I just think people are over being the EV "jerks" that want to drag race off every traffic light. I can say without fail that if a Model 3 dual motor is next to me at a traffic light, 75% of the time they will "haul ass" off the line. Has anyone thought of the insanity of giving Teslas to Joe and Jane Public with 450+HP at the twitch of a foot? There is a lot of push back in Europe now against pointless 0-60 times of EV's. The novelty has worn off and people just don't see any positives in spending $10-$20K more for an EV that does the job of an ICE vehicle but with a lot less convenience given the parlous state of US charging infrastructure. We will see if Audi and Porsche can convince people to buy the Q6 or e-Macan. I'll bet there are some very nervous execs at VAG.

Your point is a good one. Auto insurance premiums on EV are higher than ice cars due the higher price of EV both to buy and repair compared to ice and higher accident rates with EV, probably for the reason you mention. Auto makers selling EV push the acceleration times to try to appeal to the traditional auto enthusiasts. The excitement of quicker acceleration is, I imagine, offset by reduced range resulting from rapid acceleration. In my view a smart move for an auto maker, at least in the U.S., would be to offer a choice of power options, ice, hybrid and EV, until this is sorted out, which could take decades.

Motion options (ICE, EV, hybrid) are already being done by several vehicle manufacturers. As far as marketing, you think those that bought a Dodge TRex truck that gets 8mpg are reconsidering right about now? Same goes for BIG SUV’s that seat 60 brats in the back. The thread right below this one speaks to 40% would not buy another EV. That potentially leaves 60% that might. It’s a choice we will/have made over time.

Back in June, I had the good fortune to review the Macan EV Turbo in person and give it a test drive (Porsche Center, Los Angeles). To say that I was impressed with the performance and handling of the car would be an understatement. It's a fantastic piece of machinery. Furthermore, I think the design is a really nice progression of the current ICE version. I placed my order and I look forward to receiving it before the end of the year.

Ford has cut Lightning Production . I have a friend who loves his and will outright admit that his household must have ICE cars too . The vehicle is not popular and the F150 is still the truck they want .

An article popped up on my Home Screen . This EV Mercedes had not been charged for days and just burst into flames causing damage to over a 100 cars and hospitalized 23 people (smoke inhalation ) . I cant imagine parking one of these vehicles inside my garage . https://insideevs.com/news/729196/mercedes-eqe-korea-fire-underground/

I realize it's not an everyday event but when an EV fire goes wrong it really wreaks havoc .

I wonder how these cases will influence economic decisions going forward. Drowning cargo ships on fire, burning car fleets in garages… Imagine fires in long tunnels (Switzerland has got a few of those). Who will pay the damage and which insurance will cover at what cost? One question is already answered: residual value: nobody wants to buy a used EV ⬇ You don’t only buy other people’s problems, you also buy a ticking time bomb, it seems.

Never argue with a zealot. Some are totally convinced that the benefit far outweighs these minor details.

he's our typical larrikan aussie media type who at times goes OTT but he's on the money re EV's here.
Recently sales of hybrids have gone off the roof.
RAV4 hybrid no1 in July sales.
People are waking up here buying more ICE/Hybrids.
The EV growth has been stunted atm, Tesla sales have tanked, the chinese EV invasion will hang on purely based on cheaper price.
Gov is having to push back its NVES mantra

We like many countries are way behind to support EV charging around this vast country whereas the Green influenced Gov is appeasing to a % of its voters and its coming unstuck.

Yes, 83 l drivable in the Macan, although exceeding unmanned gas stations' credit card and pump timer limits regularly...

...moved my collection of Makita Lithium-Ion garden batteries (getting rather hot during operation) including charger from my unsecured basement to the fireproof boiler room recently after reading about burning and exploding bicycle batteries and witnessing how my wife's recent Dell internal laptop battery grew thick, already ripping the bottom shell apart...
