I think this deserves its own thread.

I don’t own a Macan with PCM4.0 (mine is PCM3.1), but my 2018 718 does have PCM4.0 and I was able to activate CarPlay using this DIY in the first 3 hours of ownership…. I was also able to update the Navi Map to 2022 version. Someone already tested this in a Macan with PCM4.0 successfully.

I know there are some folks out there offering CarPlay activation services, using similar or these same tools… but this is a great DIY alternative offered at no cost by the publisher. Instructions are very straight forward and all you need is an SD card.

Thanks Santirx- I did go to the green menu, confirmed that both CarPlay and Android Auto were checked and clicked save and then did a reboot. The CarPlay icon did not show on the menu screen after the reboot. I was wondering if I need to use an obd tool to enable CarPlay?

This is correct. You don’t have wireless CarPlay. You’ll need a aftermarket device such as carlinkit to enable wireless CarPlay.

And yes, @wobbletop is correct. You need to connect the phone in order for the CarPlay icon to show. Even after the first CarPlay pairing, when you disconnect the phone the icon will disappear. It only shows with the phone connected and properly paired with CarPlay.

I did an upgrade with an Android unit from PCM3.1, but know of some folks who have used my videos as guidance to upgrade PCM4.0 in 2017/18 Macan.

You just need to make sure that the fiber converter is MOST150.

Installing another 12.3" Android Radio unit in my 2015 Porsche Macan...

Does the PCM 5.0 toolbox work the same "automated" way
No, it's not an insert sdcard and do the thing solution. You do need an Ethernet dongle that you plug into the car and then use a generator over a specific port to get a handshake to gain root access while in the RED menu (two finger salute top right) once you have root you can then use the toolbox to upgrade similar to mib.

I have links for all the free software that that team released. They are at mibsolution.one where they also host their more incredible bash

Hi all,

I want to perform the hack on my 2017 Macan. It has already Carplay but I am a big fan of the Google ecosystem hence I need Android auto.

Before starting I haver a few questions for you guys, there are a few things I am not entirely sure to understand:

  1. Have you performed the "automatic install" as recommended ?
    1. I am in the Europe region, does it make any difference?
    2. Does the automatic update select the correct version automatically?
    3. Is Android Auto enabled directly?
    4. Does it also perform a full backup?
  2. My car has Carplay enabled, is it a problem (I assume not)?
  3. I understand that the BOSE update will not be installed, but how can I double-check to be 100% sure?
    1. What to search for in the file metainfo2.txt to confirm there is no risk?
  4. Will the automatic update also update the maps (I do not think so)?
  5. Is it possible that the unit go in sleep mode during the process and if so what do I need to do?
  6. It says it is recommended to have an external power connected to the car and not the engine running, is a battery charger connected under the hood good enough?
    1. Is it absolutely necessary or just a precaution?
    2. Did you have a charger connected while patching your car?
  7. Could a future update at my Porsche dealer disable Android Auto?
  8. How long does the process take roughly?

Sorry for the long post and thank you for your answers !

I’ll answer the questions I can or know for a fact, but it seems based on the fact that you already have CarPlay but want the Android feature, you may be the first one to try this…. Keep in mind that my answers are based on my experience with my 2018 718 Cayman PCM 4.0 (not my Macan)… but PCM is basically the same.

1. YES
1.1. I know of many folks in the 718 forum from many parts of the world that have done this without any issues
1.2. You need to download the correct file for your serial number and copy it in appropriate folder as instructed. Then it does installation automatically.
1.3. No. You need to enter MIB green menu and search for the option and enable it by checking the box.
1.4. It allows you to perform a full backup. Please do so.

2. I assume is not an issue either, but can’t say for sure. You can ask the person that published instructions. He is very accessible.

3. I’m not sure what you mean by Bose update. This doesn’t do any Bose update
3.1. Unsure

4. No. Different process. You download correct map and then you install via PCM options.

5. Mine didn’t go into sleep mode. The installation will most likely keep the unit awake. And is relatively quick.

6. Battery charger connected under hood post is a must. Do not risk it.

7. Unlikely.

8. MIB installation takes probably about 5 minutes. About 20 minutes total, if I remember correctly.

Regarding the Bose issue, there are numerous reports of owners left with no sound after installing MIB on cars with a Bose sound system.

My Macan has Bose, that's why before going for it I want to be hundred percents sure the system will not be updated.

I have found the AIO pre-packaged update which specifically says it will not updtae the Bose system. Now, there is no pre-packaged AIO fw for my specific fw version. Am I taking a big risk upgrading from P3299 to K5126?

I had head of these "numerous posts" about no audio on the Bose system, but upon searching, I could not find any. I figured if it was a real problem, it would be easier to find these issues documented online somewhere.

I did the MIB install on my 2017 GTS with Bose to enable carplay/AA without issue.

The only thing I can say on this is that I also have Bose and didn’t experience any issue with my MIB CarPlay activation on my 718. The other thing I can say is that there are many folks in the 718 forum who have done this activation on their PCM 4 with Bose via MIB without issues.

I can also say that very early on, there were some people in the 718 forum also asking this same question about Bose, who later applied the MIB CP activation successfully.

718 forum link here for reference:

But, if this is a real concern, then for sure I encourage you to find more information before you do the update. And then post here for others to benefit.

Thank you for the feedback, I most likely will go for the OIA package.

My only remaining concern is regarding the potential risk of upgrading from my current firmware which is P3299 to the version of the AIO package i.e. K5126. I was afraid those were completely different firmware trains because of the different letters but I learned that P stands for factory installed and K for fw upgrades installed at a dealership.

I don't think this is a big deal, but I applying the rule that says "Whenever there is any doubt, there is no doubt"

I think I'm going to give this a shot today. 2017 Macan S w/Bose. POG11_P3300 is my version. My only concern is that I don't really have a way to keep the car connected to power other than running another vehicle and connecting jumpers or using my motorcycle battery tender, which is not very powerful.

Updating from my last reply. It appears M.I.B was installed correctly when I first tried last week. Today I started working on it again and am able to get to the GEM, however, when I try to run the patch_unit_aio I receive an error that the "Unit holds an unknown patch" and am not able to get past this. Any ideas?

Hi All,

First post on this forum.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I got this method to work on '18 GTS.
I mainly wanted to unlock AA, as i was previously using a Carplay to AA converter, and it was very laggy (particularly phone calls).

AA seems to work like a native AA should work in the car. very little if any noticeable lag, and phone calls dont have any noticeable delay.
