PCM5 modding has been relatively complicated and closed off. So I decided to make the MH2p SD ModKit (MH2p SD ModKit).

It is a free ModKit that allows you to modify your MH2p system using only an SD card (no ethernet adapter and Telnet needed!). It is intentionally open so that anyone can make mods for it! If you are a developer, check out LawPaul/MH2p_SD_ModKit: allows for modifying the MH2p unit used in some Volkswagen AG vehicles using only an SD card.

The first mod I am releasing with it installs the true full screen CarPlay mod I worked on with @UncleMacan.

This mod changes your CarPlay from this:

to this:

while only needing to copy files to an SD card and insert it into your vehicle (the update automatically installs)!

I created this webpage: MH2p SD ModKit with instructions on how to setup the SD card and run the update. Hopefully, the site will soon host more mods like those included with MH2p Toolbox (Convert and update MH2p without contacting "professionals").

Let me know how it goes and if any instructions can be cleaned up! The goal is to lower the barrier to entry for modding. And to give people a better CarPlay experience for free.

this was helpful thank you! Very dumb question but perhaps it may help others too - I download the package, downloaded the mod kit, moved it to "mods" folder. How to I get the install.sh and uninstall.sh to show up in mod folder?

EDIT: Sorry this forum is hard to navigate. I saw @CarmineS did check and no codes on the offline version of PIWIS. Hopefully the dealer online version is the same!
I wish it was the old simple single thread. Replies get hidden very easily in this format.
Not sure what your view settings are, but you might be stuck in "nested" view which makes each reply a separate thread within a thread. On the desktop site, hit the three dots in the upper right corner near your avatar and then select "Classic view" towards the bottom of the list. That will display posts in each thread in chronological order. HTH.

Worked perfectly for me after switching from Finder to BlueHarvest on Mac. I don’t know if it’s just the latest version of MacOS, but the hidden files would return no matter how I removed the card or if the trash were emptied.
Thank you so much for sharing this! Truly changes the user experience of PCM5

Just confirming....If I install the full screen carplay mod on my 22S, will I still have wireless carplay? If I uninstall the mod, will the PCM return to it's original part screen car play (eg.If I trade the car to the dealer or have a problem with the PCM)?

I'm using a CarLinkIt 4.0 to get wireless Android Auto through the wired Carplay in my 2020 Macan. I can confirm that the full screen mod works well with this setup. I'm pretty sure it would work okay with other wired to wireless adapters on the market. If you have one of these devices, make sure you set the screen resolution to 1920x720 in the setup or app. If you used a custom or smaller resolution, you'll get some weird results.
The installation of this mod is pretty easy if you follow instructions to the letter. Be patient. It takes some time to install and will reboot the PCM a few times before you get the "Remove media" message.
If this mod is expanded to enable Android Auto with the full screen, I'll most likely install that as well.
Thanks for your work on this.

Working on Android Auto! When complete, it will be an additional mod that can be installed.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The mod worked perfectly the first time. Initially, for maybe 6-10 seconds nothing seems to happen (might be longer if you use an sd card) after you insert the USB stick...just wait. During the install, there are another two periods where the screen goes full black....a bit longer, maybe 10-15 seconds....just wait. The install has an automatic reboot in the middle but just let everything run until you get a message to remove the update media.

Wonderful improvement. I went with the Porsche icons on the side and the top because I need to switch functions at times.

If you've set up the sdcard or USB stick correctly, then turn your macan on (or start it),wait for the pcm to load....then insert the sdcard or USB stick. There is a short period where nothing seems to be happening and then the screen will turn black and the install starts. You don't have to do anything other than insert the media and remove it when told to remove it at the end. The whole thing takes far less than 5 minutes.

When I did this, this came up. It stayed on the PCM for maybe 15-20 seconds and then seems to progress but finally came to a screen that said, "engineering will be left after reboot and after it rebooted, I still have the OE screen. Is there a way to bypass that screen? I have a 2020 base macan.

If I am understanding, the wide screen only affects CarPlay and if not in CarPlay the “normal” screen is open. When I take my Macan to the dealership next month for service the dealer would not know I have made this modification, correct?

Thanks. I have another year under warranty, just want to play it safe. This is a great feature that your are sharing. While I knew the Macan screen was a little anemic it didn’t really set in until I got my wife a new car with wide screen display. Now my Macan screen looks really anemic. Thanks again.

I have the same worry but basically confirmed it throws no codes. So scanning the car for service wouldnt find anything. And at worst the would simply flash the software back to stock; a code popping up is generic and they arent going to waste time on that.

And in the worst case the only thing not covered is if your PCM broke. Which then, they aren't going to task someone to go into the code and see the mod if the unit is dead. That is not cost-effective and not really realistic.

I took the risk. I think it is realistically under 1% of being a real issue.

I just did this as a full screen (no Porsche icons on the left) and it worked amazingly well. formatted the card, moved the toolkit over, then I added the mod to my mod flder.
started car
inserted SD card
waited....nothing...nothing...lights flicker, screen reboots...nothing ...nothing...then engineering mode for a LONG time. was afraid it had gotten stuck-probably about 2 mins maybe more. then quick flashes and a few more reboots each time back to engineering screen. finally I'm sitting there waiting and I realize it says remove media while still in engineering screen. I do that...it sits for a LONG time then reboots with a progress bar that seemed like it was taking forever. then a small popup flashed quickly along the top border that says HD content enabled (or something like that)---SUCCESS- I didn't time it but whole process was less than 10 minutes. it felt longer because of the long pauses where it seemingly wasn't doing anything..

2024 Macan. no issues. can't wait for the Android Auto unlock but so far this is amazing.

applied modification last night. started the macan this morning and the display instantly came on showing carplay....no warm up/boot delay? Is there anything in the modification that keeps the PCM active, even though the car is off?

False Alarm: not sure why this happened....maybe I forgot to turn the car off (the engine was off for sure) ??? The modification works as expected.

Nothing in the mod does that. It is only loaded when CarPlay is running and changes the resolution/window type used for CarPlay.

First thanks to CarmineS and the other developers for producing this tool!

I've been trying to implement it on my 2021 992. It goes through all the steps but nothing changes. No logs are produced.

I read above that this could be because the mod is not set up on my USB drive correctly.

This is my file structure:

Image

When I run the update only two files seem to be changed:

ExceptionList.fec and
MMX2P_POSTSCRIPT.script

I believe I'm running PCM 5.

Image

I used an iMac to create the files on a USB stick and cleaned it using BlueHarvest (manually deleting the hidden files doesn't work).

I hope we can resolve this because I know a lot of guys on the 992 forums would be pretty excited!
