I know you are new here but do you know the target demographics for the Macan? It goes back to 2013, was published, and quoted here, you just got to search. The targets were DINKS (Double Income, No KidsS) and empty nesters.

If you really read closely many of the discussions, while I espouse the actual functionality of a CUV, that is to haul cargo and people, and softroading, many here, from Day 1, back in May, 2014 with the first deliveries in the USA, view it as a sports sedan, or a substitute for a sports sedan. Some come from BMW sedans, M3s and the like.

So while I believe the Macan's function as a CUV, that is exactly what I did, had a deposit down on a Turbo and dumped it for a 911. ;) I know an another did that too. Once the cost gets to a certain point, the leap is not all that much more.

New here does not mean I am naive to purchasing cars, have been doin that for almost 40 years and having been around Porsches for more than 25 years. I have owned 2 seaters sports cars, saloons, estates and SUVs but at each point that decision was determined by circumstance but on each of those occasions I never considered a cross purchased to such extremes as a sports car or an SUV. Maybe it’s an America thing this considering huge differences between style/types of vehicles.

At the time the brother bought his Taycan he consider a 911 4S, for him a single man I could see this as a logical decision between each, in the end the financial benefits of the Taycan won out.

For me as someone who suffers back problems the move to an SUV is more a necessity than anything else but on the rare occasions I want a sports car and a petrol engine with a manual box I have my wee Boxster.

Some interesting stuff in the Porsche EV technical pages, which few people probably read.

A few examples:

"The maximum drive power of an all-electric vehicle is contingent on different factors compared to the maximum drive power of a combustion engine."

"With respect to Launch Control ... the measurement starts as soon as the vehicle accelerates under full load."

"The actual available drive power may be considerably lower than the maximum performance drive power measured on the test stand."

I was Right when everyone said i was crazy that a base macan EV With a few options would be $110,000 after taxes and delivery fees. Porsche is going to lose a lot of customers because their entry level vehicle is 6 figures now. I was at the dealer yesterday and was talking with the sales manager and he agreed that MOST not all but most of the people who buy the Macsn EV will be tesla owners who never owned a Porsche before.

Cause some of us own more than one car?
before I had a kid, 8 years ago I had a base Cayman then Cayman R while my wife drove a Cayenne. it is not uncommon for a sports car and suv in in a single family if they like the Porsche brand. We first started out with the Cayman Because I went through what wife likes to call a mid life crisis when my dad died. Shortly after I bought the cayman the redesigned cayenne came out and the dealer showed the info to my wife and she decided to put put herself on the waiting list and we got one of the first allocations in 2011.

Configurator US says
base 4
Curb weight 5,247 lb
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) 6,437 lb
turbo
Curb weight 5,393 lb
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) 6,504 lb
Wow that shocked me, it’s only 50KGs lighter than the Lotus Eletre which is 11” longer and I believe 1.5” wider plus it’s got bigger battery at 112KW battery.

I was expecting it to weigh the same as the Taycan, thinking newer tech would yield weight savings but it appears not to be. That said they clearly have made improvements to the tech because despite its weight it’s quite a bit more economical.

FWIW, I have heard the same thing for Taycans. The early adopters, for the most part, were just Tesla buyers looking to move on, or up. I suspect the same thing will hold true for the Macan, that is, early adopters on the EV bandwagon looking to move up to a pcar, will be the early adopters of this vehicle in the US. Its easy to see here there are already new members doing exactly that so at least to a degree, this is happening.

I would agree most potential Macan EV buyers probably will have already owned an EV either at the time or in the past, especially so in the US which will be a much trickier market for reasons already mentioned earlier.

Else where in the world I think it will be an easier sell for Porsche, definitely true in Asia where EV is gathering pace at an impressive rate, but at the same time the amount of new brands coming out of China especially is quite shocking and even more shocking is just how good some of these are.

Here in the UK I am surprised just how well specced the Macan EV is compared to the previous car and other Porsches in general, sure you could rack up the options into multiple thousands but in all honesty you could just as easily live with a basic car and not feel short changed, very un-Porsche like.

Given the pricing of the Macan EV in the US, it seems the S will slot right in between the 4 and Turbo. And perhaps when the GTS is ready, the price of the Turbo goes even higher so that it can be right above the S - yikes.

At this point, my mind is having a hard time with any six figure (or close to it) EV. While it maybe wasn't so true in the past when Teslas first hit the market, I tend to think in 2-3 years given where we're at, many of today's EV will be outdated due to advancements in battery tech.

I also keep thinking iPhone on wheels. At some point, the tech will get so good that getting that next gen really doesn't give you the much more, so staying w the current for a few years is just fine. For better or worse, I think we're still far away from that point in EVs as a whole, but the stated range of the Macan EV is encouraging.

My current GTS is nearing three YO (March) so have been looking at options. Wasn't really thinking electric but have been eagerly awaiting this launch as it had ticked enough boxes for me re range, looks etc. I like the colour options - mainly because it includes the Aventurine Green. So, have done some configuring to compare some pricing:
FWIW my existing GTS originally priced on config @ $153k drive away (including taxes etc). Obviously the GTS has been upgraded since then.
Note, I didn't go light with options on any of the specs.
Taycan 4S CT = $260k
New Macan Turbo = $218k
Macan GTS in PTS = $202k (PTS is an $18k option!)
Macan GTS in Carmine = $189k

Any way you configure these, they are bloody expensive but we know that going in.

At this stage I'm hoping for a release of a special last ever ICE Macan before they stop selling them here in the next 6 months or so and will probably jump on that. For those who've been around Porsche longer what are the odds of this happening?

I have no problem with the car. I have a big problem with having the choice taken from us. Porsche will be doomed in the NA market . . .

I don’t believe this is Porsche‘s fault. They are victims as well but they have a lot of money and they could’ve fought this. I think the Volkswagen diesel scandal took a lot of wind out of their sale, going into any kind of legislative battle.
Ultimately, consumers will dictate the market, not legislators. . . the consumer is already speaking and the volume will continue to be turned up . . . hard pass on EVs

99.9% certain for the 911, such as EOL 991 Speedster asking big money

pretty sure the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0, 600 built, was too

Cant say about the Macan because its one of the 4 door Porsches so 🤷‍♂️

I don’t think it looks too bad. Looks a heck of a lot better than the spy photos. And 600+ hp. If I ever decided to take the EV plunge, this would be on the short list.

More ranting thoughts. :)
Been playing with the buggy configurator. How hard is it to get that up and running somewhat well by launch day btw...?
I've come to the conclusion that Porsche wants to sell the turbo only. The base 4 nice enough equipped is >$100K.
The turbo to me is difficult to configure past $120K with all I'd need. And then you have a quick 0-60 Macan at least.
Possibly handles well too. I'll test drive one when available...
The base 4 EV Macan is slower than my '23 Audi SQ5 0-60. Which honestly is pretty pathetic for any EV.
Who needs the supposedly coming trim base 2 or a 4S? They are all over the place with trim levels.
At that price point just do a EV turbo Macan add a turbo S with 750 HP at some pint and call it a day really.

I used to think exactly as you do. I thought this was the type of vehicle for a working person to use in a job. The first time I saw a neighbor in a suit who was an attorney going to work in one of these trucks. I thought he was delusional. That was about 20 years ago.

What I’ve learned over the course of time is that there are a lot of guys who like to do manual labor type of work on their weekend. Don’t ask me why because you will never see me at Home Depot. They enjoy this and a truck gives them that opportunity .

Recently I saw three out of seven of the lifeguards at the pool where I swim purchase a truck. They are young. All of them like to be able to tow things, haul items, and feel like they have no limitations on their space.

The last reason is something also foreign to me. People who have a boat also get a truck to tow the boat . In my opinion, this is a double whammy . First, I would never buy a boat. I live in a place where boating is huge. Second, if I did buy a boat, I would park it at a marina and have it maintained there . I believe that people bring a boat to their house enjoy the act of parading their boat into their neighborhood. It is ridiculous ostentatiousness and they get a big giant truck to do it.

I have a friend who after several ice trucks. Bought the Ford lightning. It’s an EV truck that is capable of acting like a home generator in a blackout. He bought the home integration system. He also has solar panels. he does like having an ice car in his house, but also likes using the electric vehicles too.

I would never buy a truck. I’m not looking forward to electric vehicles either. I look at them Macan, like it was a beautiful SUV that set the standard for an entire segment that is now being ruined with this electric legislative force feeding. I see an enormous amount of brainwashing in a culture that somehow believes they are going to save the universe by doing this, when, in fact, he’s probably gonna get just as polluted as ever just to make these things, as well as the infrastructure to do it. Just like I don’t understand a giant truck. I also don’t understand this pressure applied to taking away the choice. .
Excellent insights on truck owners. A lot of it sounds like they like trucks because it's a man's thing that allows them to live a man's life, even if that's just on weekends or towing a boat around.

On the pollution point, check out the infographic I posted here. EVs aren't going to save the world but they will contribute to reducing overall pollution, with the added benefit of further reduction of pollution as infrastructure gets cleaned up as well. Beats tailpipe emissions. Off topic but I am under the impression that business/corporations are the biggest consumers and polluters.
