I've seen the process during a manufacturing video. It's real wood all right. No question about it.

As for mahogany, nothing wrong with it in a sports car. I had it in my former Turbo and liked it. it was a very nice tone, color and grain, not too dark at all. I had the mahogany steering wheel also but wasn't a fan of it. It was not, however, the least bit slippery.

I now have CF and love it. And an all leather wheel.

I really like the alcantara wheel they finally offer on the Macan. I kind of like alcantara seats but would never do without cooled seats.

Why oh why do they not offer cooling on alcantara? If they can perforate leather, they can perforate alcantara.

We have the dark walnut with our two tone Luxor Beige / Dark Brown leather and we love it. I think it's handsome and classy, and does not Affect the performance of the vehicle! Not one person said anything negative but all comments were positive. Again, it's personal preference but we have no regrets. Best of luck to you!

They can't perforate it because Alcantara is a micro suede which is basically a sueded fabric albeit a higher quality one but a fabric nonetheless . Fabric would fray.

I have to disagree, for reason; my current A6 S-Line has perforated alcantara seats.

Heard in Leipzig:

"Mein Gott, Klaus!! Dieser Amerikaner hat holz in einem Sportwagen gestellt! Nein! Nein! Nein!"

@Rauch0 I honestly think you can do black leather and black brushed aluminum.

But just know that Porsche's black leather isn't really deep deep black. It looks more like charcoal to me. It's very nice and not too dark.
I agree. Love the brushed aluminum in black and would get that. I have the std black interior w/CF trim and think it looks awesome.

Well, one could think the guy had either a tree in his car, mahogany trim or he was really " excited " to be driving ;)

I have it on good authority that's it's actually fake crab meat, dyed to look like walnut. Some shell pieces left in to attach to the dash. Looks great, smells funny.
That's good to know. If I ever get stranded in the wilderness I can eat my steering wheel and walnut trim. Until then I'll just enjoy looking at them and the feel of the wheel. I've previously had walnut wheels in a Jaguar, Triumph and Fiat and there is nothing like it.

@Rauch0 : I have the walnut trim in my S. I went for a classic look in browns that I like. That said, I am not sure how much the walnut trim varies in darkness, but mine is so dark the wood grain is only noticeable in bright sunlight (not often here in the Seattle area this time of year) and it might as well be "piano almost-black." I don't think I'd recommend it in your build (GTS, black interior), but it is definitely a matter of personal taste.

We have a Macan S with Agate Grey leather interior (actually, kind of brownish) with the Walnut interior and we like it a lot. The Walnut is darker than the leather, but they complement each other well. Also from the Seattle area, I agree that the Walnut is darker, but in our case we don't think it looks black and we can easily see the grain. Maybe the contrast with the leather helps in this regard. In our case, we own a cabinet factory and love the look of natural wood, period. It pleases us. If others make a value judgment of us based on our Macan's wood trim, we'll just settle it on the autocross course and see if it really affects performance.

Choose what you like. There are plenty of sports cars with wood trim, dashes, steering wheels. I have walnut on black leather and to echo a couple others, the walnut is very dark and does not ever look like it did in the page one photos. The thin strips of aluminum that all Macans have are far more noticeable than the trim you're choosing.
