I received a check engine light (basically tells you the car is ok to drive but take the car to the workshop) after our 5,300 mile Turbo Macan blew the intake boot off. Not wanting to take the car into the $tealership even though the car is under warranty, I decided to look into a home diagnostic tool to help with repairs along the way since we own the car outright. We also have a 991 Turbo S in the family so this would be helpful when that car needs troubleshooting or oil/maintenance service resets.

Now onto the unit. It all came well packaged in a sturdy cardboard box. Inside the box, you will find a zippered carry case which houses the iCarsoft POR-II scanner tool, manual, OBD2 cable, USB micro-B cable, and a USB TF card reader. The quality of the unit is pretty darn good for what it is but don't expect German or Japanese precision here. For its intent and purposes, the quality is just fine for its price point.

First thing's first if you decide to buy this unit; RTFM!! For those of you who don't know what the heck that means, it means "READ THE EFFING MANUAL"! I don't know how many idiots I have seen over the years complain and bash a product because they were too stupid to learn how to use the tool at hand. Basically, you want to update the diagnostic tool to the latest software/firmware so that it is equipped with the latest definitions and codes for your vehicle. The website also has a step-by-step video that shows you how to download and install the tool needed to update to the latest firmware.

Usage: It is fairly easy to navigate through the menus. Unless you are electronics and common-sense illiterate, you shouldn't need to reference the manual for basic usage. I was able to read and then clear the DTC (diagnostic trouble code) code with ease. Money well spent!"

 

Thank you for being the first one to take the leap and use this. Could you give us some more details about the error you got changing the brakes and how you were able to reset the parking brake? Was that an error on the OBD reader or on the Macan dashboard?

 

The Error was during resetting the brake nag. It may have been because the sensor on the front wheel was still open. Its easily released the rear parking brake for reinstallation, and afterwords it put the brake into its normal position. This alone is worth the purchase price for me.

 

Has anyone else in the forum tried this scanner on a 2017 Macan?

 

I have a Icarsoft Por V2,0 it does the scan in general, it works to release and close the rear calliper for changing the pads. (Done in Nov 2019)
-just follow the instruction on the screen.
the rears were used left 2,5mm for 12mm as new , for the front I have 5mm left for 8 mm as new.
But the Icarsoft does not do the BMS -battery is not yet included, may be in future when soft update but not announced.

 

Anyone has experience with this tool to reset the oil change for Macan? I read that it could do the job, but I want to know that someone has actually use it for the oil change. Thanks.

 

To follow up... I reset the 10k and 20k service reminders on our 2017 Macan S today with the Icarsoft PorII. Easy. I did the software update first.

Also worked on my 981 Cayman, so I’m happy.

Thank you very much for the info. I had planned to purchase this in late 2017 and have put it in my "wish list" at Amazon. I will buy it in May when I do my oil change. Good to know that it works on rear brakes also. Now, if it works on tranny fluid change, I will be thrilled!

Successfully reset maintenance reminder

I also had success with the iCarsoft POR II tool on my 2016 Macan S. After changing the oil myself @ 10585 miles, I plugged in the tool and reset the intermediate service reminder.

I've used this on my 997 911S to reset airbag light, and on my 17 Macan GTS to reset service interval light. Both time it worked like a charm w/o any issues. IMO well worth the price for simple resets of lights, DIY oil change/brakes etc

I have tested Icarsoft cr plus on my macan S 3/2016 . It doesn’t work it doesn’t communicate with the car just error message when trying to open rear caliper.Do not buy it is useless

 

Did you just try to use it right out of the box or did you follow the instructions to get the download?

 

To my knowledge, it does not work on a MAC. I had to do it at work.

Deal Killer for me

 

You can run a Windows VM on a Mac. I run the Durametric on my MacBook Air using Parallels.

 

I got my POR-II yesterday and updated it using a VM on my Mac. Update went smooth. I'll be doing my first oil change today!

OP, I believe ETCS refers to Electronic Throttle Control System, and DPF refers to Diesel Particulate Filter system. Wonder if ther latter has to do with the Dieselgate scandal.

 

Yes, it is easy enough to do with a PC....if you own or have access to a PC.

FWIW, I know about running Windows on my Mac using a VM. I used to do this. Or I could restart my Mac by booting into Windows to get the full power of Windows by using Boot Camp. When I bought a new Mac, I was not able to transfer the partition containing my Windows XP installation. Not sure I can even do it now or if WinXP is too old for it to work with this POR-II. Likely, I would need to either buy a Windows laptop or buy a Windows 10 license & install under Boot Camp &/or buy another Virtual software such as VMware Fusion or Parallels. A lot of trouble & expense.

 

1) Does it do battery registration?
2) What if you want to use the unit on another brand of car? How does that work?

 

Has anyone got the brake reset to work, it keeps confirming that reset is complete but the vehicle is still showing a message that brakes need to be changed. I have a MY2015.
The oil reset worked perfectly fine.

 

Haven't tried yet... Curious to know as well.

I see that iCarsoft has a multi-vehicle unit available. Just sent an email inquiring if it could also register a battery.

It does not.

 

Just an update - I tried to reset the oil light, and resetting "oil service" didn't work (even after I entered the date). However, resetting "ALL SERVICE" did the trick.

 

Mine reset the oil service light and I DID NOT bother to perform the update. Worked great out of the box!

 

Any intermediate service reset device?

My Macau is getting 4 year intermediate service light in another 60 days. Any device can reset it? Tkx

I have it at home, saw youtube videos on it. seems simple. my oil change light comes on in 01/2019 but my mechanic already changed the oil. Waiting for the reminder to come on to try this.

 

It worked for ours.

 

I just used the icarsoft Por II to reset my Oil Maintenance Indicator. It wasn't even due yet but i already changed the oil. It was set to go off 01/2019. I used the tool with the battery in "on" position and changed it to 12/2019. It asks you to enter in today's date (you can enter any date you want) and it will automatically just add 1 year to it.

It took 3 minutes from start to finish.

 

For those of you who own this and for those who are interested, this is easily found on Amazon and only costs $160. You'll make up your money with 1 diy oil change like I just did.

I also plan to use this to help with the rear brakes once they need replacing prob in 2019.

My first question is, can this tool turn off the seat belt noise if I don't be it on when the car is in motion?

 

iCarSoft POR II and interim service reset

I've searched and have not been able to find anyone having submitted a post that they
successfully reset the interim service now warning with their iCarSoft II diagnostic tool.

I have an iCarSoft II and see only an oil service reset option. Is this the one I am supposed
to select? I last had my oil changed at ~19K miles and have recently reached ~27K miles,
so I'm approaching the 10K oil service interval.

The warnings started appearing a few weeks ago with a countdown in miles to reach the
interim service, culminating in the 'now' message noted above.


To those with iCarSoft II units, have you used it to clear the interim service warning?
