Macan S fuel consumption

On Wednesday I had the pleasure to test drive Macan S for about 2 hours. After 1,5h I checked the average fuel consumption and I was shocked: 20.4 l/100km which is 11.53 miles/gallon with average speed 51km/h (32 mph).

Half of the ride was on the highway with speed ~130-170 km/h (80-105 mph), the other half was a city ride. I did 3 launch control starts and also went for max once. Nevertheless, the average fuel consumption is way over what I have expected.

I would love to hear from those who already received their Macans and what have they experienced.

OK guys just got my base Macan 13 days ago. My salesman said it would be in early July so long planned 2000 mile trip from Walnut Creek CA to Seattle and back was planned in my 2012 Audi A4 Quattro with 6 speed manual. Got a call on Mon. the 12th saying car was in and I could get it that evening or wait until end of month when I returned. A no-brainer decision to get the car though I just had 45 minutes of explanation on nav system and all the other features. I had to go back the next day for tutorial on the nav system (never had one in a car before) and then I left for the trip.

the trip up to Seattle and back ended this morning and my distance and gas usage was 1844 miles and 72.65 gallons, = 25.38 mpg. I never once used sport or even did manual shifting, just put it in gear and drove for hours. I drove 9 hours yesterday (including stops) for about 606 miles on I- 5 and used 23.2 gallons averaging 72 miles per hour per the computer- my longest day of driving. Love the car but now I have to start using the sport function and paddle shifting.

My big break was staying in Seattle with friends whose two cars are 2016 Cayenne and 2015 Carrera 4S cab. They sat me in the passenger seat and went thru most of the computer functions and showed my what setting would meet my needs.

I live on a small hill and it impacts mpg big time. 14.5 or so when having to go up and down on a regular basis. Take it to the flat roads and it climbs up to 18.5 or better. All highway average of 21-23 depending on weather traffic.
The secret when you live on a small hill is to occasionally go down. That will bring your mpg up.:D

Just got back from a Road Trip, Vancouver to Edmonton.
On the way home, averaged 10.7l/100km and 103kph. This was fuel fill up average, not the display.
This is on a 2015 S.
So 26.4 MPG Canadian or approx 22 mpg US gallons
Quite impressed.

Made a couple of trips to VT from Boston MetroWest - very hilly in MA and even more so in VT. Used the CC with
auto start/stop enabled. On the downhill runs, knocked the CC off and upshifted, allowing it to go to neutral.
Averaged 25+ MPG both ways.

In one section - from Ludlow, VT (Mt. Okemo) to route 91, averaged 27+ MPG since it wasn't as hilly - and that included
some multi-car sprint passes. Too many people on the twisties who evidently have experience only driving on
interstate highways - lack of knowledge/experience overtaking cars on two lane state roads, which creates 'parades'.

It goes from nobody wants/dates to pass to nobody can pass - because the line of cars gets too long and they drive all
bunched up. Short passing zones require focus and strict attention to tactics,

What model Macan was this in?
As for the passing: this is a New England quirk, where people evidently think that it's "impolite" to pass on a two-lane highway, and lots of New Englanders even get upset if you try to pass them. I moved to New England decades ago and observed this practice with amusement and frustration, both. People just don't pass on 2-lane roads in New England; everywhere else in the world, it's no problem.

I have had my 2018 Macan S for one month. I have been reading this forum since before I ordered. I know the auto start/stop is a topic of conversation. On my 2018 if I turn it off it stays off until I turn it back on. Even when turning the car off and on. I haven?t seen anyone else post this. Most say they have to turn it off every time.

Macan S Diesel, little over 16.000kms so far
avg 8,5l/100km on the PCM display (about 28mpg US)
avg 8,8l/100km calculated on traveled kms/fill up liters (about 27 mpg US)
mostly city driving with some occasional longer distance travels.

consumption can drop to a ridiculous 6l/100kms on a trip in fluid but slower highway trafic (39mpg Us)

Hypermiling?

When I was in Atlanta at PEC, our Porsche Pro mentioned some people managed to achieve significant mpg increase with hypermiling? I'm not interested in around town or on the 25% grade winding mountain road that we live on (an absolute blast to tear up!) .... but for long trips. And I don't want to use Auto Stop which cannot be good for the turbos. Wondering what the best mpg anyone on here has achieved with a Macan S? And what tips for hypermiling to achieve it can you give?

I get 14mpg in NYC traffic. I get 20-22mph on the highway. I have a decently heavy foot...

I don't care for great gas mileage. gas is at an all time low, and $50 to drive me 300 miles sounds like a good deal.

I definitely don't care about hypermiling. who does that? just walk...

Keep in mind that most who tell you what their MPG is, are using what the PCM screen tells them &

It.Is. Wrong.

LOL.

Only way to know is the simple pen & paper calculation that most can not or will not do.

See the MPG threads.

Excel works even better than pen and paper. I’ve tracked actual and PCM estimated mileage for both the Cayenne and Macan for 7 months now. If you plot actual vs estimated, both cars fall on the same trend line. The PCM estimate averages 1.1 mpg higher than actual on the Macan and 1.0 mpg higher on the Cayenne —- i.e. it reads 1 mpg high.

The standard deviation of the estimated-actual variation is about 0.3. This means the PCM reads anywhere from 0 to 2 mpg higher for any particular tank. Some of the difference for any one tank is related to when the pump shuts off each time (and how precisely it meters gas). In other words, there’s also some inaccuracy in the “actual” mpg.

But again, your PCM reads 1 mpg higher than what your wallet feels over the long haul. That’s all you need to know when you glance down at it. Enjoy the ride! Great cars.

18 S just breaking 600 miles. So far 21.9 hand calculated based on mileage and gallonage. That's 75% highway and 25% kind of rural roads. My other Macan (base) was averaging 24 for the over 22,000 miles driven.
