If you're getting or thinking of getting a MY17, which one would you get? Porsche NAV only, Connect, or Connect Plus?:) Assuming you're picking a NAV related option in this case only.

I've never had a built in nav either, but partially because I've had 4 cars for the last 10 years or so, and figured it made more sense to move a portable GPS (prior to cell phone GPS) between them, rather than spending 8-10K to have built-ins in all the cars.

With the Macan, I'm going to use it as my daily driver so I figured having it in made more sense. When I get a call when driving, it's a pain to fiddle with the phone when using it as a GPS. Another selling feature with Connect Plus is being able to get real-time traffic on the factory system, which was always a deal breaker with older built-ins... why can't the $2000 system do what the free cell phone app can? Plus, the cell phone dashboard stand doesn't fly around the car during hard cornering with a built in. :)

Also, since the Macan is a shift for me in the kind of car I'm driving, I'm not sure how long I'll keep it, and resale is harder for a car in this class without a factory nav.

Nav only. I am fighting against a smart phone upgrade, mainly because I figure it is another way for the phone companies to get their money grubbing paws on more of my money. And with the rules here about using cell phones or portable devices in cars (even while stopped at a light or in a drive through) I figured the Nav would be paid for in a couple of tickets. Plus it looks cleaner and less cluttered. Last year in Europe I used a Garmin that kept coming off the dashboard about once an hour, it was fun trying to catch it on the fly!

The point of Connect/CarPlay is that it mirrors your smartphone display so that it "looks cleaner and less cluttered". The use of the smartphone while driving is no different than using PCM w/ Nav except that you can also use any apps Apple allows with CarPlay which right now is somewhat small, but hopefully will grow over time (CarPlay - Apple). You also get Siri for voice recognition which is likely better than what Porsche provides simply given the R&D Apple has spent and continue to spend to improve the software compared to Porsche which is more about improving the automobile.

It was a frustrating choice. I don't use an iphone...I'm using an Android phone so "Connect" is useless. "Connect Plus" is different in that it included google maps, Nav map updates (which may or may not be available for free or not without the option...confusing) as well as the iphone options I won't use because I don't have or want an iphone. I decided to just get nav, even though I really would like google maps. Had Porsche packaged the options differently, I would have added, as in paid for, google maps...[note to Porsche...you left dollars on the table].

Perhaps there will be an update to allow me to add what I want and not pay for any/all the apple junk and I might be able to add it. If not, I'll live happily with just navigation.

Another note....IMHO car connectivity to smartphones will become really interesting when you have both wireless connectivity between the phone and the car...and wireless charging of the phones. Just put the phone on the charging pad and it charges and connects at the same time.

Some great feedback on this very confusing choice. I chose Connect for a couple reasons. Our whole family is well integrated with Apple products. The cost savings over standalone Nav was definitely a factor. And lastly we're doing European Delivery picking up our Macan in Zuffenhausen. With the built-in PCM Nav, Porsche charges an extra fee for loading European maps. We're already going to have local SIM cards with very inexpensive data plans so using Apple navigation through CarPlay makes the the most sense.

I like the idea that our navigation data, points of interest, etc. will always be current and updated through the Apple Maps app.

Connect only for me. Nav tech just doesn't keep up and I find my phone has better interface and traffic info. If it had g maps and waze it would be perfect but I Apple maps is good enough and my phone is where I keep podcasts anyway. Siri is excellent too, and much better updated and maintained than oem systems. The iPhone is a much more powerful device than what's in the car, so why need anything else? Would be nice not to have data, and nice to have map in instrument cluster. But I spend the money in the cool exhaust instead.

One thing I find puzzling is the obsession with wireless connection. Given that I want the phone to be charging why not just plug it in? I know there's wireless charging, too, but that just seems like more needless complexity,

Within a couple of years, there will be no need to plug any new device into a cable to recharge...similarly, and we're farther along on this, you won't have to plug your phone into anything for connectivity.

It's not complexity..it's just the march of technology. It will actually be much simpler both at home, in the car, at work to just put your phone down on a pad and have it connected to your computer, your car, etc. while it's charging. Doesn't matter if you don't mind plugging in a cable or not....it's going to happen.

From my perspective...at home I have about 8 cords set up in my office to charge things in parallel...my phone, my watch, my tablet(s), my GPS. I actually purchased colored cables to make the cables easy to find. In my Mercedes, I have one cable which I always have to search for to plug into my phone for charging.... All those cables and connections are thankfully going to go away quite soon.

PCM only for me. I would've added Connect +, but I didn't want to spend an additional $1,300 for CarPlay since:
  1. I use Glympse, Waze, and other 3rd party apps more than Apple maps
  2. I wanted the speed limit indicator and maps on the MFD
  3. Having an iPhone is risky where I work, so I may not have one for much longer
  4. I didn't want to pay the monthly fee for the 'extra's with Connect+
  5. I'm hoping that just CarPlay can be added later, like Sport Plus. However, I'm not keeping my hopes up so I won't be disappointed if this isn't an option
  6. I didn't want to have to connect my phone every time I wanted to go somewhere, and also don't want to charge my phone every time I get in the car either since I don't want to put too many cycles on the battery (I'm OCD about my phone battery degrading over time)
  7. I ordered the GTS to enjoy the driving experience, so I figured that if I don't have the fancy entertainment options I'll focus more on the journey and less on the destination!

I have owned iPhones for years and am ordering connect only. Connect plus requires the hard drive navi and runs $3000, a $2400 upcharge. I don't need the extra features connect plus offers and haven't used navi in my current or former cars as the interfaces were clumsy. Hopefully connect will follow iPhone app innovations and grow with technology instead of becoming obsolete in a few years.

Just placed my order and went with Connect only. I can't imagine anyone else doing Nav any easier than it is to plug it in on Apple or Google maps on the iPhone. As people start to receive their 2017's with Connect, I'll be eager to hear comments from owners.

I ordered my car with Connect only.

I have Nav in my 911. I rarely use it, pulling up addresses on the iphone is so much easier.

If money was no object... I'd probably get both NAV and Connect. But i'd rather spend the $1700 on other options I'd actually use on a daily basis.

I think a lot of people ordered both because we didn't know how well either would work. Didn't know which would be easier/nicer to use. Ordering both covers all the bases. I just picked connect because it is easier to pull up addresses on my phone. I'm hoping as Apple updates things frequently, use on the car will update as well. Not so sure with Nav. I also don't want to pay for connect as a subscription or pay for Nav map updates. The $1700 USD got me more options I know I will like!

So just to clarify. You setup a personal wifi hotspot on your phone and then ask the PCM to connect to the phones wifi hotspot. Once the PCM system is connected to your phones wifi hotspot it pulls Streetview data from the phone? Does this work with Real Time Traffic info in the integrated Google Maps as well?

The reason why I'm asking is because this is the best solution and I was baffled why this wasn't the implementation, however, all my inquiries with Porsche have indicated that the PCM system cannot use the Phone's data connection and that the car requires it's own sim card to use these features.

I spoke to my SA today, and he strongly advised me to order Connect Plus (instead of just Connect). His rationale was that, during his recent PCM training in Atlanta, Porsche hinted that future updates will be available for people who have Connect Plus. In that regard, some of the examples he gave were: (1) remote start and (2) being able to temporarily remap the software to get additional horsepower, say, for a track day.

Has anyone else heard of something similar? If so, are there any more software updates that people envision coming down the pipeline? One thing I would think could be added down the road for people who have Connect Plus is wireless CarPlay (since I imagine that Wireless CarPlay will use wi-fi instead of just bluetooth, thus requiring Connect Plus instead of just Connect).

In any event, it would take a lot for me to be willing to spend an additional $2k to add Connect Plus.
