CarPlay retrofit with Joyeauto - questions / help

Hello,
I already read a lot of posts in the forum about CarPlay retrofit but did not find any comment about my problems.
I have a Macan S 2015 retrofitted with Joyeauto (well, a clone, anyway) since yesterday.
Well, I lost my center box usb power and both 12v plugs, I am not able to charge my iPhone through those...?
Also, when I am in Carplay mode, the parking sensors do not show on the screen, is it normal?
Thanks for any help...

I installed it myself and the backup camera doesn’t display when in CarPlay mode. I have to press NAVI everytime I have to reverse . Also the new harness would NOT power up my screen so I ended up using the original harness. The tech support on WhatsApp responds once every 2 days so I couldn’t get proper help I needed. Might be returning it

So finally installed my Joyeauto carplay today. Just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone on this forum. All your advice helped me avoid all the pitfalls. I used @Santirx's approach to the LCD wire rather than drilling a hole, although I had to bend the terminal connector slightly with some pliers to be able to align the screw.

I decided to store mine on the driver's side in the space under the front console between the steering wheel and the door. Apparently, it's the placement Joyeauto recommends and I can see why. There's acres of space there! It's all just bundled in at the moment but I'll use some zip ties and velcro to get it all strapped in there safely. I've not yet found a neat route for the USB port, but since I have no interest in mirroring or a wired connection I've just left it tucked in there with the rest of the wires.

The only issue I've had is when I switch out to the standard PCM using the Navi button, it seems to struggle to switch back. I hold it down for 5 or so seconds and when I let go it seems to spasm between the two. Turning the car on and off seems to sort it. Hoping it's just a teething issue.

But overall I'm delighted with it. Reverse cam and everything kicks in automatically. And for the record, fitting that new wiring loom in is a b****!

So I've discovered one annoyance with the Joyeauto CarPlay. The audio quality is significantly diminished if you have the BOSE set up. Does anyone know if this is because of the quality of the aux cable in the Joyeauto set or because it seems to be putting a straight stereo output through the speakers and the tweeters at the front can't hack it? If it's the former, I'll try swapping out the cable for a higher quality gold plated one or I'll make one with some decent speaker wire, if the latter I'll see if I can find some relatively inexpensive tweeters to replace the BOSE ones.

I know there are workarounds by playing music directly through the PCM, but it defeats the purpose of the total convenience of CarPlay.

Just installed the carplay from Sinairyu from aliexpress. What a royal PITA. I have installed carplay on like 5 cars in my life and this one is definitely the most time consuming. Between installation and figuring out where to put the box it took me like 10-12 hours I guess. I ended up removing the glovebox and attaching the box above it to make it clean.

But despite this being a royal PITA the result is well worth it and it works flawless (not to jinx). And what's more important - the steering wheel button works to skip track. What happens is when I turn the car on the carplay connects right away and then the phone connects via PCM bluetooth. This way I have carplay on the carplay sceen with maps and I have music from itunes on the dash screen. (or on carplay if not in use).

So although it's a PITA it's the best non-OEM carplay integration I've ever seen and I will take PCM 3.1 carplay with ability to skip tracks from the steering wheel vs PCM 4.0+ carplay where I can't skip tracks. I also love that I can see the music track on the dashboard screen and have the radio to show maps in full screen mode. Amazing!

I haven't tried the track skip from the steering wheel on my Joyeauto install (2016 Macan S), but I was disappointed the phone button on the steering wheel does not invoke Siri - instead it brings up the phone book from the iPhone connected via Bluetooth. The Phone button on the PCM unit, does bring up Siri.

Just did a few tests. Holding phone button on the steering wheel brings up siri. I am not sure if waze/google directions work but I hear the sound of voice input, didn't go anywhere so can't confirm that directions work but that is not 100%.

The volume button pauses/resumes itunes music and next track skips. I can listen to this via AUX or via AUX BT. AUX BT seem to be better quality so I use this one.

I can also switch to sirius XM (it's inactive for me) and carplay stays. Here are a few pictures.

JUKEBOX input doesn't work together with carplay and switches back and forth.

When I change AUX which uses carplay to BT I hear immediate sound difference. The only problem is in this set up carplay disconnects all the time. Even if this device will allow carplay through OEM BT it will be a huge sound improvement. So I don't think they need much research to figure out how to increase sound quality.

If my BT is connected to PCM and Carplay module there will be connection issues. Santirx described his issues with joyauto which are exactly as mine, I don't expect that these modules are different.

AUX is poor connection even without carplay module, so I don't think it's hardware limitation of a carplay unit, rather poor general AUX quality. If new modules allows audio feed outside of AUX it could easily increase audio quality.

I’m having second thoughts here, after doing more research on this. It’s seems you still need that external box. And based on the wire harnesses I’m seeing, it doesnt look that different from what I already have. The integration would not be different. You most likely be required to use AUX, although not sure, as I’m not seeing the AUX dongle - that may be an indication that audio goes in some other way... I’m not willing to use AUX for audio input. Is inherently of less quality.

The wire harnesses needed look almost identical…

There is a box…. This lead me to believe that Is the same label of integration to other systems. Granted, improved, but if is not solving the issues I need, then I’ll be using it exactly as I’m using the one I have…. But, the lack of the AUX dongle is really throwing me off here. It could really mean AUX is not used.

Not sure about this. I still need to think about it. In the end, the only way to know for sure is buying it and testing it. But going through the effort to replace the one I have is a consideration…

It would be great to have access to installation and setup instructions.

What does the aux dongle look like that you are referring to?

Hey Santrix, i am in communication with the Vendor, EBILAEN. They say it does not use AUX.
They are sending me the install manual.....I will email it to you.

Cool. Yes, please… send me the manual when you get it. I’m now more comfortable pulling the trigger on this.

The images are clearly wrong. If you check other sellers, the antennas attach to the board.

I did see that image so asked seller and he confirmed no external box.

OK, that is a good sign.
