50K Mile Service

I have my 50K mile service coming up in a few months. Looking at the service intervals I have a few things to take care of that I can do myself. I’m not sure if I want to tackle the PDK fluid change or not. I know it isn’t too difficult based on videos.

While looking at the services that need to be done the only thing that has me a little perplexed is the “Replace Cabin Pre-filter”. I know where the cabin filter is and I know where the air filter is but I’ve never heard of a cabin pre-filter. So far I can’t find anything online either.

Anyone here ever heard of that and where it would be?

I will have to snoop around my vehicle but in 2 Macan’s so far I’ve never replaced an actual pollen filter, this would be located probably under the hood as a pre-filter but this ultimately could be a typo from a 911 somehow. I know certain years of 911’s have a pollen filter, then an inside ac filter, so 2 filters total. Not aware of it on the Macan though.

I really doubt the Macan has a cabin pre-filter element.
Just a cabin filter under the dash passenger side, easy to change. MF has threads on this DIY.

Also, the things you list for your 50K service are supposed to be done @ 40K.

I changed my engine air filters @ 30K (Not 40K) bc I had to do spark plugs, which required removing the air filters.

PDK service is the expensive service.

I reached out to a website called PCarWise and they responded this morning and that is exactly what they said. The pre-filter goes inside the black box under the cowl on the passenger side but it is for specific markets only. Areas of extremely high dust get a mount for a cabin pre-filter. I have a wire cage covering the blower fan so I don't get my fingers mangled up when I stick my hand in there while the fan is moving at a high rate of speed. I wish the manuals would be more specific but until then we are left to discover this on our own and as a collective.

What @Teddis mentions is correct. There is no filter element in that location for the Macan… only a mesh…

A few months ago I decided to buy a pre-filter in Ali express just to try it….

Technically you remove the mesh and install the filter frame with filter, which fits well with the exception that the sensor holder is in the wrong location and prevents the cap from being installed appropriately… compare photo below with the mesh and you’ll see the difference in location.

I decided to change the location of the sensor and installed it, left it for a month, but didn’t see any significant gain… just reduced air flow… so after a month I took it out and went back to the mesh.

Just for reference, my 718 does have a factory pre-filter installed.

I’m calling this confirmed. Unless you live in a specific market the Macan won’t have a pre-filter. It could be the person writing the manual cut and pasted something or wrote the instructions based on some other specifications.

I have about 4K miles to go before I need the 50K mile service. I have a new set of brakes and other bits on order. I also have the necessary parts and fluids for the 50K mile service. When it gets here I’ll get everything done.

I’m pretty comfortable with servicing the car so I’ll give the PDK fluid change a go. Based on the videos I’ve seen doesn’t look too complicated. Messy maybe but not too complicated.

I did my 40K service last September I think. Wasn't that bad. Spark Plugs, filters, PDK.
I did the full PDK service, dropping the pan, and it was time consuming. I also did a video, but my computer didn't have the resources to finish the video, so I upgraded my computer and the video is finished, but doesn't have an introduction yet. I should post my video on dropbox, and let members here preview it.

Dropping the pan to change the internal filter is pretty much along the lines of changing your oil at 5K miles. The little external filter seems to work well and is easy to replace.
