Welcome

Buying a new or used Porsche can be both exciting and a bit scary. Let’s see if we can help some. Whether you have owned other Porsches in the past or the Macan is your first venture into the brand, welcome to the Macan world. The following, to the best of my knowledge, is accurate. If something is wrong, we'll fix it.

Here are the rules of the forum.

As cliché as it may sound, it’s the people that make a virtual community. People come, people go. Some only come to ask a question or two, or maybe complain, then leave. Others hang around, even if they don’t own a Macan. Everyone is welcome. There are long time, and very knowledgeable members here willing to help. Just ask your question. We only ask that BEFORE you create a new thread with your query, check to ensure a thread doesn’t already exist covering that topic. It's been almost six years since the launch of the Macan, just about every question you might have has already been asked. You probably are not the first to wonder about something. Please SEARCH for an answer before asking and , if you cannot find an answer, just add your question to an existing thread. We have many stickies. Do not start multiple threads on the same subject and please post in the correct subforum. Everything does NOT go in the General Discussion area. That’s for subjects that do not fit in a specific subforum. Most sub-forums are self-evident (e.g. post pictures in the picture subforum, videos in the video subforum, etc.).

Some people might think of Porsche as the company of yore, racing at Le Mans, the 911, etc. Today, Porsche is a brand, one of many, of VW AG. Dr.-Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, AKA PAG is not Porsche, from 15 years ago. The PAG of 2006 was renamed Porsche SE as a holding company. The family owns 100% of the voting stock. Porsche SE owns 53.1% of the ordinary stock of VW AG. VW AG owns the new PAG, along with the brands VW, Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Scania, MAN, and Ducati. If you want to see their future direction, their performance and direction are in their annual reports online for both Porsche AG, VW AG, and Porsche SE.

If you are new to the brand, forget about what you know in the past. Trying to compare past life experience with Japanese, American, or even other German cars won’t help much. For the Japanese cars, the very layout of how controls work is the opposite of what you are used to. Comparing what you owned in the past will get you nothing but frustration. Just because your “xyz vehicle did such and such” does not mean anything here. Get used to the words Porsche Tax. Pricing of new cars is based on a bespoke pricing strategy. In other words, you build the car YOU want. Your idea of what is important to you might not be what is important to others. For example, just because Car A has an option "free" means nothing in this world.

The 95B, the current generation, is the first generation in its third production cycle. Discussion on the next generation Macan, the second generation Macan, has been announced to be electric and here is this discussion. To understand what is going on, a good place to start would be to read Reducing CO2 emissions from passenger cars and then figure out the 2021 VAG fines if the cars are not electric. Remember, Porsche is just one brand, with a tiny niche number of vehicles sold, in relation to the massive numbers of cars sold by VW AG.
