I ordered my MY18 GTS through Porsche Center Oakville as well, got 2% plus mats, and they will do an "accommodation trade" on my old car to save the taxes. I placed my order March 31 to hit month end and quarter end when sales people may be more hungry to make their targets, but with record sales numbers every month, it seems to make no difference. My delivery date has been set as September 22 - a 6 month wait!:crying:

Since you are in Alberta and buying in Ontario, as far as the taxes are concerned, I believe you can either get a 10 day temporary plate and pay the Alberta taxes when you license it there or have it shipped to Alberta.

On an $80 K car, each 1% is equal to $800 - which is probably close to what it would cost you to ship the car. I would suggest you take all factors into consideration: sale price, taxes, shipping cost, delivery time frame, relationship with servicing dealer, etc. In the final analysis, it will be a trade-off who you buy the car from, but remember, it is a Porsche Macan, you will be smiling from ear to ear every time you even look at it. :D

Hi Leeski!

May I ask who your dealer is in Langley? Is he/she nice/knowledgeable/honest etc...?
I'm planning to pull the trigger on a 2018 Macan S soon! In my "dream" I was hoping for a 4-5% discount... but sounds like most members are saying that a new 2018 will not give that much discount - if any...

Hi spinelli, if we are talking PORSCHE Langley BC. I bought my car there from Daniel Chen. He's good check him out. They are very strict on not giving any discounts tho. I was able to negotiate the fees on top of the car price. Good luck! FYI I have a macan gts.

I need to jump in here as there seems to be a little mis-information on the trade in value. Dealers will pay you a wholesale value for your trade, depends on car, it could be $10,000 less than market value for that model. The reason is that they need to sell that vehicle and still make a profit, plus there is a need to build a cushion for potential repairs (brakes, windshield, tires, oil change, etc....). So if you break it down, the dealer will pay on average $3,000 for repairs, make approx $2500-$3000 in profit and will list a little higher because no one ever pays asking price for a car. Depends on the manufacturer too, some may even add a Certified Warranty which costs the dealership $2000.

@e85sbm I don't think there is any mis-information here. We all know that the dealer will pay the wholesale price. In most cases there is a cost associated with getting a trade in ready for the market.
Now lets talk about my situation, my car is a 2014 335 which is still under factory warranty. So if there are any major repairs that will be covered under the BMW warranty. I can tell you this here is nothing need to be done on this car according to BMW.
Windshield is brand new. – No chips.
Tires, brand new summer tires. The new shoes went on the car about 6 weeks ago.
So just to sum it up there is nothing needs to be done on this car.
Now I have a funny feeling that you may be associated with Calgary Porsche Centre. The reason I say this is every single reason you listed here are the same reasons my SA told me when we were discussing about the trade. Here is something very interesting , Calgary BMW has a assigned trade in Value of 35K for the car and Calgary Porsche Centre is offering me 32K for the same car. What makes it more interesting is BMW is willing to negotiate the price on the new car (In the past I used to get 10% off from them , this time they are at 7% off on a factory order for a M3). In contrast Calgary Porsche is telling me that there is no negotiation on the price.
I have taken into consideration that the dealer need to make money on the car. However 32K is a low-ball offer IMO.

I am in no way associated with Porsche Centre Calgary, however, I was formerly at Calgary BMW and am blown away that they would be giving 7% off on a factory ordered M3, especially when the M3 is not typically a discounted vehicle and there is only an 8% markup (unless there is a delivery credit being used)....but a dealer cannot carry forward delivery credits on factory orders.

If you don't agree with the fact that the dealer is a business and is not a charity, then don't complain about the fact they are doing what is best for them. Especially with a GT model, they are VERY difficult to sell. Just sell it privately if you don't want to accept the implied market value and tax credit from the dealer, or just shop around dealers and sell it to the highest bidder (Country Hills Toyota usually pays up fr trades).

@e85sbm Thanks for your feedback on this.
Yes I am trying to sell the car privately.

there is absolutely no way bmw dealer margin is 8% at all. I have friends who bought at year end clearance and have gotten nearly 8.5% off and no dealer admin fee and no other bogus fees, this is just on the dealer side, of course.

I know it is near 10% dealer margin, not even counting any factory to dealer sales figures target credit/incentive that is not pass onto the buying public.

I know. I wasn't even going to talk to him about that.
As you mentioned the dealers will get vendor kick back and whole lot more.

Funny that you KNOW the margin is 10%. Good luck with your situation

If you are looking for a big discount, GM is having a 20% off sale and Dodge is doing something similar with 25% off.

For me, I have owned many bmws in my lifetime, ranging from 3/5/7/M cars. I have never gotten a 10% dealer side discount at all (I know it will not happen). As typical, I am also getting around 6-7% dealer side discount on average. btw, Mercedes dealer margin is just slightly over 11%. Audi is also near 10%. Lexus is likely in the 12%. Porsche is around 15% (so my SA told me)

Those GM & Ford employee pricing, etc type of discount does not come out from the dealer margin at all. They may contribute to some degree to this kind of promotion as either $ or tiny % of their margin. As for BMW discount, I know dealer side discount will likely be restricted to a typical 6-7% off and that would be applicable for most part of the year. However, as I was saying, if the dealer has plenty of year end stocks in their inventories and the new model year cars are already in the showroom, the dealer is likely willing to let the car go with very minimal margin on them. Would they sell at a loss ? That would depends on how far into the next new model year the unsold cars are still sitting in the lot. For example, if bmw canada offers a $20,000 factory credit for a 6 or 7 series in August, the dealer is likely will register the car and pocket the $20,000 right now and with this kind of car typical selling for $150,000 range, the dealer side margin would certainly be in the $14,000 - $15,000 range, therefore, for this car, dealer has about $35,000 room to play with before selling it at a loss.
