Anyone own(ed) a recent Range Rover Sport V8?

Has anyone owned (or currently own) a recent Range Rover Sport with the V8? (HSE, Dynamic, Autobiography, SVR, etc...).

It looks like my M3 is still probably 6 months out, and I just have the bug for something new. The RRS caught my attention, and all the reviews I've found for the latest rev (2018+) have been very positive. It's clear Land Rover has really upped their game.

I've never had the chance to drive one so I'm looking for comparisons to the Macan Turbo, or any Macan really. I did have the chance to sit in a 2019 SVR at the dealer and left impressed with how solid and well put together it felt (finishes were above Porsche's IMHO). Sadly, this one had fairly high miles and was in the middle of the showroom, so no test drives unless you agreed to buy it first.

I'm not really looking for comments on reliability or off road capabilities....just drivability on paved roads. Power, speed, handling, fun factor, etc...

Thanks!

Not the V8 but the V6 Supercharged. It’s a nice place to be in, handling, no way around it, it’s a boat. You can’t hide all that weight. The Macan will feel like a hot hatch compared to the RRS. There is almost a 2000 pound difference between the two?

the V8 sounds amazing but only expect straight line speed. Go around a corner and you’re going to be using a lot of brakes.

I'm gonna suggest you read the reviews on the RRS and the SVR. Two different animals. Now, if you're asking about reliability, I would suggest you buy a plain 'ol vanilla Jeep. It' more reliable thn any version of the RR.

I was not able to confirm this, but I had 'heard' RR developed all their own switches, parts and pieces. Those parts are not found outside the RR brand. And they didn't do a good job at it rather than sourcing tried-and-true OTS parts

Remember the Lexus model: they researched the entire industry for every unique piece that akes a Lexus. Those suckers just don't break!

I had 2 O2 sensors fail on the RRS in 1 month, lots of issues with the infotainment issues (screen freezing, locking up.)

@Draper it handles like a boat. Probably between a X5 and a Tahoe. Steering is effortless. Since you’re looking at a V8, I think you get better seats. I feel like the12 ways in my V6 was terrible. Long distance was NOT great.

A friend of mine that had a RR told me once: if you ever buy a RR, make sure you buy two. One to drive, the other for spare parts. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That is exactly what my neighbors did. There is no way they can 'flat bed' the dead ones out of my steep roadway. Why do these people buy such undependable cars (he said with both the potential Transfer Case and the Timing Case Cover problems not occurring yet and hanging over my head)?

Had a 2010 RRS with 125k miles. Was mostly solid with the occasional electrical hiccup. The motor was stout and the interior was screwed together like a tank. Have the same 5.0 NA V8 in my Jag with 126k miles and this car has been pretty much bulletproof, except for the known cooling system/manifold issues (fixed between me and my indie for $1200). The car is as tight as day one and pulls like a freight train right from tip-in. That V8 grunt is pretty addictive! I know these aren't recent MY examples, but goes to show with proper maintenance, these things can make the long haul dependably. YMMV.
