I’m opening this thread to start discussion of a new CarPlay/AA system for PCM3.1 launched by Mr12Volt (www.Mr12volt.com).

PorscheDIY YouTube Channel (SUBSCRIBE!!): https://youtube.com/@porscheDIY

I pre-ordered the system and received it last week (one of the first shipments). Installation video:

Given that I have installed the Joye system, then Isudar/Ebilaen, and now Mr12volt, that puts me in a unique position to compare the three systems. Review Video:

UPDATE: Mr12Volt Boot Up Logo change and Factory Mic Hack

The main reason I was driven to the Mr12volt solution is because is the only retrofit system in the market that uses native MOST optical signal transport for audio. Other systems use a Digital to Analog conversion through the AUX input which degrades signal. Mr12volt preserves digital audio signal from source to output.

Yes, definitely it is , it did catch my attention that it contribute good sound quality which kept me interested. i used only carplay for my other mercedes which is a factory feature, so i wonder if this would deliver the same kind of quality ? i am not interested in video streaming and mirror cast stuff. Hope i can get some advise, sorry again if this i did not have the macan .

Today, I received the update file to replace the "Mr12Volt" logo at boot up. I chose to replace with a OEM Macan S logo. It now looks OEM... In the video below I also includes factory mic hack...

The procedure for installation, once you receive the file, replace the bootlogo file by the logo of interest in 800x480 resolution. It needs to be *.jpg. Then remove the *.jpg extension and save the raw file, along with the update file, into a USB drive (32GB or less formatted in DOS FAT16 or FAT32). Plug in the USB into system USB port, turn car on, and wait until update is complete.

A huge thank you to @Santirx for the install video and additional assistance! It made this absolutely doable but would have been almost impossible since there is not a good install manual with this especially since this is not "completely" plug and play - you have to rearrange the MOST harness just a bit (takes all of 20 seconds).
Trim panels remove extremely easily, install is fairly straight forward, routing cables to the passenger footwell was no big deal. This was an excellent supplemental video for the actual board install (see below)
Personally, the hardest part for me was not having standoffs ready to mount the board with XM intact, removing the CD player to get access to the board (there are small retention clips in there), making room with all the cables to get the PCM back in place and hiding the box - the cables are a tad too short.

Otherwise, seems to work flawlessly. Tapping lines for factory mic integration is a game changer. The built in EQ is a really nice feature - BTW Linear audio is still a usable option but bose "surround" is not - if that matters to anyone. To my surprise, Waze is way more integrated with Carplay now than it used to be - bonus!! Highly recommend this mod!
If anyone in CO needs help, hit me up.

Just installed my mr12volt. Broke a couple of vents but no biggie. I am however having this weird ticking noise in the audio. The noise is there regardless if I'm connected to Bluetooth or not. The noise goes off every 15 seconds from my tweeters. I do have the bose system. Any Ideas @Santirx ?

Also, do you guys have a recommended EQ for the mr12volt?
I have the same issue, it sounds a little like static or feedback.

Some have reported that issue. This is not happening with mine, it seems random. I first heard about it from @Don16. He contacted Mr12Volt and they sent a replacement that seemed to have the same issue. He can talk more about his findings.

Not sure what the problem is, but you should definitively contact mr12volt with the issue.

Just put in my new unit. I noticed that it had a newer firmware and a cleaner fiber cable. My old one looked pretty scuffed, so this time around I was extra careful how I handled it and put black tape to cover the connections just to prevent dust and scuffs. mr12volt should definitely provide fiber covers to prevent random situations. After reseating everything and replacing the orange MOST, blue box, and nav PCB, my audio-only clips occasionally lol. I also zip-tied the MOST connector on the blue box, but I am pretty sure the fiber cables are moving around behind the NAV.

I also noticed hissing coming from the unit/speakers if the audio is cranked with no music playing. There is no hissing without the mr12volt box; however, you will blow your ears out if you listen to music at that level. @Santirx I am considering putting in my Mosconi Aerospace 6 to 8 DSP, do you think it is worth it with the current bose speakers? What speakers do you recommend even after your massive audio overhaul?

If you have Bose, I would recommend changing (in this order) (1) subwoofer -- you could use same box with a shallow 8" sub... only a few specific shallow subs will fit; (2) center channel driver; (3) all tweeters; (4) two surround drivers. Everything else is fairly decent. If you wanted to change other speakers, maybe do the front mid range.

I liked Hertz, but ended up with Audiofrog GB series. Audiofrog is really good. But any quality speaker with treated paper cone preferably will be OK.

Hi everyone, many folks are reporting a random popping sound coming from speakers when mr12volt system is installed. I didn't have or noticed that issue on mine, until recently. I didn't use my car for two weeks, and when I turned car on after two weeks, I started hearing the popping sound on mine. This is not acceptable for such an expensive system. In mine, the popping sound is not noticeable at all while playing music, as the music mask the sound. The popping sound is volume dependent, so the popping volume level increases with increase in system volume, and when setting volume at listening levels (75-80dB) you can hear it but is not very loud.

I have written to them in WhatsApp asking how they are going to solve the issue. They replied. Below is my exchange...

I also recorded the popping sound. Keep in mind that this was recorded at a highest volume.

Consider this before you buy. I will continue to closely monitor the fix on this.

Thanks for all your hard work and great write ups & videos on this!

Just waiting for your feedback and hopefully confirmation of the resolution of the popping issue and I will be the next one to update his 2015 Macan to the 2022 media experience :)

Still testing @Teddis. I have not heard it as before, where you would hear the random pop, especially in more lower volume music or the gaps in between tracks.

At one point I thought that the upgrade was only masking the popping sound, and that is still there when music is being played (@Don16, who is also testing it, also suggest that). However, I can’t conclusively say (and I dont think @Don16 either) that this is the case, after much testing at normal hearing volume (even volume at higher range of my tolerance).

@Don16, looking forward to your 2nd opinion on this. My opinion on this is that it has been solved, but that’s my opinion so far…

I still need to do additional testing, and I’ll probably do that with pink noise. Maybe put my microphone in there and measure with REW to see if I can detect any hidden anomaly.

Ok after a week of testing, it is definitely NOT resolved for stock Bose system users. The popping is definitely reduced in terms of frequency of occurrence, but it does still go off. It’s like one every minute.

Kind of getting a little ticked off with this system because it seems like the root cause isn’t resolved, mr12volt just adjusted the dsp settings on their unit to mask the popping. @Santirx @Teddis

Based on your feedback and the feedback of @Don16 who also reports issue conclusively, I provided my feedback to Mr12volt who coincidently asked me today about the update….

I have a full aftermarket system, and it seems is playing better with mine, but there is something weird going on, especially when I set volumes at ridiculously high levels. But nothing noticeable at normal volume levels. Even with pink or white noise. I have not done testing with REW and my calibrated microphone yet. I want to do that to see if I pick up a peak at any frequency indicating pop is still there.
