So how did you convince them to replace the brake pads? Did they say the pads were bad from the beginning and that is why they squeaked? Ours have literally squeaked since the first week but it was cold and wintry so I chalked it up to the cold. But then when the weather got better, the squeaking remained the same. They "cleaned them up" once and must have put something on them to temporarily make the squeaking stop but it was back within a week. I have sped up and jammed on them many times, to the point of getting motion sickness, but I don't know how long I am supposed to do that? Every time I drive? For weeks? Months? You know what I mean?

Oh and to be clear, we didn't pay for the pads, it was warrantied. It was a PIA taking it back over and over again, but unfortunately that's what it took.

Squeaking brakes are not normal. It has nothing to do with the so called "bed in" the pads. We just got ours a couple of weeks ago and hope this would not happen. If it does happen, I would change the brake pads to ceramic pads (the brake dust is bad with the OEM pads and for that matter all German imports). If that does not eliminate it, I would contact Porsche directly regarding this issue since the dealers are not doing anything about it.

Since "bedding" hasn't worked, you might have to take it back to the dealership or find another dealership that's willing to replace the pads, but for the time being, try this, after driving for about 5 mins and you're at a light, depress the brake pedal almost all the way and then lift to get it back to the normal braking position, see if it works. I have used this technic to temporarily stop squeaky brakes. Hope you get the issue resolved soon.

Mine had the squeaking brake issue in the beginning. I took it on the track one day where the brakes took a beating.....and no more squeak.

since day 1, my SA told me to break hard at the beginning and don't be shy about it. since then it's no problem.

Porsche pads are hard, and hard brakes will tend to squeal over time. What's worked for me, is go to a long stretch of open country road, when the brakes are already warmed up from normal applications, go about 70, then brake really hard (short of ABS kicking in), to about 10 mph. Repeat 4 times, then allow to cool for a couple miles before applying them again. Works every time, and last quite a while.

Knock on proverbial wood, but I've had 3 Macans, first for 500 miles, second for 8,000 miles, and now 12,000 miles and I've never heard a hint of any brake squeak, squeal, or any other noise for that matter.


I do not believe brake squeak is normal and while I try to let very little actually annoy me, that would annoy the crap out of me in such an expensive and supposed high quality car.


If I couldn't get to the bottom of it and fast, it'd be on the trading block real quick.

What @bobblehead and @Goodwood said works fine for me. So does remembering to change my braking style when I switch cars; the non-P-car begins braking at the lightest contact, whereas the Macan seems to prefer fairly firm pressure.

I bought a 2016 Macan S on December 30, 2015. Brakes have squeaked since.....HELP!

If hard braking, or bedding the brake pads hasn't worked for you, then the next step is to take the car to the dealership for service.

It is not uncommon for dealerships to say brake squealing is normal, or that you need to do more aggressive braking. Not true. Be prepared to push back by saying you've tried all the do-it-yourself fixes and the problem persists. Getting the dealership to resolve the issue will likely require you to be very persistent, and may require multiple visits to the service department.

My 2016 Macan S has been squealing almost daily for as long as I have had it. 11 months. Really noticeable in summer and always in the first 20 minutes of driving. Probably happens as much in the winter but I don't notice as much as windows are closed due the cold weather. Complained long time ago and dealer service said it is normal. Even owners manual mentions it's normal. It's freaking driving me crazy I keep all my windows closed because I don't want to hear that **** loud squeal. People don't look at my car because it is nice, they look at it because of the freaking squeal. Tried all the remedies espoused here and no luck. Have a anniversary oil change coming up and will try to convince the dealer to do something. My absolute biggest regret so far in buying this car.

Bummer to have to live with that for so long. Many new cars have slight brake squeal due to having sat around for a month or two while it transit, or sitting on the dealership lot. And for many of those cars, the squeal will go away in the first few weeks of ownership.

But for brake squeal to continue as long as it has in your case, the brakes need to be disassembled, cleaned, lubed, and reassembled. If none of the local dealerships are willing to address the issue under warranty, and complaints to Porsche NA come to naught, it might be time to find an independent Porsche performance shop. They should know how to fix it......but they will likely charge you for the service. It is an issue that can be resolved....but it takes some persistence to get it done properly. My 2016 S brakes eventually stopped squealing after 12 months with 7,500 miles... It was a bit embarrassing at every stop though.

you tried any hard stopping to bed in the brakes ? If your dealer cannot help, then go to another dealer. Or I can bed in the brakes for you ... for free. I think you live close to my area ? Bayview & Finch area

Yeah , I tried the hard breaking already. I'm going to see Joe at Pfaff next month and see if he can help.Might take you up on your offer if all fails.

Ask Joe to go on a test drive with you and hopefully, it will squeal at the time of test driving. Request the brakes pads be removed and sanded down the rough edges and see if it is the fix.

Hi guys, new owner here. Picked up a 2017 GTS few weeks back. Have had the brake squeal from day 1, 0 miles. I called up the SA and they advised what has been mentioned on this forum, to bed it in by hard braking. It's now at 500+ miles and I'm still hearing it.

Why is this normal? First owned Porsche and obviously a little paranoid that there is something up with the brakes.

The brake squeal is not normal, The vast majority of Macan's have quiet brakes. However, it is very normal for dealerships (especially the SA's) to deny there is an issue requiring service.

Be persistent, and pursue a warranty fix with the service department. Best of luck getting it resolved quickly.
