The lot where my house sits borders on a bypass. Every day I hear the trucks and cars passing. I've lived here for 20+ years so I have grown accustomed to the noise. However, in the last few years as manufacturers move from V-8s, more and more turbo charged 4's are on the road. A turbo charged 4 in an inexpensive car doesn't sound very good.

That turbo can make a distinctive (and annoying) sound when you are on and off the gas. You can hear it when someone doesn't have a steady throttle foot. Waaaa . . . waaaa . . . waaaa . . . waaaa. The noise is so aggravating. I wish that these people would learn how to drive. :|

Rant over. Thanks. :D

My daughter is on and off the gas pedal constantly, even on the freeway. Hard to imagine that could be good for the powertrain, especially for the clutches is in the transmission.

Actually turbos have a whoosh sound . It's the sound of the turbo spool, Tuners even make a blow off valve to amplify it if desired.
