23 Macan S vs GTS

I'm trying to decide between S and GTS. I mostly care about performance, driving experience, and basic creature comfort (all to a degree, not going to track or anything).
Two different builds have about $14K difference (after tax) with similar options (minus what comes with GTS as standard). The only glaring difference between S and GTS that I see is the power but I don't mind getting an ECU tune when it becomes available. Leaning towards S as I'm not sure if it's worth $14K for the difference between S and GTS.

S: The Porsche Code
GTS: The Porsche Code
I have seen many people buy the lower trim and think of the GTS every time he sees one . I have never seen the visa versa . You are already in deep with an S . Deep breaths !!

😄 Actually I couldn't care less about the badge if I can't convince myself that GTS is worth that much more for MY needs and wants. Unfortunately, without driving both, it's almost imposible for me to get an answer... and I do care about not spending extra % if it's not worth it (again for my needs & wants).
Its not the badge . In fact debadge both and the GTS is still a GTS . You also get then brakes . Its simply more car . If I go low I go go the other way to a stripped base . Most here know I dont like the S and never have. Its high priced mediocrity . Its neither the best not the best value .

I'm aware of the difference but is it worth $14K more to get what you listed above?

I honestly think the brake performance difference will not be noticeable at all under normal and even spirited driving once in a while. (Brakes pad selection will make more noticeable difference probably)

PSE is something that I don't care for much otherwise I would've added it to S.

AS is included in both scenarios.

Regarding the resale value, I've heard about this before so I tested it out using KBB. (Standard equipment with 50K miles in very good condition for used)

MSRP
2018 GTS $68,900
2018 S $55,400
Difference: $13,500

Used prices 2022 KBB (private party)
2018 GTS $55,006 (79.8% of original)
2018 S $47,520 (85.8% of original)
Difference: $7,486

If anything, S seems to be better in resale. Now, I am aware of different variables that affect this so I won't get into that but just a quick and dirty research.

Besides that though unless GTS becomes a classic and S doesn't I am not going to base my buying decision on possible resale advantage that may or may not happen.

I'm not nocking your comments and I appreciate you pointing them out as they are all valid. I just. don't see them to be factors that sways my decision.
Resale is not trade in . I have never lost a pile on a GTS trade .

Just curious, have you driven 22/23 S? I've heard from people who drove pre 22 and 22 to have significant changes in both driving dynamics and of course engine (not HP alone but responsiveness, generalnfeelingn, sound, etc.) so want to see how true that is.
I didn't ever say the S was a bad car . Its just not the best and its not cheap . Add to the mix that the options list of anything performance adds up and can't drive like a GTS . I did have an S loaner . I have owned several 911S cars and even one Boxster S . None were the GTS .

I have no problem saving money . I have praised the modest option base car to no end . I do have a problem spending a lot of money and not hitting a perfect 10 . I drove an S only because I was handed one . I would not have asked to drive one otherwise .

That's the only thing we can do for now since we don't know how the new model changes will affect the resale values and how future buyers will perceive the lineup change. The only reason I used the existing numbers and models was because people are saying GTS has better resale values than S without concrete facts. Again, it's not perfect but gives a glimpse into GTS not having "much higher resale values" at least historically.
You did ask us . You just aren't liking what you are hearing in replies . Deal with it .. end the misery.. GTS .

Budget matters too. My 2021 S build was $75k, and a GTS my way would've been around $81, but with somewhere around $10-15k more content. A "better value" for sure. But I bought the S anyway. I can afford most any car, but enough's enough. Most of the dynamic differences are at the margin, where we don't drive very often. As for resale? Forget it. That's not a primary reason to buy a car, its a tiebreaker, and between these two choices the delta would be scant. Compared to, say a Maserati, then yeah.

You know the coin-flip trick, right? Heads is S, tails its GTS. Flip coin, but don't look. Instead, ask yourself: "what am I hoping it is?" Cuts through a lot of noise.
Some people will flip the coin and want the S. They have to justify to them self if they weren’t a glutton . I’ll often hear them say “ I bought the car but not the most expensive one“. There are others who can’t live with the fact that they missed the opportunity when they got this close. Every time he sees or even hears the name of the other car that he wanted it will bother him. If he drives one it’s even worse. $14,000 in Porsche territory is marginal. I’ve seen people go out and add software and exhaust and springs totaling far more to try to get performance out of the car that they had sitting right in front of their face on day one. Although more common with the 911 I see it play out here sometimes with the Macan.

The truth of the matter is if “budget matters“ there are much cheaper cars than Porsche. I buy these things because each one is a little piece of automotive history and my chance to have it.

Every time I have bought one of these cars and I close my eyes and open them with the car in front of me puts a smile on my face.

One thing this thread has done for me. I’ve been on the fence about getting back on the horse waiting a year for a car after the drama of waiting for my 911. I think I’m putting a deposit down on my new GTS next week. I guess I’m back on the configurator. In a year I’ll be selling my 2020 turbo. I’ve been watching videos of the GTS. They really have made this one even better and despite the price increase it’s still a great value in Porchelandia.
