Background story: For longer than I care to admit, our garage has always included an SUV along with the sport cars. For the past 15 years the SUV has been various models of the Lexus RX350 (most recently a 2015 RX350 AWD F Sport, this one was a 3 year lease). Well, the Lexus lease was up back in September 2017 and we were ready to buy a 2018 RX350 AWD F Sport. For the first time in over a decade, Lexus is late to release the RX (2018 still isn't available in Dec 2017) and we did a month to month lease extension. Tick tock... My practical side had me reluctant to spend the $$ difference between the Macan and the likes of Lexus and BMW. more... tick tock

Always liked the Macan but sometimes habits (Lexus) are hard to break. Our first and most recent Porsche was a 2015 Boxster S on a 3 year, high mile lease. After 3 years and 54k miles, the Boxster still felt and looked as if new. Even with age and miles, 100% reliable, every button was smooth and went click, no rattles, the leather seats and interior still like new, etc... it was by far the best put together vehicle that we have owned and we have been fortunate to have owned numerous from the high $$ end. We were convinced with the top quality of a modern Porsche.

Cross shopped: Lexus RX350 AWD F Sport, 2018 BMW X3 (xDrive30i and X3 M40i) and X5, Maserati SUV (I forgot the name), Jaguar F Pace. Our findings: the Lexus and BMW - both very nice, high end quality, reliable (especially Lexus), well made. Lexus is more SUV in terms of handling, the BMW more car like and both seemed in a league just below Porsche in terms of materials, fit and finish, etc. As for the Maserati and Jaguar, they seemed to be in the Porsche league (materials, fit and finish) and both drove exceptionally well. Thing is, I am leery of owning a Maserati or Jaguar after say two years, simply due to reliability records / scores of each.

Porsche Macan S buying experience: "wunderbar"! (wonderful)
Hubby did his homework on Friday night and obtained USAA (military) vs MSRP pricing to include the Macan S with every option.
Saturday morning, 8am, he emailed the build and pricing offer to the manager at Braman West Palm Beach Porsche.
Saturday morning, 9:20am, Porsche manager located our build, agreed to offer. Hubby went to work (job).
Saturday afternoon, 4:30pm, we arrive at Braman Porsche dealership, warmly greeted. Reviewed the order, placed a deposit, signed the purchase agreement, salesman then brought up a similarly equipped Macan on the lot so I could become familiar. Hubby still "working" (on call), had to leave dealership after 3 hours. Very pleasurable dealership experience. No haggle, no crap, treated with respect, etc. Seldom can one claim to have a "pleasurable experience" at a dealership?

Anyway... just wanted to say "hi" to fellow Macan owners / drivers. Taking pics is sort of "our thing" and will post pics of my 2018 Macan S when it arrives.

Interesting... our garage and driveway has several vehicles and 3 of them are new with the same color scheme, white exterior with red leather interiors. It was not our intent to do that, simply those colors looked good on that given make / model. (2017 Corvette GS, 2018 BMW M240i and soon 2018 Macan S).

Welcome great intro with some quality thoughts. Looking forward to your pictures and am sure you’ll be happy with your car. The spec sheet looks like a nice build.

Ahh, but it sounds neat (even a bit naughty) when it's a gal, doesn't it? ;)

Thanks for the welcome guys. I added a few pics to my "garage" of my 2015 Boxster S and 2017 Vette GS. After taking delivery of the 2018 Macan S, pics will be posted.

Welcome @DropTopGal

You're on of the few forum members that look good in a bikini. Nice to have another lady in here.

:D

Thanks (blush). South Florida... nice cars, tiny bikinis, tropical weather, etc. ... and I happen to be one of "those" over 40'something (ok, over 50 something.. ouch!) who stays fit and still draw lustful eyes wearing a tiny bikini and drives a nice car. :x

Welcome aboard. I too had numerous Lexi bland but reliable appliance transports. When I told my Wife I wanted to buy the Porsche Macan S she thought I was going to raid my Daughter's College fund. She was surprised at the not a 911 price for our Macan S.
You will never go back to Lexus once you experience time in your new Porsche.

Fully agree and luv the "raid my Daughter's College fund" comment. LOL :D I am a mom too so can relate. Our sons just completed their undergrad and their college fund was not raided.

My online nick name actually was meant to reference a CONVERTIBLE CAR (aka "droptop") and me being a woman (aka "gal") and dates back to the mid-2000s. Of course my hubby loved it and the double meaning holds true, very true. Yup, topless beaches. Of course in the Corvette world, it was a catchy, snappy online name that was well received (gee, I wonder why), so it sort of stuck.

Hey DTG,

Great to see you here. We were both Corvette Forum members here in So Fla and you helped me with the audio shop recommendation.

I was going to reach out to you because you left the Vette for a Porsche and I hadn't seen you again, and now I am considering the Macan GTS.

I am looking at Braman too.

Enjoy your ride.

Dan

Hi Dan...
Yup, had a 3 year hiatus of owning a Vette and went with a Porsche (car). Now have the 2017 Corvette GS and the new Macan S in the stable of cars. My Macan S is arriving on the ship at Jacksonville in 1 hour / 45 min from the time when submitting this post. LOL  Geesh, only people like us in the forums track their cars?!

Regarding Braman or any other Porsche dealer... getting invoice pricing to effectively negotiate is a challenge and many use the general rule of 4 to 7% off MSRP, sometimes a bit more. My resourceful hubby was able to get the dealer invoice pricing (not the factory invoice) just so we were well informed. At Braman, we got a fair deal without any haggling. Send me a PM if you want more info.

That is why I am looking at the GTS. I am still going to track the car, but need it to be more practical when not on the track. I will hit you up when I am closer to purchasing.

I agree, trying to get the invoice price is tough. I can get an idea, but I usually negotiate pretty hard, and the Macan GTSes are pretty desirable. This will make it tough.

Also, I remember your hubby from a few times at HP Sales. ;)

Update: my ship has come in! LOL:laugh: I saw the Goodwood on merchant tracking as it entered the Port of Jacksonville. My Macan S is on that ship. Dealership said that when a unit (vehicle) has a customer name associated with it, the "port" processes those units first. Time shall tell.

Tick Tock... My new 2018 Macan S received it's US green card, cleared customs, got its US birth certificate and cleared the "port" (Jacksonville, FL) My Macan S has been loaded on the covered car transport truck and will be coming home to mama tomorrow. Providing everything goes as scheduled, pick up will be on Thursday! Whooo Hoooo
BTW... was able to get another $500 off the deal to my favor. Imagine that.

#21 ·
Good news but why did they take another $500 off?

#22 ·
Why another $500 off you ask. Perhaps my... womanly charm? mesmerizing DDD persuasion? seductive posturing? :x

Just teasing around, truth is my husband took care of it and he lacks the aforementioned features....go figure. The "mandatory" dealer fees, he had them back it out from the sale price. ;)

Tick tock... 3 Porsche transport trucks from Jacksonville arrived at my dealership today, all with 911s. More in-bound trucks due tomorrow. Porsche tracking shows that my Macan S is on the truck and heading towards South Florida (that's me). Tick tock... tomorrow (Thursday) may be "the day". 0:)
