GT is smaller in diameter. Smaller in terms of the diameter across the wheel, and smaller in terms of the diameter of the grip. I like my GT wheel, but I had a layer of leather added to my wheel to make the grip thicker (which made it about the same as the non-GT wheel).
For those of you with ”meaty” hands who like to grip the wheel, under-handed, near the bottom (8 and 4 kind of grip, not 10 and 2), the SC dial can get in the way (especially if you have a layer of leather added to the GT wheel).
Before and After photos below after some tweaks to my steering wheel (same steering wheel). There are four noteworthy differences about the steering wheel. Can spot all four? Sorry about the lighting.
I have GT wheel on the order. I too prefer the smaller overall diameter and it looks more sporty, IMO, but I didn’t know the std wheel grip had larger circumference. Doesn’t really matter to me and my girly hands. : )
I ordered my 2022 with the GT wheel since I didn't like the 2021 standard wheel on my testers. I think the 2022 standard wheel is great however now that I see real-life side-by-side photos (thanks for that), I would have done the same, I typically prefer smaller steering wheels. I also wanted to get the white instrument cluster and felt the GT wheel works better with that.
Interesting, I compared the OP's GT wheel photo with the configurator photo from my build and they look quite different. It does look like the photo from the 911 Turbo configurator.
I still haven’t got my head around the GT wheel, I want it because of the smaller diameter but not if it is thinner gripped . Have yet to get that clarified or see one in the flesh
It's hard to tell from the OP's photos but to me, it looks like they either have the same thickness, or that the GT steering wheel is slightly thicker. Anyway, if this is indeed the 911 Turbo's steering wheel, I'll take it!
Same here - I much prefer the look without silver. With the steering wheel as the first thing you see when opening the door (and constantly when in the car), it was a no brainer for me. I ordered with the GT wheel.
I test drove 21 GTS's with and without GT sport steering wheel. The smaller GT wheel did ever so slightly impact the view of the dials and I preferred the feel of the standard wheel, but that was on MY21. I must say I do like the extra breaks and stitching on the 22 GT wheel but not so much the all black look. Prefer the bits of aluminum to brighten it up and go with the rest of the bright bits on the console etc.
I have the GT wheel in my 22 S. For the first few days after delivery I was annoyed with it coming from a Mercedes’ A35, where the wheel is larger with a flat bottom. But it was just teething pains. Now I’m in love with it. Texture is great, also with the indents at the back where your fingers rest, plus the smaller size is fantastic for controlling tight turns. Finally the leather is nice and durable, not super soft. Perfect wheel IMO.
I know there’s been complaints about it blocking the dials, I haven’t experienced this in my seating position and I sit quite high
I had the regular wheel in my old Macan and moved to the GT wheel in my new one. Love the GT wheel and would definitely order it again. Feels better in the hands, and less arm movement required when steering.
GT steering wheel is smaller in overall diameter and provided slight better peripheral vision on the left edge of infotainment screen with less obstruction.
