License Plate Frames

I thought I'd start a thread on license plate frame options. I think one or two people have pictures of their Macans with license frames installed. But, I don't know if they got a genuine Porsche, or aftermarket, or which one. For example I can't find one on the Porsche site that is specifically listed for the Macan. Will one of Porsche's generic frames that just says "Porsche" work? Do people know of good quality frames that say nothing? Maybe just a simple chrome or black frame will do. I just want to move beyond the bare license plate screwed to the car and am wondering what others have found.

I've yet to find a plate frame I like for me yet. (although that PCA on @afritze22 posted is tempting)

So for now I just mounted a black plate frame upside down behind the plate. The sides of the frame cover the edge of the plate all around and I think it finishes the edge of the plate nicely to match the black part of the bumper.

Got this carbon fiber one - looks nice on JetBlack.
Thin, light, and does not call the attention to itself as some heavy ones.

I was about to order the aluminum billet frame from weathertec. Looks beautiful and super high quality.

Until I saw they put their name on it. Absurd. I'm going to pay $150 for a beautiful frame to advertise their name? I don't think so. Too bad. Great videos on their manufacture too.

Maybe they will make them without their name. I'll have to call them tomorrow when they reopen.

I have been on a search for frames, either black or carbon fiber with "TURBO" written on the bottom. I have found them in black, a real cheaply made copy of the original Porsche ones. Anyone ever see these?

This is the black plate surround from the Porsche dealer. These are not the screws that came with it, I just used these temporarily. The original screws have black covers to hide the hardware.

I picked up a brushed stainless steel plate that says Macan from my Porsche dealer. Check with your local dealer they did not have mine on display but when I talked to the parts guy he offed it up. I also like that the brushed stainless matches the exhaust tips as well!

I put the Skene mount on the front of my Macan because the tickets are too costly. If you like the pictures of the install and the finished product on in the forum under Skene

Well, Weather Tech just lost a sale.

That Billet License plate frame is right up my alley. I like well made beefy items. But I just spoke to them and they only make it with their logo emblazoned on the bottom.

Really, Weather Tech? I should pay $150 to advertise for you? I don't even let my dealer display their name on the back of my car, I should be a roving billboard for Weather Tech?

I'm willing to bet that they either don't sell many, or those they do sell, at least half the folks who buy them don't see their name on them at time of purchase.

Agreed, that is absurd. I'm looking for something now, as my plates came in, and when I went to put my old frame on, I noticed some rust. Which is disappointing, as I really liked it.

Slightly OT here but relevant to OP. I will have a license plate in the rear and wondering what owners are doing to protect paint scratching. I am thinking of putting some foam-like material running behind either:
1) directly on the back side of the license plate
2) directly on the back side of the license plate frame

Just wondering...Not sure if I am going too crazy with little things like this but I want to protect any components if I can.

Same as yours, high gloss black.

If I could figure how to paint the rear model designation black, everything would be consistent, black or white. :)

[I don't want plasti dip, I actually want to paint them black]

After looking at everything online, decided to go with the slim-line carbon fiber frame offered by BMW. They have two types.....a CF-look printed on stainless, and real CF. The two bimmer dealerships near me didn't have the real CF in stock, but could get it in a day or two from their regional warehouse. After looking at the printed one, went for the real thing instead. A bit expensive, but nice quality, and I could see it first hand before buying it.

so after ordering the cf frame, I got a call from the sheepskin outlet, real nice guy, to notify me they don't have the four hole cf frame any longer and don't expect to get it in any time soon.

I ordered the black powder coat and used the balance toward Lloyd plush mats. :)
