Dash cam installation - Thinkware U1000

Couldn't find much info on how to install a front dash cam and how it's routed on the Macan, thought I'd share my experience.

Installed a 1 channel Thinkware U1000 with the Blackboxmycar battery pack in the trunk fuse box area. Don't make my mistake and use the supplied female cigarette lighter if you want to run parking mode, it will not work. You'll need the Thinkware splice kit Blackboxmycar sells. Opt for the 1CH than the 2CH front and rear as the rear camera doesn't record motion during parking mode. The rear will only record if the front camera detects motion or impact. Going to purchase the Blackvue DR750X for the rear. My installation might be a bit too much and there are easier ways to do this install.

I painted my dash cam in Musou Black, darkest black I know of. Less discreet and not as noticeable from the outside.

Pop off the fuse box cover. Be careful and not break the tab on the top of the cover.

Started to route the cable through this location

Not imaged, but you'll have to pop off the panels. First panel that needs to be popped out is the panel right above the fuse box cover. It doesn't need to come off, just need to pop it out. Then remove the panel that have the speaker and 3rd is the seatbelt cover.

Pulled the cable through that hole. Make sure your cable doesn't get in the way of the side airbags.

Right above the rear small window, you'll see a hanger location that looks like the image below. There is a 30 torx bolt that needs to be removed. High chance the bolt will drop, so cover the lower area with some cloth to catch the bolt.

Feed the cable through the headliner. I slipped it through from the edge of the window. With the bolt removed from image above, the headliner can move a bit.

Remove the handle bar bolts. You will uncover the bolts if you use a flat head and pop the cover down.

Like the trunk area, there is a hidden 30 torx bolt inside. Be careful not to drop the bolt. Advise to magnetize the torx head before removing

Keep the cable above the headliner. Again, make sure not to get in the way of the airbag.

Use a plastic tool and push the cable in.

More handle bar bolt removal of the front passenger

Remove the A-pillar, the bolt is hidden in the airbag plastic cover. Route the cable all the way down and not interfere with the airbag.

All the way down and back up. Best to loop it under latch that catches to the body.

Remove the sun visor bolt. Bolt is also hidden like the handle bars. Don't need to remove it completely, just that bolt will do.

Remove the center black rim around the top center light. Start by pulling on the back (towards the windshield, then use a plastic tool to slowly pop the tabs. They break easily, so take it slow. Then pull on the windshield cover down towards the floor.

Route the cable to the desired mount location.

Just curious, don’t know what the blackboxmycar battery pack is but seems a very long winded way routing from the rear of the car vs my install (piggyback fuse in the compartment at end of dash, using plastic tool to tuck wiring behind the roof and a pillar).
Is there a benefit or do you just like pulling the car to bits?
