Does anyone know how to remove the rear tail lights? I'm going to switch them out for the tinted ones from suncoast but couldn't figure out how to get the old ones out. I didn't mess with it too much as I didn't want to break anything or start removing panels that don't need to be removed. Hoping it's pretty simple. Thanks.

In case anyone is wondering, it's not simple.

The lights on the tailgate need to have the entire panel on the inside removed. It's quite a chore to get it off without breaking anything. It's even worse trying to get it back on.

The outer lights can be accessed by removing the panels on inside. The problem is they can be unbolted but the rear bumper needs to be removed to get them out. That's the point I gave up.

My dealer is charging $300 for the install. The SA said the tech was dreading it because it's so awful to do.

$500 for the OEM dark tinted tail lights and $300 for install. Probably not worth it considering the stock are already pretty dark.

Did the upgrade to dark tint rear lights yesterday!

Didn’t need to take the rear bumper off or remove the wheels but you do need to remove the 4 screws holding the inner liner outer edge and the 4 screws behind that hold the bumper PU to the the frame inside the wheel arch.

With the bumper PU removed you do need to unbolt the black plastic framework below each light to be able to release the bobbins on the bottom of the lights, they don’t come out unless you remove them with the lights.

Tailgate was easier but you need to remove the screws behind the rubbers in the handle apertures 2 each side, behind the triangle 2 screws, and remove tailgate switch just pull out and disconnect the plug. The rest is on metal clips and just requires a very firm pull, it all came off at once on me so help is recommended.

Been very careful and my first time it took about 4 hours.

Hope this helps some of you going forward...

I was going to have them swap with the OEM tinted one from Suncoast as well but it is way to expensive to do so. Then I just tint them with the Lamin-X films. It is much cheaper and not going to damage your car. Just take some time and a heat gun to put it on. Or you can it installed at a Lamin-x dealer/installer. I did it myself and it turns out pretty good.

@Chuck Choi

I like! If you were to compare to what Suncoast has to offer, which would most closely match your install... Smoke, Gun Smoke, or Gun Metal?

Suncoast Porsche Parts & Accessories Tail Light Film - Macan
I got the films from the Lamin-X website. Tint (lightest) on the headlights, turn signals and fog lights. Gunsmoke (med) on the tail lights. I pretty sure the ones on Suncoast are from Lamin-X as well. You do get free shipping from Lamin-X with a purchase over $75 and no tax.

Thank you. And as far as you can tell, does the film have a significant effect (degradation) in light intensity?
I believe the Gunsmoke (med) film doesn't not have significant effect on reducing the brightness. The reason being that when I brake to a stop, I can still clearly see my brake lights from the reflection of the car that is behind me on the rear view mirror, even when it is sunny out.

You may want to check the legality of that?
In my state installing any film over any light is illegal...
Not that anyone would notice a light colored tint, but you never know...
I've done it on my Audi TT and Q5, for my Q5 it is the Smoked tint, which is much darker than Gunsmoke. I didn't get any tickets or pulled over by the police because of the tinted tail light, even with the dark Smoked one on my Q5. But personally, I think the Smoked (dark) is too dark. If I have time tomorrow, I will snap some pictures of illuminated brake lights of the Maccan with the Gunsmoke (med) film.

That's how Smoked (dark) looks like on My Q5:

Hello I need to change the indicator rear drivers side light as it has some dead LED's. I removed the black plastic cover which gives me access to 2 Torx screws which I removed. I then removed 1 Torx screw from the inside of the car boot. The light is moving free, but will not come out. I think the bobbings are holding the light in. I can't see how to remove the bumper PU, or do I need to remove this at all?. Does anyone have photos of what needs to be removed please?.
