you all very much for any advice.

Wife's car is a black 2015 Macan S. with 42K miles. Thanks.

Puzzling...

If you read the previous posts, then apparently you've missed the ones that described using a diagnostic device to REGISTER
the replacement battery with your Macan (see this thread's title!).

The answer to your iCarsoft POR II question is also provided above! (I know - I have one of those too)

Scroll back and your answers are there!

Good luck.

Replaced a Varta 72Ah battery (original) in wife's 2016 Macan S with a Costco Interstate H8/49 95Ah AGM. All is right with the world. Original lasted 8 years, kudos to that but was on its last legs. Used a battery charger on underwood terminals and changed batteries so that memories were saved. Worked great. 42k miles on car but 8 years seems to be the limit for any OEM battery in my 50 years of driving. 3 year warranty on the Interstate seems decent. I use Johnson Controls, Optima AGM's in my other cars and they last well beyond warranty too.

I might be wrong. This is a cut&paste from a thread:

"I have an update. I emailed both Autel and iCarsoft customer service. I asked about the 2019 / 2020, but assume the answers would be similar for earlier years as well.
Autel: The Autel MD808 Pro (available here for $233) does support Battery Management System, and allows you to register the new battery on a Macan. This is per Andrew Libert @ Autel
iCarsoft: The older iCarsoft Por II does not support BMS. However, the iCarSoft V2.0 (available for $146 here) does allow you to register the new battery on a Macan. This is per Barnett Davies @ iCarSoft.

So, it sounds like there are at least 2 reasonably-priced tools which allow you to reset the battery on a Macan for DIY people (like me). :) If anyone on this forum ever does it successfully (or tries it unsuccessfully), please add to this thread!"

Sorry bout that. Guess it does...

Well then I take back my take back. Or something like that. Bottom line, I was correct in my initial spin on this. Thanks for the update Shark!
This is so confusing....so are these two confirmed to be working for battery registration and more?

Also check out the OTOFIX D1 Lite, made by Autel. Scans a ton of car makes, and will do PDK calibrations, all the service resets, live data and bi-directional actuatons of individual components.

Got mine on Amazon, and couldn’t be happier with it.
Can also register a non-OEM battery?

Just replaced the battery in my 2017 S. Bought a Duracell AGM Platinum, H8, 92Ah 850 CCA on sale for $180.00.
Prior to installing the battery, I took a picture to help with the registration process.
Suprise, the battery has no serial number. None, nada nothing. I ended up fabricating a serial number from a couple of numbers below the barcode and adding characters to total 15 characters. Used the part number from the old battery and changed one number. Used a Foxwell scanner and registration was painless.

Looks like you got your East Penn, USA made battery at at Sam's Club.
Which Foxwell model did you use?
Now that you have registered the battery, are you able to go back and see the registered information from the car on the tool ?

You are correct. Battery bought at Sams Club. Foxwell NT 530. I did not go back with the scanner and see the new info. Just happy that I had no errors and the scanner indicated that the info was accepted.

Hello all,

I really hope this is the correct place to post this. I recently acquired a 2018 Macan S and replaced its battery. Purchased the iCarsoft POR 2.0 from Amazon and thought I was off to a great start…

My issue seems to be that when I connect the computer to my 2018, and enter then vin, it shows me my vehicle then says “car not supported” 😭

I attached to to my 2023 Macan and it runs just fine….

I just want to clear all the errors so I can drive my car properly.

Has anyone had this issue? Should I return the iCarsoft I bought for a different one?

Thanks,
-Me

Hi everyone, I will be needing to replace the battery for a 2018 Mecan S soon. I'm wanting to ask what about a good stock replacement and if there is any reason to stick with a Porsche branded battery? Thanks.

There are only a few companies that manufacture batteries (Johnson Controls, Exide, East Penn), which are then relabeled by a huge number of companies. Any given company may even use multiple suppliers. The Porsche branded battery is made by Varta, a subsidiary of Johnson Controls. So there are no dramatic differences between brands in terms of quality, but pricing, warranties, and availability vary. Costco has a good price on Interstate batteries (recently bought one made in Germany FWIW). Walmart EverStart batteries are also popular. You need an H8 AGM and can read about registration in this thread.
