I think you also have to switch off PSM

 

I have the launch control in my car but how on earth do I use it, I read the manual but doesnt seem to work. What am I missing? Also when you use launch control i presumre you have to try and time it to the timings of the light ie activate a few secs before you suspect the lights will turn green? more importantly when activated how do you deactivate (in case you see a cop )

• Concerned about timing it with the light changing green
• Concerned that a cop suddenly shows up while the display says "Launch Control"

.....I think you may have bought the wrong car.

Have you ever autocrossed a car? Even the Macan should be fun in an autocross course. I think when you're sitting at the starting line getting ready to run the course, that would be the appropriate time to use Launch Control.

Perhaps you should experiment with LC in a large, empty parking lot early in the morning, where you won't hurt yourself.

Check your local PCA region for info on autocrossing.

There is no delay. Put it in Sport Plus, when you are ready to launch put your left foot on the brake then floor it. As soon as you see the yellow flash in the MFT you can let go of the brake.

 

No need to turn off PASM. Sport plus first, left foot on the brake, right foot fully down and it's on. If have any doubt it's on, then it's not (the sound is amazing and you won't have any doubt)

 

You must first switch to sport plus, then do the rest.

 

Correct - set to Sport Plus mode. Hold down the brake and press the accelerator all the way to the floor. The revs will climb and hold, launch control message comes up in the display and release the brake and hold on! The computer handles the rest. Don't forget to enjoy, it's quick.

Got to try out a 911TT, using launch control... Omg.. That was some amazing acceleration.

 

The turbo I'm waiting for will have it but I doubt I'd ever use it. It can't be good for the car.

 

I remembered reading somewhere that the PDK is designed to handle 3000 launches without problems. Can anyone verify that, thanks!

I was at the Porsche Driving School in Alabama. We did a couple launches in a 911turbo. Crazy acceleration. The instructor said they launch that turbo all the time and it has never had a problem.

Yes it's possible with traction control off. ...and I believe the best times have been recorded with traction control off.

Yes,
Launch control is part of the Sports Chrono package

 

I did not know Chrono and Launch came with Sport Plus.
I just had Plus added to the car and got the new button pack.
I have not tried launch but I love the manic personality of Plus for the times I may choose it.

Sport exhaust is next up when it is available I was told incorrectly by a 'specialist' in Atlanta that it would not be available post-build. Boy am I glad she was wrong!

 

I've had my Macan for 3 weeks now. Took it on two long road trips to complete the break in. Kept it under 4k rpm, varied the rpm by going manual and down shifting 1 or 2 gears while on the highway for longer periods of time, and avoided sports plus mode till hitting 2k miles. So now it is time to start having more fun.

Drove around for 10 minutes to get the engine warmed up, then tried sports plus mode for a while....wow its quite a different car. Everything is quite impressive, and now to try a launch.

Following the steps ....Sports plus on, car at complete stop. left foot pushes brake to the floor. Kick down on gas pedal to floor with right foot. Tach jumps to about 5k, Launch message slides onto display going left to right. (to this point everything as expected....)....but just as quickly launch message slides right back off screen to left and tach drops to 3k or so. All before i do anything else. I was expecting to have at least a second, perhaps two, to release the brake, but didnt. It happens very quickly, cant be more than half a second. Tried it 5 times, same result. The last time I tried coming off the brake as soon as i saw the lauch message start to slide on....but tach still dropped, car hesitated, started to move forward a little, and the tach climbed again and we were off. Very good acceleration, but only after the first stutter.

So what am I doing wrong? I have found some old posts of some people having to try 3-4 times to get a successful launch, but that was a year ago and I havent seen anyone reporting that recently.

 

Is Traction Control off? You have to turn off traction control.

Turn off Traction Control. Sport Plus mode on. Press the brake down all the way and hold it there. Press the accelerator down all the way until it reaches 5000rpm. Launch Control message will show up. Pull your left foot off the brake, and the car will accelerate.

The Launch Control message will stay there as long as you keep pressing the accelerator. It shouldn't slide off the screen. If after all this, you still keep having the above results, there may be something wrong with your launch control software, and you might need to go to the dealership to get it fixed.

 

Leave the Traction Control ON. Shift in "D". And see OM, page 200:
1. Press the brake with your left foot.
2. Quickly press the accelerator down fully (kickdown activated) and hold it.
The engine speed will level off at around 5,000 rpm. ““Launch Control activated”” is displayed on the on-board computer.
3. Release the brake within a few seconds.

It works!

 

So should traction control be ON or OFF, or it doesn't matter?

 

Traction control does not have to be off. It is not part of the Launch Control logic. @JJA The way you performed the setup is correct. It sounds like a car problem. I must admit that I have never let the tach linger at 5500rpm for more than a split second, but the launch is impressive - not at all what you are describing. The manual says you should "release the brake within a few seconds" so I would say what you are experiencing is not normal. Take a video of it to show to the dealer.

Moving off with Launch Control

Launch Control allows you to achieve maximum acceleration from standstill.

The vehicle accelerates very quickly with Launch Control activated when driving off. Control over the vehicle may be lost or other road users may be endangered as a result.
Launch Control should preferably be used on race circuits.
Only use Launch Control if road and traffic conditions permit.
Do not endanger other road users or cause a nuisance when using Launch Control.

Stress on components increases dramatically when starting with maximum acceleration in comparison with driving off normally. The number of times you can drive off with Launch Control is therefore limited. Using Launch Control too often can damage the transmission. f Only use Launch Control very carefully.

Preconditions

–– Launch Control should only be used when the engine has reached operating temperature. –– ““Sport Plus”” mode must be switched on (indicator light on the button illuminates and SPORT PLUS appears on the digital speedometer).
1. Press the brake with your left foot.
2. Quickly press the accelerator down fully (kickdown activated) and hold it. The engine speed will level off at around 5,000 rpm. ““Launch Control activated”” is displayed on the on-board computer. 3. Release the brake within a few seconds. Remaining stationary for a long time with LAUNCH CONTROL active can lead to overloading of the transmission. To protect the transmission, the engine power is then reduced and the LAUNCH CONTROL process is cancelled.

 

I say he is holding it at 5,000rpm too long. Try timing it so that you release the brake a split second after the rpms stabilize.

Some great tips here, I'll add one more. When pressing the accelerator down make sure you press it all the way to the floor, not just to where the resistance picks up due to the kick down gear activation.
