I have the launch control in my car but how on earth do I use it, I read the manual but doesn't seem to work. What am I missing? Also when you use launch control i presume you have to try and time it to the timings of the light ie activate it a few secs before you suspect the lights will turn green. more importantly when activated how do you deactivate it (in case you see a cop ;) )

1. Press the brake with your left foot.
2. Quickly press the accelerator down fully (kick down activated) and hold it.
The engine speed will level off at around 5,000 rpm. “Launch Control activated” is displayed on the onboard computer.
3. Release the brake within a few seconds. Remaining stationary for a long time with LAUNCH

Come on guys.... critical thinking is what separates us from the repu....uhhh, lower life forms. Do you really think repeated LC is “ good” for your car, or doesn't stress it? What does your brain tell you?

Do you actually understand what critical thinking ....is?

Please provide your evidence that repeated LC damages a Porsche.

Any kind of hard driving is going to be harder on a car than cruising at a steady 50 mph (80kph for our friends outside the us). But if you aren’t ever going to drive it like you stole it, why buy a Porsche?

But a Macan is also not a 911. I don’t think I’d want to test 50 launches in a row in mine, but someone else definitely should and report back.

Also just because a 911 can do it doesn‘t mean it’s not going to reduce the life of several components (tires are a given).

The LC is especially brutal, un-clutching at 5k rpms while the wheels are stopped. One can't do that during an aggressive driving (only on a launch). Which I do, on narrow curvy roads in the Swiss mountains; I think I posted enough videos in this forum :)

New GTS, w Sport Chrono, about 5 days old now.

I tried LC for the 1st time this weekend, and it did not work.
What I did was: Sport +, left foot brake, right foot throttle...and I was expecting the rev's to level out so I could release the brake, but what happened is that quickly the engine seemed connected still to the drive train because the engine overcame the force of the applied brake and the car started to creep/move forward...so I released the brake and I kinda took off like normal.

I was not expecting this based on reviews and videos. Its like the sport + didn't trigger Launch Control mode or something like that? If I recall, I did still have traction control engaged, but I don't recall reading in the manual that you had to turn that off.

Any insight?

@DanNYC : that sounds like the PM-LC and i've read this nice thread about it that I thought I'd share

in particular, this post by MilanS:

Porsche has built the PDK for Launch Control, but you need the specific software to control it: SportCrono. Without this control applied during a brake launching, the clutch is overcharged.

...and this PMLC procedure posted there by Sly_North:

The Sport Chrono package, aka the Sport+ button is NOT required for using the "hidden" launch control.
What's needed is:
1) get the engine to temperature - in the middle of the gauge.
2) Sport mode active if one doesn't have Sport+, Sport+ otherwise.
3) floor the brakes.
4) floor the accelerator. You'll get the same 5000 rpms as the real LC.
5) release the brakes, wthout moving your foot on the accelerator (raising just a bit the accelerator will cancel it, and the accelerator will fight against the brakes).
6) Enjoy.

The real LC will give a bit more pre-boost and the launch message in the multi-function display.

And as other said: the Macan PDK is not the 911 PDK, it's an updated Audi DL501. It can take a few tens of launches, not an infinite number of it.

In it is noted that without the software control provided
by the Sport Plus option, during a brake launch (non-Sport Chrono), the clutch would be overcharged.
It means the clutch is in the middle of a fight between the engine and the brakes: it would wear the clutch much faster than normal use.

In my experience, it's not: the clutch is not engaged during the "cheap" Sport mode LC if properly done (like in the real Sport+ LC if one has this).
The difference is very obvious between doing the cheap launch, with the left foot floored on the brake pedal, and just "pre-torquing" by having the left foot slightly on the brakes, or not flooring the accelerator: one can then feel the engine trying to push the car.

EDIT - but either way (cheap LC or Sport+ LC), LC is not that useful.

My first Post and its different. I bought my 2017 Macan S Dec 2019, wanting to know everything about it, I was going through and trying everything. Then I saw "Launch Control" on line users explained how they thought it worked. after a few tries I thought I had it. I did not have a "Sport+" button but I did see the Green Launch on my dashboard. the engine was up near 7k (didn't take time to know exactly, didn't like rev that much) I squeezed the paddle and it flew. There definitely was no "pre-torquing" no pull on the car what so ever. I tried again 2 weeks later with my son in the car and again worked great, until it was gone. This year for the second time I tried to download Porsche Services. I had this issue when I first bought the car. Porsche said they had reset and fixed the issue with the PCM 4.0 but I still could not connect. I have spent many hours with Porsche Customer Support on the phone. Porsche tried for a week to fix the issue and are still trying. I told them that Launch Control, and Voice Control were also not working. They have told me that the "Turbo Button" and voice Commander were not available on that model, I have the email... after trying a few others at Porsche I then connected a diagnostic tool icarsoft to the car because of all the crap I was being told and after going through all the settings I found Launch Control, number of launches 3. which was what exactly the number of times I thought I had done when it disappeared. I have taken screen shots of everything. Did I have Sport Chrono Pkg or not?

I got to hang out for a bit with a fellow forum member last weekend and we ended up taking his Turbo PP for a ride we got on the subject of launch control and he decided to give it a go and you definitely know when you get it right turbos spooled up bouncing off the rev limiter at 5,500 and bang **** did that thing put me back in my seat. To the OP my understanding is rev limiter is higher and so is boost but they may be the result of the RPMs and there is of course the other advantages that come with being in Sport+ mode. Sport+ can be added after the fact you will keep your clock and I am fairly certain I read when adding after the factory the launch control rev limiter is slightly lower at 5,000 RPMs.

I have launch control, but a couple of times it hasn’t worked. Is there a minimum run time or engine temp for it to work? Both times were after the car had been off for a couple hours and then running for maybe 10 minutes. Maybe TPMS needs readings. Just trying to figure this out. Any ideas?
