Hi! I am hearing a clicking noise from the engine of my 2015 Macan S. Oil level and pressure are Ok. The noise is more prominent on idle or low speeds; does not seem to affect acceleration. Any ideas? Also, any recommendations on a Porsche specialist I can take the Macan to for diagnosis? Would appreciate any comments! Thanks!

Just search HPFP and vacuum pump. Both tick. The vacuum pump can even be heard from the drivers seat through the dashboard as it is close to the firewall. Usually only when car is cold. The HPFP's sit on top of the engine and can be very loud.

I replaced my vacuum pump yesterday but the tech said not to worry about the HPFP's - they're all noisy.

Other ticking noises can be more serious - internal plastic chain guides can fail - and can cost a fortune to fix. It could also be bore-scoring, much rarer but possible. Search is your friend.

If you will just remove the engine cover, then take a length of small diameter tubing or a wood dowel, hold one end to your ear and place the other in various places to find the source of the sound. It will probably be one of the High Pressure Fuel Pumps. Excessively loud indicates imminent failure.
