Today I received a warning while driving under heavy rain conditions: "fault of engine control system" - in yellow; the engine was not properly accelerating.

Contacted Porsche Service on the phone while still driving at reduced speed: they stated if it is a yellow warning, nothing particular to worry about (!?!).

Outcome: following Porsche service suggestions, had to stop the car, switch it off, wait 10 secs, and restart it. Luckily the warning disappeared and the car started back to perform properly.

Has anyone else experimented with the same situation?

that was one of the most likely problems based on what happened. my service appt is in 10 days.

is it safe to drive in the meantime. i was told yes.

is it covered by warranty. i hope so, especially since i am trading in car in about 6-8 weeks.

funny that you ask. they couldn't do the diagnostic check the day i had my car there. so i waited 2 weeks on pins and needles. i figured to have my car back the same day or next day the latest. it turned out to be a sensor that had to be replaced. special ordered. took a day or 2 to come in. but the seals were not included. another day or 2. then the guy working on car went home sick. then they discovered another issue having to do with faulty brake fluid reading. it dragged on and on. i didn't hound them because, fortunately, they got me a loaner on day 2. in all, i didn't get my car back for 17 days. yup, from 1/11 to 1/27. but they fixed everything, checked everything, and it was covered by warranty.

Been following this thread for a minute since my Engine Control Fault light popped up a few weeks ago. 2017 Macan base with 97,000 miles. Light comes on if I turn car off and back on it will turn off. No performance issues. Anyway took to my mechanic they couldn’t find any issue. Took to Porsche they told me my Turbo needs to be replaced. Comes with a $7500+ price tag. Passed on that. Wondering if anyone’s ever had any turbo issues?

they may be 100% correct and i am not knowledgeable enough on car engines to really know BUT before i spend $7500 on this, i'd want to make sure. after going thru my situation with the ENGINE message, i thought it was fixed. the sensor was replaced and something else related to that was also fixed. it was fine for 2 weeks. then, all of a sudden, my ECF light went on. a different message but same ballpark. the car rode ok but it was scary since i didn't know if it was serious this time. i was able to bring my car in that day since at that point i knew the service manager pretty well and he felt somewhat responsible since i just had my car there for 16 days. this time they figured out that it was some kind of leak in a hose that let air in some other hose and it caused the engine light to go on. they fixed it and i had my car back the next day. been fine since which is now 10 days. he made it sound like it was no a big deal.

Any new news on Engine Control Fault light ( and periodically also acc/gra). 2017 Macan 45000 miles. Comes on all times now within a few miles/ minute. Been checked many times by dealer and kept by them and driven. They have not found any reason. Changed o2 sensor. No difference. Every thing running fine. Mpg excellent 29mpg on recent vacation trip. Ideas? Feel like just driving waiting for something to show up.

wound up being exactly what Porsche said. No way around it needed a new Turbo my mechanic was able to do it for $2700 vs Porsche wanting to charge me over $7000.
I Turo my vehicle on the side and unfortunately the day I got it back the vehicle was totaled the same day I got it back 🤦🏻‍♂️. Dealing with the aftermath now. Luckily no one was hurt. Except my pocket.

I got the engine control fault consult a workshop driving permitted message on my 2018 GTS a few weeks ago. The car sometimes felt like it would stall when starting from a stop. I made an appointment at the dealer for a few days later. The light was no longer on and they told me there was no way they could diagnose the problem. they said, I need to bring it in when the light is on….really? It’s come on at least two more times for a day or two and then it turns off. Isn’t there a way for this to be diagnosed without the message being on…I don’t want to be causing damage While I wait for the light to come back on.

Heard from the dealer today…I need to replace sensors in the exhaust camshaft…not a huge deal…but, there is a leak with the timing cover..apparently, it’s a known issue with the bolts and that they can break…i was told a 20hr+ job. My husband changes the oil every 5000 miles and says very little oil is lost, he did notice a little oil on the garage floor. We’re going to hold off on that for now…a shame that this is a known issue but not covered by Porsche. Of course, there are worse things….

Looks like I, too, can join the club of lucky people this has happened too.

For me, it was on a highway in Montana while going 70mph, in a cell phone dead zone for at least 30mins drive in either direction.

After this message occurred it was like the car was running at 25% of its regular power. RPM would not go above 2500 no matter how hard I stepped on the pedal. Accelerating up any sort of hill was a futile effort.

Eventually I pulled over, stopped the car and started it again and all appeared back to normal. However, that does not appease my concerns.

When I called my dealer they said “it’s tire changing season, but we can see you in 3 weeks”. Is this a joke? How is that acceptable service?

I have owned Ford, Lincoln, Jeep, Mazda, Honda etc and never once have I had headaches with those brands like I have had with the two Macans I’ve owned.

Honestly, I think I’m just done with Porsche. This is supposed to be a premium, performance brand. Not the case.

Going to test drive an X3 M40i today.

It just happened to me on a 2021 Macan GTS. Service advisor asked if I recently refueled...which I had. I reset gas cap. I do have bad habit of "just a couple more squirts" when filler pops off. Service advisor suggested its would take about 20 cycles before fault corrected IF>>>>IF that was the issue.

Another victim up the engine control fault here. 2017 Macan Base model with 69k miles. Engine Control Fault comes on along with start-stop operation disabled. I've checked car with Icarsoft Porsche software and no fault codes are shown even with warning light on. Battery voltage around 14.3. Gas cap is fine.
Warning light has never come on while driving. Warning light comes on every other time when starting the car. I then turn car off and turn it back on 20 seconds later and warning light does not appear and start-stop function is allowed again.

I've reviewed this thread and many others and I'm not sure if there is a definitive problem or solution. Any one have any ideas or suggestions on my symptoms before I start randomly replacing parts.

Thinking of starting with spark plugs, coils. Thoughts, suggestions, help? Thanks!

Is your software compatible with Macans of 2017 and beyond? I somewhat recall seeing posts in the past about certain Icarsoft products working with the 2015/2016 models only. A persistent engine fault code should stay in memory and be identifiable.

My advice is to not throw parts at it before it’s properly diagnosed — either by yourself or a professional. Keep digging.

I am using the icarsoft Porsche V2.0. It works fine with the 2017 Macan for resetting service indicators as well as with a recent brake job to retract ebrake. However, this is first time i've tried to pull an engine warning code. I also have a cheap OBD reader and it also pulls no codes with engine light on.

In regards to spark plugs they are past due to be changed so i was planning to do them anyways.

Thanks for the reply!

2018 S 29K miles.
Just got a check engine light “Driving Permitted” message. Dealer can’t see it until April 11. My scanner reads P0441. decided to run down town to get gas. Pulled in, filled up. I never top off. Wouldn’t start.
Stuck at Mobil Station. Family in the car. called a flatbed. After letting it sit. tried it again and fired up. Limped home. So much for Driving Permitted.
Not happy. Been one thing after another.

I got this message Friday night 4/19 "Engine Control Fault - Driving Permitted", the car hesitated at start up, but then drove fine, I switched in and out of sport mode, fine acceleration.. absolutely no problems, auto shift fine.. but code stayed on even after stopping the car and turning it off for a few min. Left the car over night in the garage. Same issue, car didn't want to turn over at first, then it did.. the engine sounded funny for a sec, "Engine Control Fault - Driving Permitted" came on again, but then after a min same as the night before.. drove just fine.. acceleration , everything.. same as always.. parked the car.. spent an hour away from it, started it up.. "Engine Control Fault - Driving Permitted" came on again.. but no other issues, not even the hesitation or noise.. checked gas cap .. I did over fill the afternoon before, but cap was on .. Anyone have any suggestions.. I want to avoid a 3k+ bill if I can

Car didn’t want to turn over? Do you mean it cranked slowly, if so is the battery original. A weak battery can give all sorts of weird things. If battery is new and ful
y charged not sure then?

No battery is brand new... And its driven regularly.. I did get rear ended in November, and it took four weeks to repai (it was a Porsche certified center) I assume the car sat for awhile then but its been running great since I got it back Jan 5th.. Also no interior light flickering or dimming.. Thank you for your fast reply !!

Update... Took it awhile to catch today but it did start (crank sounds normal it just wont start though it tries).. Once it starts there is still a loud noise, at first, like yesterday..sweet smell from engine, white smoke out of the exhaust ... all of that stops after it runs for a few mins.. the light buzz remains.. can something in the engine have been damaged by the rear end accident and just took a few months to manifest? I am not going to drive it till I can get into the dealership.. It does still say "driving permitted" Is it the beginning of a Head Gasket Failure? Anyone know what that cost will look like? Again once it starts and the noise dies down to barely a mild buzz.. it drive as it always has.. no loss of power no issues what so ever except the warning stays on..
