I absolutely agree but this is already turning into the aforementioned GLC 43 thread. It's one thing to bring up the competition, another to say it's "better" when there's not ONE SINGLE REVIEW yet written on the SQ5. And then argue about it ad nauseum without credible info to back up the original baseless claims. Lol you forum "experts" kill me. You all bought your Macans sight unseen a few years ago but no doubt based on professional journalist reviews, yes???. If you and everyone else on this Audi-go-round haven't caught on yet, all you've been reading about is from Audi's PR people, not journalists. It'll be a great SUV as I stated earlier but I'll wait to hear about its greatness from the pros...not this thread.

And i have no clue wth you are referring to in your #2 point a few posts back.."This new Sq5 is NOT the last one". Last one what???.
1) I never read or posted on the GLC thread .

2) I actually sat in the car pre launch as Porsche did send a display car to the Sony Tennis Tournament and ordered one the next day . I did not drive the car .

3) Most guys who order the 918 and 911R or cars like the La Ferrari never get a chance to drive them . Companies like Porsche , Ferrrari, Mclaren , etc have already built a reputation of being able to produce fine cars . Journalists of course add more opinion and with any new car there is always some speculation . This is not just about how it drives but even reliability or resale.

4) I do feel the Audi is "better" than the base Macan but even before I ever knew of this Audi car I have also voiced on this forum that Porsche should not have built this 4 cylinder Macan .

5) I did not say the Audi is better than the Macan S . My distaste for the Macan S never has had anything to do with the car itself . From day one my posts of displeasure with the S have been regarding the long option list and price proportion of those features . I do feel the Audi is aiming at that but so are other competitors . It's just that no one has come close until now.

Oh wow, here we go. Another "GLC43 is better than the Macan" thread. Your comments are absolutly baseless at the moment btw. Not only have you not driven it, NO ONE has. The reviews aren't sparse, they're non-existent because the auto mags HAVEN'T DRIVEN it yet.

And a quick newsflash for you...the Euro NCAP ratings give the Macan a 5 Star rating. Same for the Q5 family. "The Macan is probably safe" would tend to be a bit of an understatement.

Please don't.
Oh wow, here we go. Another "Don't you dare compare the all mighty Macan to anything else" derail response. How about you let people make comments and opinions without getting emotional. No one here is comparing the driving experience. Just price, horsepower, options etc. Calm down.

You're right but first, the competition's gotta look good. At least for me it does. Shallow I know but looks matter ;)

I find both cars attractive but looks are not the central focus of a long term ownership . To me it's merely an ice breaker but if it's a deal breaker for someone then that's how it goes.

Sigh. (sighs matter)

I agree @WHT TGR -- looks matter! One thing that drew me to the (dare I say "sexy"?) Macan was the sleek, sporty look.

I wanted a small SUV (need the utility & unimproved road aspect), but did not want the "boxy" or "mini-van" look some of the "more-cargo-space-suv's" have.

I even considered the coupe series (BMW X4/X6 and GLE/GLC Coupe), but the Macan, for me, has it all in design aesthetics.

Compare these photos. I'm sure the SQ5 is a great machine, but the body style is not my favorite:

I'm sorry but the points I've attempted to make, having all to do with the fact that the SQ5 has not been driven or tested by anyone yet, have nothing to do with any of the above. I've not yet morphed into a Porsche fanboy lol, I bought my GTS based upon solid research, numerous test drives and of course my own standards as to what I need/want in a vehicle. If the new SQ5 had been available or at least reviewed favourably as a Macan fighter, it would have gone to the top of my list. Or maybe in my driveway eventually if its road/track performance was superior. Time will tell. But then, as you say, the next gen Macan will be here in a couple of years and if Porsche loses any ground to the new Audi, it won't be for long.

Oh nooooooooooo. Wait...let me guess...you've cancelled the GLC and ordered a new SQ5??. Lol, I'm not upset and therefore feel no need to calm down. Just stating a few facts...or pointing out the lack of them about the new Audi. As above, time and actual "hands on" reviews will tell.

And of course it's all in the eye of the beerholder. " I'll take another Macan please" :)

The Blue SQ5 picture^ is a '17 not the new '18 coming soon! Not that it matters, just want to be accurate! The red one below is the '18, subtle differences in the design!

When I was returning my A7 at lease end, the Audi team encouraged me to test drive the current SQ5. The specs compared very favorably to the Macan S on paper. Plus they were offering significant discounts.

I had the SQ5 for several hours but unfortunately never bonded with it. It had plenty of power but the higher SUV like driving position, lack of steering feel, forward biased traction, less authoritive shifting, and overall subdued styling only reinforced my intention of ordering a Macan.

I'm willing to bet the new SQ5 will also fall short of the Macan driving experience.

Never judge on specs alone.

Agree totally. Plus the SQ5 only came with the uncomfortable sport seats. I actually preferred the Q5 to SQ5. I didn't see the point of adding more power to the Q5, when it still handles like a truck.

Nope, still getting the GLC43 as it suits what I need right now. Unlike you I've owned 2 Macans and spent thousands of KMs in both. I have behind-the-wheel experience with the GLC43 and made my choice on those and other factors. Both have their pros and cons just like the Audi SQ5 vs Macan. I don't attack other brands because they are competitors, or worse yet, I don't feel so insecure about my decisions that I have to attack other members for their opinions/choices just because they don't match my beliefs/choices, as you have demonstrated on more than one occasion. If you need validation that you made the right decision then there is plenty of threads here to cater to your insecurities otherwise I would recommend staying away from threads like these. It's not good for your blood pressure.

As far as the SQ5 it is an SUV that will offer lots of value. Dollar for dollar it will likely beat the Porsche (value is not Porsches strong point). Overall performance will likely still go to the Macan. If you buy an SQ5 you will enjoy it. If you buy a Macan you will enjoy it. There is no night and day difference between these premium SUVs. There used to be when the Macan was the only true performance SUV in its class but others have closed the gap. I welcome that. I can't wait for the next gen Macan as I know this will force Porsche to step up their game even further. Heck, I'm almost certain I'll own another Macan if the new styling is to my liking until then I will enjoy the GLC43.

Apologies for the incorrect picture -- I googled to find it, and that blue image popped up, but I now see the article was older.

That red image you posted looks much better -- nice update to the design!

I like it too! It appears to be more sculptured with some nice hips, nothing wrong with "nice hips", kinda Porsche like!

Well let's get a couple things straight. I'm NOT attacking the other brands (see, I can use the bold function too) and I am NOT insecure about my purchase (ditto for the bold emphasis here). Lol, in the words of my famous "addicted" friend here (and addicted to what I don't eactly know but I can certainly guess).....calm down!!! And please refrain from lecturing me on night and day differences between what I...or you...consider "performance capabilities". I have my standards, you have yours. Those are about the only things "night and day" in the chats we've had. Sorry but I just can't account for your poor judgement and poor taste as you travel from brand to brand...justifying each along the way. You seem to flip your vehicles like I flip my underwear lol...what happened to your TT and Q3 recently??? Followed up by the Benz?? Lol, you're not just "addicted", maybe trafficking is more apt.

Anyways, we do share one thing in common and it's quite sad. Nationality aside, we've got a few thousand km's between us to maintain some semblance of civility. And one other...Macanforum for me, BenzWorld for you. Buh bye.

Looks like jealousy is another one of your unfortunate traits. I'm sorry that my ability to afford many vehicles per year has you so butt hurt. I really hope you find happiness in your life. Wishing you the best.

I agree @WHT TGR -- looks matter! One thing that drew me to the (dare I say "sexy"?) Macan was the sleek, sporty look.

Just a few comments on looks ---

1) There are many very beautiful cars which I would not want to buy . Most recently the 718 as long as we are Porsche focused in discussion. I find the car gorgeous looking . The convertible Boxster is the best looking convertible in Porsches line up . Yet I won't buy the car . There are many other examples along these lines.

2) There are cars which are not attractive which i would buy . For example if someone asked me to name a 20K priced economy car which has safety, technology , resale , and good gas mileage hands down it would be the Honda Civic but it truly is an odd looking car .

Now i understand that there are some cars where either its looks or the combination of how it looks along with price becomes a deal breaker .

If the Sq5 or even the Macan were viewed as a deal breaker by someone I would not try and convince him or her otherwise . I would suggest not to buy it .

I love the Macan looks but i feel the newest Sq5 is very nice too .
