Probably everyone knows this, but when inside sideview mirror housing I found puddle lights. Leave lighting switch on auto and voila!
I did some testing on how this works today, given that I have Mirror Retract “enabled”. As stated, it only works when switch is set in “Auto”. Here are the results.
When you have Mirror Retract “disabled”, these under mirror lights will activate when you turn the car off and open the door. They will stay on as long as the courtesy lights are on, even when you close your car with your remote (activating the car alarm). They will also turn on when you open your car with the key fob.
When you have the Mirror Retract “enabled”, these lights will activate when you turn the car off and open the door. They will stay on as long as the courtesy lights are on, but, here is where the difference lies… they will turn off immediately if you close your car with your remote and mirrors retract. They will not turn on when mirrors are retracted, therefore, when you open your car with the key fob, they won’t come on since mirrors are retracted.
This is a trade-off, and you’ll have to make a decision on what you like best…. I’ll have to make a decision on that…
If only there was a way to “unretract” the mirrors automatically when you open the car with the key fob, that would be the best compromise…
@Teddis, to your question, they don’t turn on as you approach the car.
