PCM5 modding has been relatively complicated and closed off. So I decided to make the MH2p SD ModKit (MH2p SD ModKit).

It is a free ModKit that allows you to modify your MH2p system using only an SD card (no ethernet adapter and Telnet needed!). It is intentionally open so that anyone can make mods for it! If you are a developer, check out LawPaul/MH2p_SD_ModKit: allows for modifying the MH2p unit used in some Volkswagen AG vehicles using only an SD card.

The first mod I am releasing with it installs the true full screen CarPlay mod I worked on with @UncleMacan.

This mod changes your CarPlay from this:

to this:

while only needing to copy files to an SD card and insert it into your vehicle (the update automatically installs)!

I created this webpage: MH2p SD ModKit with instructions on how to setup the SD card and run the update. Hopefully, the site will soon host more mods like those included with MH2p Toolbox (Convert and update MH2p without contacting "professionals").

Let me know how it goes and if any instructions can be cleaned up! The goal is to lower the barrier to entry for modding. And to give people a better CarPlay experience for free.

thanks so much for doing this! any chance that you can make it customizable to pick the resolution? IE: if I wanted the just about full screen carplay, but still want to see the left Porsche menu.

also is there a way to make a "reversal tool" as well in case we don't like it?

I added a "Windowed Full Screen" mod to the site which installs the older "full screen" mod that still shows the top and left menu bars.

The mods do include uninstall scripts and directions on how to run the uninstall instead of install.

Do you know if the 2019s all have the Wireless CarPlay hardware and just need it enabled in software? If so, yes, it is doable. I have been talking with MH2p Toolbox about porting all of that functionality to this easier method!

I paid to get full-screen wireless Carplay configured by a user on another forum. It involved acquiring some USB ethernet adapters and a bunch of instructions to perform on a laptop, while communicating over WhatsApp. I was pleased with his service and the result. But this method seems a LOT easier, not to mention that it saves a good bundle of money. You are DEFINITELY providing a service to the community with this write-up. Much appreciated!

Hey CarmineS. I'm having trouble setting up the SD Card. I downloaded the mh2p sd modkit and extracted the files to my SD Card. No problem there. And then I downloaded the Windowed Carplay and right clicked on the zip file and extracted it to the MOD folder that was extracted from the modkit. So is that it? Thanks. I'm a newbie and just don't want to screw up my 23 Macan S with 8200 miles.

You can confirm Android Auto is full screen with this? I have been in talks about porting the rest of MH2p Toolbox. lprot may host those mods on Yandex as some parts contain (modified) binaries from MH2p that could get taken down on GitHub.

Thanks for sharing this. My 22 model did not have the SD card reader. It only has two USB-C slots in the arm rest console. I confirmed this install will still work with a USB stick set up the same way as the SD card instructions.

This process has me thinking of more mods that's I'd like. I wonder if it's possible to change the color of the car displayed with the overhead camera view? Our car is blue, not silver.

It will work, looks like your SD card is not setup quite right! This update is not installed through the PCM UI’s software update.

If it is setup right, the PCM will automatically reboot when you insert the SD card. If you used macOS to setup the SD card, check the additional notes I added to the instructions. MacOS automatically adds files to the SD card that interfere with the update. If you used Windows, double check all files are where they should be. On the root of the drive, you should have Data, Logs, Meta, Mods folders. Inside the Mods folder, you should have a folder with the files for the mod you chose inside. Let me know if you need any more help.

Amazing. All you who contributed to releasing this for the community are true gentleman and scholars. @CarmineS @UncleMacan @FlyPenFly Many thanks. Please share all your Venmo's or CashApp's to let us all pitch in an buy y'all a coffee or a round of your fav. 👍🙏

Can't wait for wireless AA. Hopefully soon, otherwise I'm gunna have to get a spare iPhone. Haha.

Thanks for the offer! I'm intentionally doing this for free to help the community!

The best thing you can do for me is to spread the word that this is easy to do and freely available! Also, getting some other people making mods would be very cool. :) Access to the MH2p is wide open so the sky's the limit on what people can make!

Yes on a MBP.

I tried at first doing the command-shift-period but I guess it’s not “cleaning” the media well enough. I was seeing only 2 greyed out files. Last try so finally downloaded the software (BlueHarvest) you gave a link to. Cleaned the SD…. Back to the car…
re-inserted…. Working right now. Updating…. Read manifest files…. (like scary MS-DOS from the 80s) Screen asked to Removed media….. screen Restarted. Progress Bar showed up and progressing. After, all black screen 6s or so ...and the Porsche logo came back. Whew! Screen back to normal and loaded its normal infos. Connected phone via USB and CarPlay is WIDE!!!

Works! Thanks CarmineS.

Deep inside I was hoping it would connect wirelessly, but I guess it only says "full screen CarPlay". :)

Yes, the auto update process is a bit weird... definitely not meant to look pretty and be used by the public!

Wireless CarPlay could be added with a different mod ported from MH2p Toolbox if the hardware exists.

Had to create an account just to say a HUGE thank you! This was literally the one thing about the car that bugged me the most. Having it full screen makes the display look so big compared to how it was prior. Looking forward to seeing what else you/other modders are able to accomplish with this!

One thing I think would be great to add is having the top down camera show up automatically when putting the car in reverse. It is real annoying having to hit the arrow every time.
