Bummer. Any chance your CPO warranty would cover this? Probably a long shot, but worth asking. If not, perhaps the dealership has an interior repair specialist they can recommend.

It's expensive to replace . I usually get full leather but had a Boxster years ago which had only leather seats , With door vinyl panels melted and warped twice . Both times it was covered but the second time was near warranty end so we (service adviser and I) looked it up .. 4 grand !!!! Yikes . Yours looks far more livable than mine was . See post number 10 as pics are on my old computer My 17' Macan GTS side mirror and door handle is melting !!!

 

Do you think this happened from heat or from impact? To me it looks more like impact.

I've used a product called Dr Vinyl to do repairs on vinyl/ plastic... and while it "welds" the crack, it doesn't necessarily make it disappear. And on the textured surface it might become more visible... but at least it would be welded together which would stop it from getting larger.

Might be worth considering.

Note: I see there is a company called Dr Vinyl that does mobile repairs. The Dr Vinyl product I have is a bottle of solvent-type liquid and some tape to temporarily pull the repaired surface together. I'm not sure if there's a relationship between the product i have (which I bought many years ago) and the Dr Vinyl service I see on the web.

 

Super glue will work, just be very careful, apply tiny bit with a needle inside the crack. It it squeezes out, don't try wiping it. Let it dry and break it off.

 

arnieosp, I'm torn there. I realize super glue is an option., However, I am worried it will leave a white / crusty seam.

I'm looking into ways to melt / weld the vinyl back together while minimizing the impact to the grain of the material. I see methods online that use a 1" diameter disc to mend torn parts. It does that well. However, you are left with a 1" diameter circle which does not match the existing grain. Furthermore, that method applies to flat surfaces. My crack is at a corner...

I’ve used the Dr Vinyl mobile service for repairs to boat vinyl upholstery and vinyl coated pieces like the arm rest with great success. Color match was near perfect. It was very durable, we kept one of the boats for serval years after its repair.

Dr Vinyl is a franchise business, so there may be one local. The local franchisee I used in the Boston area was recommended by a local upholstery shop.

May be easier and cheaper to look for a used door panel from ebay rather then mess with repairing it.
