Alignment after new tires

Replacing my Pirelli tires that wore out at 10k miles with Arturo’s, like on my previous Macan. Porsche recommends an alignment when tires are replaced. 2 questions. Should I do an alignment? Is Firestone (where I’m getting tires installed) ok place to do an alignment?

balancing does, but not alignment

Supposedly Pirelli’s only last 10k miles. Glad I’m changing them out. It’s not uneven wear either. Both inside and outside are worn. The Arturo’s should last longer.

should Firestone’s alignment be as good as dealer? ($100 vs $300)

Porsche recommends an alignment when tires are replaced.
Vandit, is this the dealer saying that, or is it buried somewhere in the owner's manual?

BTW I finally bid adieu to my OEM Conti's last week when I had my winter skins put on. Got more than 20k out of them and they might have gone one more summer, but I'll be ordering Atturo's to be installed in the spring.

Dealer. Park Place.

An alignment is called for if you are seeing uneven tire wear and/or you've had suspension
work done that would lower the car.
Disagree. A number of us have significantly lowered our Macans with lowering modules and have been driving with them lowered for more than a year (and in some cases much longer) with no apparent effect on tire wear.

I have in my life (well my over 30 years of owning cars) never done an alignment with lowering springs or changing tires. Never a problem!

This is interesting. I always struggle with the decision on alignment or not. You spend 1k+ on tires so you think about it. Dealer or tire shop always “highly recommend “. Of course.
I may pass on this in the future unless I see uneven tire wear.

I do not see why the fact of new tires would have any effect on alignment.
Hitting potholes, curbs, etc...yes.

I check tire tread wear every quarter. Always looking for signs of uneven wear.

If I see that, I will have alignment checked.

Based on experience I tend to be skeptical of anything a car dealer tells me. Dealer service departments always seem to be trying to upsell. I suspect the service writers are offered incentives for doing so, and it does not seem to be any different at the Porsche dealer.

That being said, can't say an alignment is a bad idea other than the potentially needless cost, but my reaction is that it's probably overkill unless you have reason to believe your car needs an alignment.

One other thing to point out. Given that you are buying Atturo tires, the cost ratio of the alignment to the tires is going to be unusually high (right now a set of four Atturo's from Simple Tire is only $531 delivered). Assuming you would be paying for an alignment to "protect" the tires from unusual wear, the worst case scenario is probably needing to replace a couple of tires if they are wearing incorrectly and you don't notice it. Given the very low cost of the Atturo tires, that would be far from a disaster. That's one of the reasons I'm willing to try the Atturos. If it turns out I don't like them (despite all the positive comments from forum members) it's not really a huge loss if I were to end up disposing of them.

Camber, caster, toe in, toe out & center steering wheel.
Those are the 5 alignment adjustments that I know about.
May be more if 4 wheel alignment vs. only 2.

If car does not pull left or right & tires wearing evenly, I really doubt there would be an alignment issue.

So had Firestone install my tires. Noticed some slight vibration on highway so had dealer do a “road force balance”, and an alignment. $550 later, but drives much better now. Alignment was so off tech made comment to my SA that i must have taken it off roading. (Not sure how it got so out of alignment, but I got it CPO w 10k miles on it. Maybe previous owner?)

I posted some time ago that my NEW Macan was way out from the factory. I also posted that everyone not trust the factory for ensuring your ride, any ride, is correctly aligned.

I called two different Firestone locations near my house, and one of them said he can't do it if I have anything like LKA. Other location said he can do it (he did not sound confident though..). I only have LCA, not LKA. My steering only vibrates and make sound whenever I go near lane without my blinker. Should I trust this Firestone? (only $109.99 vs $350+ at dealer). Both Firestone locations have 4.1 & 4.2 stars in Google map...
