CarPlay retrofit with Joyeauto - questions / help

Hello,
I already read a lot of posts in the forum about CarPlay retrofit but did not find any comment about my problems.
I have a Macan S 2015 retrofitted with Joyeauto (well, a clone, anyway) since yesterday.
Well, I lost my center box usb power and both 12v plugs, I am not able to charge my iPhone through those...?
Also, when I am in Carplay mode, the parking sensors do not show on the screen, is it normal?
Thanks for any help...

I’m not sure what you are referring to with the blanking plug. Can you elaborate?

For your second set of questions, the MOST fiber wire needs to be connected directly to the head unit. The reason you move it is because there is a harness that you have to install between the head unit and the OEM harness.

Hence, you need to relocate the MOST fiber wire from OEM harness plug to the provided harness plug so that it is directly connected to the head unit.

To answer your question, YES… I needed to do this with my currently installed system too.

Ah okay.

Ignore blanking plug comment. I see further up you said audio doesn't work without it being plugged in

Oh, I see what you are saying. Is that dummy plug.

The answer to that question is, audio through AUX will not work without the plug. Audio through PCM USB will still work.

The way I’m using the CarPlay module, I connect the phone through wired PCM USB for audio. But then connect to CarPlay wireless through WIFI to transmit image. Hence, I have the CarPlay image, but audio is pass through PCM USB digitally (no DAC though AUX). Is the best compromise I found to be able to use CarPlay while preserving digital audio.

The drawback is that I need a procedure during startup. I can’t connect the phone until after the CarPlay is connected through WIFI. Then, once I connect it, I select iPod in the PCM (instead of AUX) and then go to the CarPlay screen.

Also, I don’t have audio from apps (like Waze or Apple Maps). Only Google Maps is able to transmit audio.

Good compromises. Work for me.

Received today. Hasn't got off to the best of starts.

1. I have damaged one of the vents trying to remove it (it was super stiff and I gave it my all, and it slipped and broke some tabs on the fins inside the vent)
2. I have a module inside my pcm3.1 which means I need to order more standoffs 2 per corner
3. Whilst I was testing my 2 per corner method the first stand off just snapped odd in the hole when I was screwing it in by hand.

Hoping the standoffs I have ordered will arrive tomorrow I can complete install and report back.

Check the vent. Vent fins may just be dislodged from their slots. That happened to me once and was able to get them back in place.

Mine is still in transit.

Managed to save one of the two vents by swapping bits over to make one of them functional again.

Now only need to buy one vent instead of two.

Let me tell you the video on YouTube of someone removing a vent on a macan must be fake or vent was already pulled. They make it look like they give it a gently tug, so gentle in fact, it made me think there may have been some sort of tabs (there's not).

Highly suggest either buy the official tool or maybe a decent long pick/hook set will do

Agree @Don16 with the vent. Is very hard to take out. What I did, after I took it out, I placed the tool where I was supposed to be pulling from (top back side corner of the vent) and marked the tool at the exact depth, for future reference to ensure I’m pulling from the right place.

Since I did that, I had been able to take it out a couple of additional times without any issues.

I hopefully I can fit tomorrow once standoffs arrive.

BTW - I can confirm the following:
1. No aux blanking plug (did you say this was needed for audio to work via aux) maybe they found away around this and audio takes over aux channel/button.

2. There is no external box. Everything I included in photo is what I recieved.

3. It came with a microphone which looks like knockoff oem. This means it will fit in oem microphone slot with no modification or if you already have it should just use from the offset.

Can you show where the OEM mic would go? I don’t have it, and have no idea where is the space to install it.

Installed this today.

Pros:
  • Wireless android auto works well and no dropouts experienced yet
  • no issues with it switching to 360 surround cameras when going in to reverse
  • Uses factory built in microphone (Bluetooth) for hey google/siri
  • Snappy interface, very quick with no lag (using an Samsung S9)
  • Everything works as before with no issues.

Negatives
- Audio quality is definitely worse. I would say 20-30% worse. However it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I played around with EQ on pcm and switching off surround definitely improves things as does playing around with the android auto unit EQ.
I also keep audio on android auto unit at 35 out of 40 which seems to help quality.
Think audio would be better on AUX BT but that's not possible with android auto, not that I have found anyways.
- There is an option (see image) factory usb switch, not worked out what this does as it doesn't seem to do anything and switches off after a while.

Any questions ask away.

Video coming soon...

Thanks.

Disappointed to hear about the audio quality, but not quite unexpected. I just had hopes that it would sound better. Let’s see when I receive mine.

About the mic, does that mean that you didn’t have to use the provided microphone, and that it integrated with the existing OEM one?

Also, are you connecting directly via the provided USB input and using wired AUX?

Nice video! It helps in anticipation of my install.

When I saw you connecting the large ribbon wire to the wrong slot I was like “Noooo! Don16… the other one!” 😂

Good thing that you caught it. I knew you were going to figure out when trying to connect the ribbons on the CarPlay board, as they would not fit.

Also, if I remember correctly, you don’t have to remove the top two screws in the rear of the CD player to be able to remove it… I may be wrong… long time since I did it last.

Good move passing the wire harnesses through the SiriusXM slot.

Again, great video man! Hoping to share and exchange more ideas when mine arrives. I’ll be replacing the older model of the CarPlay module. This will give me good perspective and I’ll be able to compare both setups.

The verdict is its probably the same as joyauto, maybe a bit better (haven't got joyauto to check, It still routes audio out and then back in via aux.

If we could find a way or a solution to route audio via aux Bluetooth whilst connected to carplay, audio would be better. However I think this limitation is carplay android auto rather than the unit. Just wish they could have used another method for audio just logically I'm not sure how they could.

One issue I have been having is I can't seem to get Google assistance to work when asking it to do stuff, it recognises my voice fine and command appears on the screen but it just always says "Something went wrong, please try again". Google news and weather is working as is maps.

No. I cant have Waze of Apple Maps pass audio through iPod wired connection when in Wireless Carplay.

The only map application that works is Google Maps because it gives you the audio output option in the app.
