On Wednesday I had the pleasure to test drive Macan S for about 2 hours. After 1,5h I checked the average fuel consumption and I was shocked: 20.4 l/100km which is 11.53 miles/gallon with average speed 51km/h (32 mph).

Half of the ride was on the highway with speed ~130-170 km/h (80-105 mph), the other half was a city ride. I did 3 launch control starts and also went for max once. Nevertheless, the average fuel consumption is way over what I have expected.

I would love to hear from those who already received their Macans and what have they experienced.

Macan-S, first 600km or so, I'm getting a pathetic 13.8 mpg (17 l/100km). Almost all city driving, low speed, heavy traffic. Probably it will be better when I turn the Auto-Start/Stop thing back on (after the 3000km mark).

So this is the second calculated tank on the Macan GTS, this time mostly in Sport mode, 317miles, 17.519 gallons, 18.1mpg. This was much more spirited driving including trying to run down a 911 turbo, although I imagine myself a relatively tame driver overall. The highway miles help me for sure, although I'm mostly doing 80 on the highway(78 on the GPS). Way better than I expected on the GTS.

I took a 400 mile trip today from SF to North Tahoe and back. In normal mode in my 2017 Macan S, here is what I saw....in the flat first part, at 75 to 84 (oops) mph, mpg was a little above 24. After climbing up to 7000 feet for the last 60 miles, average mpg dropped to below 21 mpg. Admittedly I used paddle shifting down 1 or 2 gears to keep things moving!

On the way back, mpg improved back to overall of 23.8 mpg for the trip. This is better than my Subaru Outback used to get on this journey. Speed averaged 68 mph for the day. Starting mileage was 500, so still a new car. I was happy to avoid a ticket, many CHP out today.

For the first 500 miles, most driving was around town so mpg not very good and not monitored.

2017 S delivered 2/3/17 with 4900 miles as of today. Mostly smaller town and highway. Not a lot of traffic. Mostly over 7k feet elevation. Mostly hilly.

Hand-calculated average - 19.83 (Fuelio app). That's a pretty typical number for tanks with mixed driving.
- Included are 3 longer trips with ski rack and skis and 2 partial tanks pulling a utility trailer (1300 lbs max) and one full tank with utility trailer (1300 lbs max). Utility trailer generally carries two dirt bikes.

Worst tank - 16.28 mpg with trailer and two dirt bikes, mostly highway/interstate (59 mph avg speed). Tows very well.
Best tanks are hovering at around 22.3 mpg in mixed driving but more highway. I'm surprised that's not higher.

2015 Turbo

Semi-rural suburban driving 23-24 mpg
suburbs shopping stop and go driving 19mpg

overall average around 21 mpg; not bad as I expected worse.

used to driving hybrid cars so the technique probably helps. I am not in boost mode and do not drive with a lead foot. Without being in boost, there is still in excess of 300 hp which is enough to motivate the macan.

2017 Base. About 3 months now. The trip computer consistently over estimates consumption by about 2 mpg (more on this later). I write down the miles since last fill-up on the receipt, then plug the numbers into a spreadsheet (yes, anal, I know).

23.28 mpg Avg
20.92 mpg worst tank
27.15 mpg best tank

There is only ethanol laced fuel in my area (can get non-ethanol fuel when I travel upstate), so I wonder if the ethanol is causing the actual consumption being worse than the trip computer. I observed the same pattern in my Audi. OR... are the gas stations giving less fuel than what they're saying?!?!
