GT Steering wheel vs Standard ?

21 - 40 of 41 Posts
will GT steering wheel block the view of the dials in the cluster ?
I test drove 21 GTS's with and without GT sport steering wheel. The smaller GT wheel did ever so slightly impact the view of the dials and I preferred the feel of the standard wheel, but that was on MY21. I must say I do like the extra breaks and stitching on the 22 GT wheel but not so much the all black look. Prefer the bits of aluminum to brighten it up and go with the rest of the bright bits on the console etc.

I have the GT wheel in my 22 S. For the first few days after delivery I was annoyed with it coming from a Mercedes’ A35, where the wheel is larger with a flat bottom. But it was just teething pains. Now I’m in love with it. Texture is great, also with the indents at the back where your fingers rest, plus the smaller size is fantastic for controlling tight turns. Finally the leather is nice and durable, not super soft. Perfect wheel IMO.

I know there’s been complaints about it blocking the dials, I haven’t experienced this in my seating position and I sit quite high

That looks nice, thanks for the good clean pic

I was confused by a lot of those gripes on blocking the view of the dials. Also does the steering wheel not telescope up and down to alleviate that?

Thanks for posting the photo, it looks amazing! I was always baffled by "blocking the dials" comments, it absolutely depends on the driver's height, sitting position, steering wheel adjustment, etc.

Completely agree. I actually found this problem in my previous Merc. Their digital display behind the wheel is poorly designed. Everyone knows a rectangle behind a circle doesn't work, but apparently not their designers. No matter the position, it would block key pieces of information. Drove me mad.

In the Porsche the dials are positioned to work with the steering wheel curve, not against.

I went with the heated GT wheel in Race-Tex and matte CF trim for my 22 GTS. Here’s a pic of the wheel sans CF from the LA Auto Show.

I have the regular steering wheel in my Cayman and I desperately wish I had the smaller wheel. It was a given I’d spec the GT on my new Macan.

You can get any steering wheel to block the view if you adjust the seat and steering column to do so.

Interesting, I compared the OP's GT wheel photo with the configurator photo from my build and they look quite different. It does look like the photo from the 911 Turbo configurator.
Another interesting comparison -- With the Agate interior, the configurator made it look like the centre of the wheel was all black (which I preferred). Having received actual pics from my SA, it seems that it is interior color (aka. Agate). See the pic below as a comparison between configurator and actual... At what point is it considered a material difference?

That most definitely looks Agate and not black which is nothing like the configurator. I would say that’s a pretty big material difference. But it matches everything else in the Agate interior. 😬

In the configuration it notes:

“Note: Steering wheel leather color in Black, Agate Grey or Espresso, depending on the interior color selected.”

That is a nice clear photo and the GT wheel does look quite beefy. Can anyone confirm if the GT wheel on the 22's are thicker than the GT wheel on the 21's. I liked the standard wheel on the 21's as it was thicker than the GT one. A nice clear photo of the 22 standard wheel next to that one would be nice.
I'm second guessing myself now and I need to decide as my build is locking very soon.
Thanks

Porsche sure does a shitty job visualizing configurator options for a premium brand. An amateur photoshop job may be acceptable early on when components are in the design phase. Once vendors provide them with manufacturing samples, it's time to take actual professional photos.

Sadly, you can't really trust the photos in the configurator. I think the description is clear. It looks better in the actual photo for whatever it is worth. A two-tone steering wheel would have looked weird.

Yep, I’m driving a 2021 GLA at present. To start with there is zero chance you can see what temperature you have the A/C RHS set to.
