I’m happy to be on my own after 4 years, with no permitted reduction in horsepower or torque during the 4 years and zero or near zero reduction long afterwards with routine maintenance. I’ll take that any day of the week versus a warranty permitted 20% reduction in the highly advertised horsepower, torque and range in a new EV car as I drive it home from the dealer.
Missing my point which is OK but let me answer a few things that I know and is true for either EV or ICE, out of warranty you are on your own so the longer that cover is there the better for you no matter what that is. If you blow the engine a replacement if new £20K, new PDK similar money and the reason I know this is a friend’s Q5 DSG box gave up a few years ago and cost £15K to replace back then. If a battery pack goes outside of warranty it too is mega bucks so the longer the warranty on that the better.

I have said this numerous times and I will repeat it, at present an EV isn’t for everyone you really have to tick all the boxes of not doing excessive miles per day, only occasional long journeys, have another ICE to fall back on if a very long journey is something you do regularly and the final one in my opinion the most important is being able to home charge, only if all are ticked would I consider an EV but if you can tick all boxes I would seriously go and drive one for a weekend because I think you will be very pleasantly surprised by the experience.

The amount of EV owners I know which is ever increasing and all of them wouldn’t go back says something about the driving and ownership experience.

I classed myself as a proper petrol head and owning a gas station though not a major part of my business I should be pro ICE but I absolutely love driving an EV and wouldn’t go back.

It seems that even Porsche themselves have serious doubts about the change to EV cars.

I agree and the reason I agree is the infrastructure isn’t in place to stop ICE but fossil fuel is coming to an end and this is the reason why there’s a serious push towards synthetic fuel and for ICE cars that’s the future. But ultimately in the future we have to have multiple options, EV, Synthetic and Hydrogen.

I do believe I got your point. It’s one or the other, and I explained why I’d take the shorter warranty period on an ice engine. You disagree, that’s fine of course. Look, ice cars have been around for a long time, people have experience with them so they know what to expect. Also, many people who buy these cars are very interested in the hp and torque, 0 to 60, quarter mile, etc. Knowing that the manufacturer will not stand by those kinds of sexy numbers that they throw front and center in their advertising is a big red flag, and borderline bad faith in my opinion. Most people do not read the warranty line for boring line before they buy. I do agree EV cars are not for everyone but others shouldn’t try to make it so.

If 'fossil fuel is coming to an end' then why has Mr Sunak just given his wife and her friends hundreds of new licences to extract fossil fuels in the UK ???

I watched the launch and pretty much what I expected, more cost, more weight. I was pleased with the battery/range and hope they put the tech in the new Taycans. I won’t be buying one, but if I did buy an EV it would be a Taycan (older) when they get to realistic prices, but it would be my third vehicle behind two ICE Porsches 😀
The prices of used Taycans are already incredibly realistic. This one is 2 years old with low miles....available for half what it cost new.

@4ndy I was going to post this in your other thread about your SA and UK sales, but since you also brought it up here

Porsche reports to Autocar that they will CONTINUE to sell ICE Macans in the UK through 2024 and NOT turn them off along with the EU. They are just complying with the EU Law. Meanwhile, ICE production will continue through 2025 at Leipzig for ROW.

We all know that date can easily change if sales bomb. Stockholders will not put up with killing a cash cow.

If anyone remembers, PAG sold EU cars and US cars with because the EU cars did not meet US Safety Standards. Those safety standards were the reasons we did not get the cool cars like the 959.

The new Macan EV is like the Taycan and Cayenne had a child. Some will like its looks others won’t, I prefer its exterior to that of the old Macan which was frankly looking very dated, this is much cleaner and modern looking. The interior I am less convinced because it’s too traditional and in keeping with the old car, you look at all the new EVs hitting the market and this already looks dated inside but this is me speaking without actually sitting inside it.
A lot of people don't seem to understand that when it comes to Porsches, "dated" is a feature, not a bug.

Customers who like to follow design trends -- or to set them -- have many other options in the marketplace.

I really don't know who to believe anymore. My local UK Porsche centre are still saying that they will not be selling any ICE Macans after April 2024. Maybe this is just a ploy to try and sell some of the many EVs they will need to shift?

I don’t agree with push towards and the banning of ICE cars but I don’t understand the reasoning behind it and like I have already said it’s not climate reasons.

I wasn’t disagreeing about the warranty thing I was only explaining that when you are talking about a Porsche you aren’t handing it to any Tom, Dick or Harry to work on it if and when it fails and when they do it’s much more expensive to repair than your Ford or GM, when it’s a more serious failure like a gearbox which can and do happen then the bill is a sizeable one so in my opinion warranty is important and one of the reasons why I never keep a car longer than the warranty. It’s another reason when I lean more towards leasing or PCP because you know the amount it’s going to cost during a fixed period and you simply walk away at the end, this I think is even more important with an EV than an ICE car because the technology is ever improving and will do so at an alarming rate.

But I still think it’s exciting times ahead for the motoring industry and the consumer because we will soon have multiple options to choose from.

You look at the 911 through the years and you can see the evolution rather than revolution but you also see on each occasion the design is cleaning and more modern than the one it replaces, externally this is true for the Macan IMO. On the inside (I feel again a personal thing) I think they had an opportunity to be innovative but picked the a very traditional design, they know their customer much better than I so I am sure they are right and I am wrong but I reckon when we see the Q6 E-Tron along side the Macan it will be the Porsche that will look dated to some.

Styling could be subjective depends on personal preference. To be fair, there are some design elements from Taycan and Macan EV are nice, and would not mind to get them integrated into future model release. That's why some potential Panamera buyers had immediate attachment to Taycan's overall styling upon launch. The new Macan EV side profile had a bit of VW Corrado vibe, surely people who loved the VW Corrado may prefer the new profile interpretation.

Let's suppose this Macan EV style has been released as ICE Macan in first year model (back in 2014, MY2014), then now release the current ICE Macan style as the new trend (MY2025), people would still feel the newly released Macan EV style is dated. It's like jeans, already lost track of how many times the trends have repeated through out the course! Porsche is usually good at building car that tests against time, which ever the design, it needs to be timeless! The current ICE Macan style falls into that category every time we see one on the road. Even if we go to Porsche Configuration website, build a new one, it still feels modern vintage. It's kind of BMW E46 feel.
You mentioned BMW and if there is ever a brand who keeps reinventing their design it’s them and so many fans of the brand are in uproar, the perfect example is my i4/4series with its grill. I absolutely hated it with a passion when it was released and yet as time when by and I continued to see more and more on the streets I didn’t mind it that much anymore and now I own one. Is it their best design **** no but it’s not their worst IMO.

Porsche know their customer base better than anyone and I don’t doubt they have got this one right both inside and out, sure some will dislike it to begin with that’s normal but over time we will all come round. We are creatures of habit and absolutely hate change, something that EV is and the fact it’s not a gradual thing but something that appears to being forced makes it a more bitter pill to swallow.

You don’t have to believe me but I am telling you the days of those big oil fields are long gone. Why do you think UAE, Saudi etc are all diversifying into tourism because it’s coming to an end, I am not saying in the next ten or twenty years but within this century we will see that happen.

Maybe Porsche UK are deciding to stop sales of the ICE Macan?

Until April comes and goes will we know for sure.

I couldn’t agree more. My 2015 Macan S looks almost identical the new ones. My wife’s 2024 X7 will look obsolete in 6 months. BMW and Audi are absolutely disgusting in making changes to their models.

Porsche aren’t a brand that likes to make much of a change over the years, let’s face it they doggedly stuck with the 911’s rear engine design despite it being a handling death trap, instead they slowly perfecting it over the years into one of the finest handling cars on the road. So sticking to a design idea is something that comes natural to them.

What we are witnessing with the Macan is not about Porsche and its ability to design highly desirable vehicles, or simply abandoning its unparalleled approach to model evolution. . . it is about legislation with Porsche ‘stuck’ between the legislators and consumers.

The consumers – better known as WE THE PEOPLE – will ultimately dictate the legislators, legislation, and the market.

I am giving Porsche the benefit of the doubt by stating they are ‘stuck’ . . . Porsche will have the chance to prove me right or wrong when ‘drill baby drill’ is soon broadcast across the land.

I just placed an order for a Macan Turbo. ETA July. The total price was about 131k.

long store short, my 2021 macan was totaled.
but honestly, I was over paying $100/tank of gas in that little 4 banger.

I had an amg eqe suv ordered with an msrp of 120k, planned to lease it and the dealer was going to give me 20k off the car. Turns out the car was damaged during delivery and I had to reject it. Glad I did because the macan EV didn’t take as long as I had thought.

Really looking forward to the EV, I plan to charge at home. I really can’t stand seeing all the EV’s charging in a parking lot.

$100/tank? 😳 Where do you live? I just paid $2.899/gallon for 92 octane. Tank capacity is 17.1 gallons so that is less than $50/tank.
