I'm really not getting this obsession. Looks to me like a cheap paint job with the safety markings clearly showing through? And sickly yellow lighting glow? Bizarre.

Why not do the red rear markers too while you are at it? And a rattle can of black paint over the headlights surely would look cool with a nice gray glow at night.

Maybe the safety marking might be a clue. Or the fact that Porsche went out of their way to implement 2 separate bulb failure sensors and MFD warnings just for these lamps.

These lights are there for a reason no matter how marginal some may claim and its not to look like someone did a $100 paint job on the whole car without using masking tape.

I put some nice bright PURE amber LED's in them. Bright enough to fill any blind spot for careless lane changers at night something that even with the internet proving they are worthless, forgot to measure just like they forgot that many current headlights can have little to no side lobes.

Looks much nicer too.

Sometimes you gotta just try it yourself....
.

  • PROS: Color Match is really dead on.
CONS: No visible Illumination during the daytime, and Very Little Illumination at night.

Please forgive me for offending you so much.

Clear Front Side Markers

Has anyone come across replacement clear lens assemblies for the amber front side markers for the Macan ? In Clear with the amber bulbs keeping it illegal.
A common change out on Boxsters etc. and other brands. A much improved look for many body colors. I have exhausted my searching for the Macan with hopes someone can provide some information or direction.
Thanks much guys

Not as easy as other models. Was told by the dealer that to install new clear side markers, bumper has to come off for proper installation from behind...Once I heard that, decided it wasn't that important:)

Nonsense. Install would be an easy diy. The problem is that clear side markers don't exist for the Macan.

So ya unplugging the bulb throws an error as already mentioned.

As an aside, pg 325 is not accurate on the 2018 manuals. I guess the manuals were reorganized? Its on page 132 in the 2018 manuals.

In any case, I still couldn't do it even with the images in the manual. I have no idea how to line up the screw driver when you are sticking it through 1 hole. You can pretty much rotate it to any angle. I ended up pulling the wheel liner... was much faster. Even with the wheel liner pulled, and the screw driver through the hole, I still was unable to guide it to the clip - in short, I have no idea how you guys were doing it and what angle you were putting the screw driver at.

So if someone can give me some tips on how to line up/angle the screwdriver, that would help. Otherwise, Im just pulling up the liner which takes 2 mins.

In any case, to eliminate the light bleed, the idea is to remove the bulb and wire out of the sidemarker housing and leave them tucked inside the car body. That should fix the light bleed.

I won't even get into the ridiculous debate of 'sidemarkers being an important safety feature that shouldn't be modified'.. By that train of thought, the airbag warning on the sun visor is crucial safety information that is critical to the driver, needs to be visible at all times, and any method to conceal or cover it seriously jeopardizes the safety of the occupants. LOL

Use a screwdriver with as thick a shaft as possible and without a wider blade. That probably means a Philips screwdriver.

The hole is long and oriented to point to the exact location of the spring clip. If you could find an exact fit for the shaft then it would only hit the spring clip.

The front wheels need to be turned to full lock.

I've left the bulb in the new replacement side markers and 1) done a light sand on them and sprayed high-temp black paint on them, and 2) wrapped them in small pieces of black heat-tape. No issues and no light bleed; and no fault on the dash. :)

As for the screwdrivers, stick that thing in the hole and leverage to the front using your outside hand as a guide.. you want to use your free hand to be even with your screwdriver hand in order to guide appropriately and evenly. Then use some effort. I've got this as easy-to-do 50% of the time, and **** frustrating 50% of them time. :D

I would probably smoke it with VHT Night Shades until the clear ones become available. I also have an Agate grey S and it would look fine with smoked side markers. The film just doesn't cut it for me (I have it now) as the orange still shows quite clearly. That's what I ama about to do this weekend - spray and smoke it.

Smoking is very bad for your health. Especially as a first time poster. When you get some posts under your belt, you'll be better suited to withstand the smoke and mirrors you are spreading.

I'm a big fan of the painted reflectors. I did it to my mine but instead of opting for the Bumper Plug version I just made my own with the stock reflector. I sanded down the raised part numbers to make the reflector completely flat before painting it, which is why I didn't use the bumper plug version.

Clear side reflectors

Can’t believe with volume of US Macan sales some entrepreneur with right skill set can’t produce these with amber LED lighting—I would if I could and would be happy to donate some upfront development “costs.” Rather be safe with the lighting than painted or smoked.

Agreed. I've done this with previous vehicles and I'm surprised that nothing seems to be available in terms of a clear housing with a white and/or amber bulb for the Macan.
