Michelin Premier LTX - the best A/S out there?

Hey all,

I'm thinking about replacing my Goodyear summer tires (on 19") with a good set of A/S. I have summer tires on most my cars for most part of my driving history. To me, the performance edge of summer tires doesn't really shine in street driving and I don't appreciate how small bumps in road get passed to the cabin. I have a hot hatch for track day or AutoX. So I want my Macan S to should be a comfort (and fast ;)) cruiser.

Premier LTX looks like the latest successor of Michelin's Latitude Tour HP. It was ranked #1 in its category by TireRack, also has very good review and test result. Has anyone experienced these tires or think about it? Any other good replacement you would recommend?

My sister has this tire and she thinks it is a great tire (in general if compared to her OEM tire which I believed it's also Michelin but it's a Primacy MXV4). Mind you, her car is a Honda Pilot.

Not sure how this would do on a much higher performance orientated car, Macan.

I just put these tires on my wife's Highlander and so far I'm satisfied with them. Of course, that's a completely different vehicle than a Macan and even a different size tire, so it's not going to be a direct comparison.

We live in Seattle where we often deal with wet roads so the wet handling characteristics of this tire were a priority for me. So far it's quite and fairly responsive, although I wouldn't go so far as to call them 'sporty' - probably due to the additional sidewall the Highlander tire size requires.

Also keep in mind that the #1 ranking at Tire Rack is based on less than 200k reported miles, which is a very low sample size. I've noticed that you really need at least 1M reported miles for the user surveys to be really accurate since the tire dynamics change with usage.

I'll be happy to report back here once I have more miles on them.

Michelin Premier tires are ranked high. They are very good tires. But I don't think they are n-spec. If I were you, I'd get the appropriate N-spec tire for this SUV.

The "internet experts" will tell you to ignore Porsche. While its true you can put on anything you want, why would you buy an expensive car and then cheap out on the tires? IMO, get the n-specs.

Thanks for the input. I too a bit concern about putting A/S tires on a performance-oriented suv. But since comfort comes a little bit over performance here, A/S was my first thought.

However, there is Michelin Latitude Sports 3 out there, look great, designed for Macan, N-Specs, 20K warranty. I wish I could get these as OE, but I didn't. There's not much data point on how these tires perform, especially in terms of NVH comparing to A/S. For sure, I would go with Latitude Sports 3 if they give comfort and quiet ride on top of performance.
