Sorry if this is a dumb question, but do you tip your SA's for either routine oil change visits or more extensive service appointments?
My father-in-law swears it gets him better service and pricing at his BMW dealer.
I haven't typically in the past for Audis or Range Rover dealerships.

I don't tip my SA but I did write him a thank you letter for helping me set up my delivery at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta.

I always receive excellent service at my dealership. I feel like if I had bought a $1MM+ 918 from them. Immediate appointments when I call in, always a loaner available, and always chit-chat with them about the brand. After the service I let them know how much I appreciate the attention and will let it be known in the survey, which I do. I may also send a quick email to the Service Manager letting him know they are doing a great job. I'm sure they appreciate this much more than if I gave them a tip.

I noticed you are in the Houston area. Mind letting me know where you bring your vehicle for service?
My experiences haven't been great where I go.

Thanks all for the advice. Only had the car for 4 weeks so far and in twice already for a nail in the tire and a cracked/broken taillight.

I've bought three cars with the same SA during the last few years. First car was a 2008 base CPO Boxster. Offered him a nice bottle of wine for helping me during the whole process. For the second, a new Macan S, a thank you card and a gift certificate for la local restaurant where he enjoyed bringing his wife. And finally, when I traded my first Boxster for a 2013 model (again CPO) another bottle of wine. Each time, he was very thankful for the gesture. I don't expect anything in return. It's a small token of my appreciation for his time and patience during each transaction.

To the OP: Do you live in NYC? For some reason, it is common to tip everyone you cross paths with who does not kill you in NYC. I'm just kidding...a little. But, no, I will not tip my service guy on this car or any other car I own. I will never own anything more expensive than this car and yes, I can afford a car much more expensive w/o going into debt. If someone goes above and beyond their normal job expectations, I will tip them. For example, my daughter was home from college over the holidays and her windshield on a Nissan has been really problematic and foggy during rain. We could not get it to remain clear during rain no matter what we tried. It had a film that we could not clear. I finally called Safelite to just put in a new windshield. The guy showed up early and refused to put in a new windshield. He insisted he had cleaning supplies that I could not buy that would clean her windshield. He was right and I gave him $50 for his effort. But a service guy who is just following procedure, nope, I will not tip. Even if this is a $200k GT3...especially if it cost that much. As a matter of fact, my sales rep has scored at least one additional sale because of me. He thanked me for my recommendation and that is enough for me.

Born in Buffalo, but a New Englander for the past 30+ years.
I know what you mean. In NYC the dirty water hot dog vendor expects a couple of bucks.

I always talk to the same SA for any service needed and he is really nice and always provided fantastic service. I drop him a Starbucks gift card during the holiday season as a token of my appreciation. Around $25 a year gets him a smile on his face and makes me feel good about it.

I tip them all . I even tip the people in the supermarket at holidays . I dont expect anything in return either . I view a tip as my way of showing appreciation .

A tip also will not give anything special because they have guidelines to follow and have no choice . All tipping does is make a person happy and I do feel they remember.

It never hurts to be nice to people but of course no one is obligated to tip.

Its not as though any person working in a Porsche outlet is on sub-minimum wage where the make up to a living wage is via tips.
They arrive to work at 8AM and often are there until 7 PM plus 1/2 day on Saturday . None of them can afford the cars they have dreamed of and work on. Their salary is a fraction of what a 911 owner pulls in . They don't make up the prices or see the profit in their pockets .

When you buy cars and spend time with them over the course of 15-20 years they get to know you and you get to know them . They do struggle far more than the lavish atmosphere that they work in .

You owe them nothing . They don't ask for a tip . If you don't give it won;t matter . If you do give though it ought to come from the heart .

I tip the paperboy around the holidays. He is always on time and double wraps my newspaper in plastic so it doesn't get wet during rain or snow (yes, I still read old fashioned newspapers). I always tip the guys who deliver pizza and Chinese food (and extra during inclement weather and if I am especially hungry and the food arrives hot). I tip the valet who parks my cars (and I am not afraid to valet my Macan). I tip the baggage handlers at the airport (mostly because I'm afraid my luggage may get lost if I don't).

I tip lots of deserving people, however, the thought of tipping the Porsche service folks never crossed my mind.

You didn't read it all? Well it was "do you tip your service advisor if he hands you and your spouse two tickets to Hamilton and prepaid dinner for two at Cipriani's"

:)

When picking up and my car after service and checking that things are in order....I ask the service advisor which tech worked on my car and if I had permission to walk back to thank him/her with a small gratuity. This gesture is always received with a big smile and a "thank you sir". HH Porsche is such a fine small dealership that I am sure this token has nothing to do with the high level of service but it makes me feel good!

Upon arriving to my first appt (10,000 mi service) I introduced myself and handed over a fresh strawberry pie with real whipped cream from 'The Hartville Kitchen', an iconic bakery in NE Ohio.
When I returned the rental to pick up my Macan I was greeted with dealership full of smiles!
Money well spent I believe.

The only time I tipped the SA is when he went beyond his job to get Porsche for pay for half of the repair when my 911 was out of warranty. He saved me hundreds and I tipped him $50
