Engine Control Fault - Driving Permitted

Today I received a warning while driving under heavy rain conditions: "fault of engine control system" - in yellow; the engine was not properly accelerating.

Contacted Porsche Service on the phone while still driving at reduced speed: they stated if it is a yellow warning, nothing particular to worry about (!?!).

Outcome: following Porsche service suggestions, had to stop the car, switch it off, wait 10 secs, and restart it. Luckily the warning disappeared and the car started back to perform properly.

Has anyone else experimented with the same situation?

Yes, could be anything. Happens in most cars. Usual thing to check first is the gas cap. Make sure it's tightened on properly.

BTW, where is the OBD port on the Macan? Under the dash on the driver's side as per usual?

Happend to me right now. But at normal conditions. Stoped the car, waited 10 sec and again back to normal. THIS SUCKS

Had oil changed at 7,500 miles
in October have about 11,500 miles now have service appointment on 3/9 service advisor said shouldn't be critical
Has anyone experienced this and should I be Very concerned?
Any advice or past experience would help (2016 S)

Did you lose turbo boost? Watch the boost gauge during hard accel. to see the boost psi increases. If not, you probably have a vacuum leak. Nothing to worry about. Some of us had this issues and got it fixed under warranty.

Hi! I have a 2020 Macan S with 59k miles. This Engine Control Fault light came on and my European Specialst Mechanic said no code is detected. I just failed Emissions and their computer said Turbo Boost. I am freaking out, single Mom, just dumped 5k into in at 38k miles for a water pump, thermostat and hoses, warranty was such a scam. Car was sold to me as a 2020 but production date was 2019 so they wouldn't cover it. Got so scammed. Had it with this thing. Drives like a dream/smooth as a jet but emptying my bank account. Take unbelievable care of it. HELP! PLEASE!!!! Do I get out of it an cut my losses? Still have $26k left to pay as I have only had it for 2 yrs. Losing my mind.

Yup. My dash lit up like a X'mas tree (more than 1 fault). Took it in and dealer did a reset and scan the DME and told me to monitor it. It happened again a few weeks later and took it in and they did the same and no code was stored (so they claimed) and did another reset and (full or partial ?) software update that time, since then no further faults came. This was about 6+ months ago.

All Macan's are turbo, including the base model, thus the turbo boost.

Today as I pulled into my office I got a "Fault of the Engine Contol System" warning and the yellow engine light came on. i pulled into a parking spot and called my SA and he said ok to drive it as long as the car drove ok. He asked me to bring it in tomorrow for diagnostic evaluation. I drove it home this afternoon and filled with gas on the way home but the light did not go off. Also, when I pulled into the garage, I noticed a high pitched "whine" noise coming from under the car (not from the engine). Anyone else have this happen? I have to drive it 30 miles to the dealer tomorrow. 2015 Macan Turbo with 38,900 miles

This JUST happened to me. I got a "FAULT OF THE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM" followed by a loud scraping coming from under the car, sounds like the passenger side. 2018 Macan. I live on an island with no Porsche dealership nearby. Not sure where to turn. Can I drive to Boston (70 miles away) to have Porsche look at it? Not sure I'd trust a mechanic on this island….ugh.

Thats some scary sh*t man. If I heard my car crying for help like that I would have it flat bed towed the 30 miles to the dealer. How can the service advisor diagnose the fault over the phone and say its safe to drive? Do you want to find out if your $90,000/400 hp car locks up on the highway?

Not driving it. Parked in garage waiting to get picked up once dealer has a loaner

I had that error message + many more last year on my 15 Turbo too while driving. The car lost throttle power for about 1 minute or so and I managed to pull over to side of the road safely. Turned off the car and turned back on and it was driveable. I brought my car to dealer a couple of days later with all the messages still lit up and the eventual fix by the dealer was a total reset of ECU software, no parts were replaced.

This happened right after my 30k maintenance ~2months ago. I was driving home from dealership when I got the same fault. Turns out there's a bad batch of spark plugs out there. The dealer sent someone to my house, hooked up their laptop and showed me the misfires in cylinder 3. He replaced that plug, ran like a charm after. I had the same whining noise too. The technician stated the computer didn't know how to distribute power because it didn't know how much the engine was producing due to the misfire. Take that with a grain of salt.

Interesting that yours said that it was ok to drive it and mine did not. I wonder if they changed the warning light between 2015 and 2017

Very scary when the car shuts down in "limp mode" for sure! My 2015 had the same message with "ok to drive" but just enough motor to crawl. Turning off the key and restarting brings back to life, but the dash warning lights can only be cured by hooking up a scanner and clearing. The Cobb Accessport has the ability to show the codes and clear also.

Update from dealer. Vacuum leak but still trying to find source

#27 ·
Sounds familiar. Some of us had this vacuum leak issue early in the ownership. You got no turbo boost so nothing serious.

I think the fix was to re-torque some bolt.

But my dealer said they had to do an engine tear-down to trace the problem and it would be expensive without warranty.
